Economic Empowerment of Women through Forest Solutions: A women led low carbon
resilient building initiative
Women in rural areas of Nepal depend on forest and agriculture for their livelihood. Despite such dependency and their hard work, the aspect of financial dependency remains a persistent issue. Noting such challenge, ForestAction Nepal and its partner organizations with the support of International Development Research Center (IDRC) launched an action research program titled "Economic Empowerment of Women through Forest Solutions" where the women of Nawalparasi and Shindhupalchowk have begun to perceive a sense of financial empowerment through forest-based enterprises. The program aims to promote economic empowerment among women through low-carbon enterprises based on forest resources, enabling them to withstand challenges posed by climate change and pandemics like COVID-19. It also seeks to establish evidence-based knowledge by examining various aspects of gender relations, social power dynamics, and policy implementation at both national and international levels.
