Happy Friday Everyone! Let me know some of your favorite Layout time saving tips in the comments below! :)
Hi, Have you ever encountered the frustrating and still seemingly unresolved layout issue where when you export your completed and templated layout to an image (png or jpg) all the text from the dims you laid or other text labels you included all disappear on the exported image (still showing correct on preview and in layout)? I have this problem with Sketchup pro 2018, 2020 and 2021, each program run fine previously, firstly sketchup 2018 would start to bugout when first launching and lock up my system so and when it did work it would loose data in layout, both 2020 and 2021 work fine until you get to layout, both versions of layout result in missing text in all exports apart from .pdf's. No one as yet seems to have found any solution that I can find, all this didn't start occurring until Microsoft automatically sent down a recent update at the end of July 2021 with a c++ visual runtime update and I mention this because I have changed nothing when it comes to graphics setting or anything OS settings wise, the only other change my system has has is the installation of Oculus software and drivers. I have lost a ton of work because of this and when I've had to create manually has taken double the time to create. here's my specs: Windows 10, Asus ROG STRIX, i7-8750H , 16GB Ram, 500GB SSD, 1TB HDD, Nvidia GTX1060 -Latest Nvidia studio drivers (Ill add that ive also found that Twinmotion crashes after launching when using to edit or create when Oculus device is all plugged in, when unplugging all the USB's and HDMI for the oculus Twinmotion works normally)( not sure if the layout errors have anything to do with TM & Oculus's issues). Thanks for your time and content.
Man, your the best!! You make everything so easy to follow, and I'm still recovering from a brain hemorrhagic stroke. Thank you for these videos, they are actually helping my brain heal more quickly. You are a great instructor and speaker!
The clipping plane for creating interior elevations was absolute magic. Thanks for that.
Awesome - glad it was helpful!

Awesome - glad it helped! :)
Thank you. Very good, I am learning a lot.
Awesome - glad you're finding it helpful!
1. Set up different views
- Make sure they're not heavy resource-wise
2. Use parallel projection and camera to view sections
3. Use arrowkeys instead of click and drag to manage your viewports
4. Use crosshair
5. Place repeating elements on a plan within a shared layer
6.
Super,thankyou.
Awesome - glad you liked it!
Hey I just loved all that! Still too much of a learner to give you tips!
Lol - no worries - glad you found the video helpful! :)
Can you please show us some tips on how can we make the LayOut work faster? Mine personally works really slow.
awesome
:)
Hi Justin! My favourite tip I invented is to create axes in Sketchup model, not in Layout. It's sooo simple and comfortable to use, please let me know if you try it ;)
Great video, thx a lot!
Interesting - what do you use these axes for? Generally speaking I just turn the axes off in the SketchUp model because I don't want them showing up in my Layout document at all. Thanks for the reply!
I use Axes a bunch too. I hotkeyd them to shift+a / ctrl+shift+a to show/hide or set the Axes. For houses I often place the model axis outside corner of the wall framing at top of first floor subfloor height. Then also new axes in most components at the best point for snapping them to the rest of the model. Especially on sloped components, so in component edit you can edit the sloped thing (like roof framing) as if it were flat. I think the more you group your geometry as components the more you can gain by taking a second to place an axes, just like setting working scenes like you pointed out in this video. Takes a minute to get the mindset for when they will be useful but I've found I rely on it now.
Hello Justin and thanks for your very useful tutorial. One question I have with Layout. Sometime, the text and cotation don't show under the Sketchup model and sometimes it shows. I'm not finding why and how to make it show all the times. Could you help me with this? thanks
Nice
Thanks!
Hi
I have an issue I can’t figure out. I have concrete in my sketchup but when it comes to layout on vector removes the background but then I loose the concrete looking texture in layout. Can I remove the grey background in hybrid or raster
Thanks for your help
As a general rule, you use a raster image as the background, then stack any linework you want on top with a vector viewport. You can set your style to have a white background instead of gray, but I don't believe a raster viewport is going to allow transparency...
Is there a way to make the layout engine faster, it takes so much time if my model have high poly, changing scales, scenes in layout takes too much time for me
Sir can you please do a video on how to add footprints on the ground for more realistic render results. Please
Interesting - why are you adding footprints?
@@Thesketchupessentials for more realism instead of clean smooth flat surface.. You should try it on snow..
I have render sketch up models finel background hdri remove when I have save view only black background??
Hey, great stuff!
I'm having a problem with Layout and my titleblock template: when exporting to pdf, it sends out 3 pages on which parts of the titleblock show up on the 2nd and 3rd page. Can this be flattened into 1 page?. I can't send out a file that should be on 1 page. Help. Thanks, Jurgis
