    What a wonderful show--packed with so much helpful information! Especially useful to me was the segment about whether to be concerned about cholesterol over 150 when eating a healthy, oil-free, plant-exclusive diet. It's comforting to know that Mary McDougall is not at all concerned about having cholesterol over 150. Thank you soooooo much, Chef AJ, Dr. McDougall, and Mary McDougall!

    Dr. McDougall, you're a hero of so many people. You have nothing to regret. Even if all the thousands you have saved are still eating one turkey a year, they are far more significant to animal welfare and the planet than the religiously active vegans who alienate thousands of people a year by antagonism. They should be ashamed - not you!

    A good topic for Dr.McDougall to speak on is how numbers prevail over real results in the global healthcare system. He touched on it a bit here: a low cholesterol, which can be done with statins, won't keep you from suffering the effects of your bad habits.
    I would structure such a lecture like this: provide examples of what a person can do (for example eat fat), while sustaining the numbers on a "normal" level (by taking insulin or statins etc.); what that person can suffer from while taking or not taking these drugs; and what that person could do instead (eat starch) to get better; plus which numbers may still be "bad" in spite of the health being good.

    Just fyi the 80-10-10 diet, (See the book by Dr Doug Graham) is raw food and is low 10% fat. They have large volumes of whole fruit for the starch. Banana for example and in season local fruits and vegetables. So it's really good especially if you live where there are lots of fruit and vegetables grown in your area. I did this for two months and I was not hungry if you follow it and consume the volume and specific fruits and veggies you're supposed to, it works fine.
    I love Dr MacDougall. And the starch solution is wonderful. In my opinion there's no reason for the disparaging of raw vegans.

      He's not disparaging raw vegans, he's merely saying nobody lasts on a
      fruit & veg diet long term!

    • @nettierose4915
      @nettierose4915 2 года назад +8

      I have not listened to the show yet. I just scanned the comments before listening and intend to listen tomorrow.
      However, here is my take on a raw food diet. Produce is quite expensive compared to starches. So unless a person has money and/or a huge garden with lots of fruit trees and lives in a tropical climate, this kind of diet would not be possible for many people. It also makes a person even more outside the mainstream than a cooked vegan diet and as social animals, this is something that would be hard for many people. Overall, I feel that is difficult to maintain and very few people can maintain it long term.
      On a personal note, I ate a raw food diet myself for 4 years. (It was the high fat kind of raw diet, which I now think is not healthy. ) I don’t know how I managed to last that long! I guess I managed because I participated in a local raw community and I knew a couple who I paid to make me raw meals occasionally. And I had access to a raw restaurant. I went to the Portland. Raw Food Festival for several years which was happening at the time. So I somehow managed to last that long. However, just about everyone I knew who was raw is no longer raw. There is only one person who lasted for a long time but I have not been in touch with her for years so don’t know what she eats now. Sadly, most of those people are not vegan anymore either. I was vegan long before I got into raw and am committed to animals, but most were just trying raw for health reasons and then went back to eating animals.
      I am vegan for life. ( I am very passionate about not harming animals.) I have been vegetarian for more than 40 years and vegan for more than 30 years. But I could never maintain a raw diet for that long.
      I now eat an oil free starch solution diet and even eating what most people would consider to be a restrictive diet, the starch solution is so much easier for me than a raw food diet. I can easily maintain it for the rest of my life.
      Overall, I think that raw is too difficult, too expensive for many people, and not practical. And more animals will be harmed because few people will even try it, let alone do it for the rest of their lives.

    • @marleri
      @marleri 2 года назад +2

      @@CHEFAJ I love dr graham's approach. I did see him on your channel. Dr Graham's approach made my typically starch solution diet more flexible because if I was on the road I knew I could just eat a bunch of bananas for breakfast, feel full, and not worry about not being able to cook oatmeal. Or I can eat a ton of grape tomatoes and some pears or blueberry and carrots and a box of salad greens for lunch and not worry about not being able to find a place to cook a potato on a road trip (tho I have done that! I have road tripped with plain gold potatoes and microwaved them, and lived to tell the tale!). Dr Graham's advice is also very in line with people who are volume-eaters and have success with starch solution. Most people fail because they don't eat enough volume. 80-10-10 is about Simplicity and abundance. I don't own a dehydrator lol. When I did 80-10-10, I ate giant salads and people, it was easy to socialize and eat my salad and it was easy to get a ton of in season fruit from the farmers market or grocery and it wasn't super expensive. Just like w.f.p.b sos free, starch solution is easy and can be done inexpensively on a budget. So what I am saying is the raw vegan approach just made me more resilient and committed to a w.f.p.b. lifestyle. (And the reason I wrote the comment here is the always brilliant Dr McDougall is incorrect about a raw diet needing to be high fat.) ☮️🥦

    • @marleri
      @marleri 2 года назад +1

      @@jgrysiak6566 and I'm not trying to start anything but that's not true. Lots of raw vegans are long term raw vegans. It helps to read 80-10-10 and follow it. Otherwise you don't eat enough volume to sustain.
