- In Gatwick officers take no chances with the suspicious traveller, sniffer dogs are put to the test in the war against drugs. And at least one man appreciates the work done by the border agents on the front line.
In Gatwick and Bristol Airports in England customs agents check baggage and travelers to uphold allowances and prevent illicit activity and substances from entering the UK.

Those are the happiest and luckiest doggies! I trained service animals for the handicapped, but I knew canine officers and saw their training methods. It's fascinating, and they do it all for their reward of a few minutes of play time with their person. Yay!

Aren't these officers checking for drugs supposed to be wearing a special protective masks to protect themselves from mistakenly sniffing in the harmful drugs.

@ dear What they don't tell you is that the Police Drug sniffing dogs are only good for one drug find before the dog has to take a break to get the drug smell out of its nose before they can sniff out drugs again
Happened to me driving a motorhome from Turkey into Bulgaria, apparently a popular drugs route. The vehicle was X-rayed in a huge hangar, customs officials then asked me "you have narcotics?" I was getting worried in case something had or was about to be planted. Then the sniffer dogs came out, paid special attention to beneath a rear bench seat in which I had stored several sacks of dog food and treats! Must have looked like sacks of drugs on the X-ray images. We were travelling with our 3 mini poodles. Quite amusing now looking back but I was relieved to be waved on my way.
They are trained to sniff out drugs not food products dog treats whatver … so they wouldn’t sniff that out 😂they have dogs that sniff out food and bombs and cash .. each dog does dif things 👍

Thats why you aiming big my friend like really Big i have two cousins from Montenegro which went down in Philadelphia USA. They were officers on the Cargo ship which carried 20T of coke it was one of the biggest bust in US history they’ve got 6 years for that in US prison. Maybe because the ship was heading to Europe.

These last two women should have been given the benefit of the doubt. You can buy USA cigarettes in the UK (Marlboro) so it isn't beyond the realms of fantasy that Russian cigarettes can be bought in Lithuania.

Cocaine can be mixed into plastic and later be extracted. Presumably, a similar process can be used for a nylon type plastic which could be used to make textiles.

I thought the exact same thing. I guess it sometimes takes quite a while for the clearance to come through from Royal Mail and it doesn't make sense to have the dog wait around while that happens. They do seem to wait on confirmation when it comes to checking passangers and lorries though as they can confirm that a lot quicker.

@@islanddweller3674 First of all, these are low level employees. They work under a manager so if they make mistakes, these mistakes can be caught and corrected. There is no expectation they will get everything right.
Second, there was another episode of this exact same show where it was explained that after they have confirmed the existence of contraband, they hide the contraband again, let the dog sniff for it, and then reward them.

At the time (2008-10) was 2 cartons / sleeves (200 cigarettes) per adult from outside the EU and 16 cartons / sleeves (3200 cigarettes*) per adult with the proper receipts that shows tax payment abroad, from inside the EU. Post-Brexit UK just went into the non-EU amounts.

I would give no details if I was stopped. I wouldn't carry contraband anyway. Cash has traces of most drugs anyway. So, if you've touched cash and then your luggage, well.... They can't do much other than harass you.
