  • In Europe, food manufacturers have signed up to ‘responsibility pledges’, promising no added sugar, preservatives, artificial colors or flavors and not to target children. So why are they using tactics banned in the West in the developing world? There, they have created ultra low cost products with higher levels of salt, sugar and saturated fats. Filmed in Brazil, India and France, we investigate the new tactics of brands like Coca-Cola, McDonald’s and Domino’s Pizza. -

On top of that, cooking real food and not buying chips, cookies, and snack foods is also budget friendly. I know no one in America wants to believe that home cooking is cheaper than eating out, but it’s true. A party bag of Doritos is more expensive than a pound of lean chicken breast. The chicken can be used to make a full meal for four people that is nourishing in filling; whereas, the bag of Doritos isn’t going to satisfy hunger and will just make you fat.

    • @aboutthat77

On the front that sounds like the right solution but, sadly the reality if that change was made would be minimal. For example we know for fact that smoking is bad, alcohol is a poison and we knowingly still consume it. It is a very tough challenge to come up with a broad solution approach. It seems the main approach is to customise the approach for the individual where it would appeal or properly incentivise a person to make those changes to their nutrition.

I like that this documentary focuses on placing the blame on big corporations, I've seen so many attempt to place the blame on consumers for being unhealthy, when usually they are chemically hooked on these products, and probably haven't been educated and.. its really not their fault usually?
corporations are so shady in playing stupid like they've never heard of someone under the age of 12 touching their products even when directly asked. They should be held completely responsible for shoving their brands down everyone's throats and expecting people to simultaneously magically be healthy. These brands know fully well how bad their products are for you but never want to back down or change the way they are because they're lining their fat pockets and riding their yacht, and just want to shoo any criticism down the drain.

There are 4 steps in marketing which we call AIDA.
Awareness - People knowing the brand
Interest - People being responsive towards the brand or having a thought about the brand
Desire - to buy the product
    Action - buying the product.
Being aware is only the first step, people need more information to buy a product which the marketing teams provide to increase the engagement between the product and the users. So, people need to be more cautious when dealing with brands and products they buy
People usually think that color is inconsequential, however, color and shapes are commonly associated with brands and they are easy to remember. By reinforcing colour through apps, the company is engaging with the customers on a level which the customer doesn't understand.

My teacher in elementary school (1980s America) taught us proper nutrition. She told us what was good to eat and what not to eat. How did she communicate it to us 3rd graders?
“Look at me! I’m 40, fat as an elephant, and divorced. I eat the worst stuff and that’s why my husband left me. Boys, do you want to end up with someone like me? Girls, do you want to end up Like me? You all better eat well and take care of yourselves no matter what.”
That sticks in our head to this very day.

    there are choices.
those cities with McDonalds without exception have markets and local restaurants too.
of course some veggies are grown in a questionable way, and often some local foods are as quick to kill you than any.
but there are choices, and those choices in the consumer's hand.
a quote for context, bcos that context is what most of these documentaties often missing:
"At Greek restaurants, the researchers found that a Greek salad has 960 calories and Moussaka had 1,440 calories. At Indian restaurants, Lamb Vindaloo had 1,170 calories and Chicken Tikka Masala had 1,430 calories. At Vietnamese restaurants, Beef Pho had 940 calories and Lemongrass Chicken had 1,270 calories. At Thai restaurants, Drunken Noodles with Chicken had 1,120 calories and Chicken Pad Thai had 1,480 calories. At Italian restaurants, Fettuccine Alfredo, which in 1994 the Center for Science in the Public Interest famously called a “heart attack on a plate,” had 2,270 calories."
1 bigmac = 563 calories. by no mean little. by no mean exceptionally large vs the above examples...
    everything with moderation?

Although fast food chains are finding more subtle ways and loopholes to earn more cash, the ultimate responsibility falls on the consumers themselves. It's up to the parents to provide healthy home-cooked meal to their kids, while instructing that fast foods should be considered special treats only available once a week or two.
That doesn't mean we should put all the blame to parents that are poor, both of them having work to make the ends meet, living in a food desert district, etc. But at least they have to be aware of the consequences of resorting to fast food.

As long as you have functioning kidneys, salt is not a problem and in fact, protects against heart disease. Always salt to taste and get at least 3-5 g/day. 24:27 It's not the saturated fat and salt that's harmful. It's the carbohydrates and toxic unsaturated seed oils! "Regular", white, refined salt IS bad for you. Healthy salt is any UNREFINED salt! Sea salt, Himalayan pink salt, those are the healthy choices. You can even buy USDA Certified Organic Himalayan Pink Salt on Amazon, which guarantees it is non-irradiated (essentially unpasteurized) and non-GMO! It also contains more than 84 trace minerals and none of the additives or aluminum compounds found in refined ("regular, white") table salt.

Asian here too. In the old days there is no food on demand. We had to work hard for our food. No cheap carbohydrates or plant oils. We eat what we plant or animals we raise and fry in animal fat. Sweets was a treat not a daily foods. There was no problem.

Too easy to blame the Jews. Coca-Cola co-operated with the Nazi regime during 30's. All the business started in 1929 due to the recession in USA saying "no never again depression".
