That is not a festival, it is a Jimmy Buffett concert! It’s always like this. I adore beach music and Jimmy is the epitome of the sound. He is stellar at combining reggae, zydeco, and country into his own unique and very distinctive blend of beach music.
Omg thank you for saying that!! I was teased SO HORRIBLY when I was in 7th grade, that's when I found Jimmy. . .I'll be 40 in April and I'll be karaoking pirate looks at 40!! But yeah, that's just Jimmy Buffet!!! I love it!
I grew up on jimmy Buffet they played him on the local country station. My step kids dad would take them to to Jimmy Buffett concert when he would come to Cincinnati. He will be missed.
He’s actually older than he looks. He’s been doing this for a long time. But you’re right about having a connection with his audience. There are very few musicians in the world who have a closer connection. His friends are completely insane. I don’t mean that in a bad way, just totally loyal. He’s one of the most successful musicians in history.
I’ve seen Jimmy 22 times, mostly in Cincinnati at Riverbend. This is how all the shows are. Also, a tip of the hat to the lovely and talented Ms Nadirah Shakoor! The whole Coral Reefer band are all incredible. Rest in Paradise Jimmy
I've been one of Jimmy's faithful "Parrotheads" since 1977 when "Margaitaville" was a huge hit. How many performers can take one song like that and turn it into not only a musical career that has lasted decades, but also into an empire that is worth hundreds of millions of dollars with Margaritaville Resorts, casinos, restaurants, retirement communities, footwear, bicycles, clothing...and the list goes on. Don't worry about what time it is now, because it's "5 o'Clock Somewhere" !
Makes me cry hearing this song now that he has passed on. Jimmy was a true legend, poet, artist and good person. RIP dear Jimmy. You might have gone to heaven, but we have your music and books to last forever.
There will never be another performer quite like Jimmy Buffett. He is a national treasure in my opinion ❤️. Rest easy Jimmy... You are missed already... Cheers! 🦜🏴☠️
"A Pirate Looks At 40" is another great tune. Ditto, this is a JB Concert - which is usually a beach party, also. Listen to his "God's Own Drunk" from the '74 album Living and Dying In 3/4 Time, it's a hoot!
The crowd is a Jimmy Buffet concert. The fans pour into the parking lots long before the concert and tailgates. Lots of bbq, hot dogs, burgers and of course margaritas. My sister goes to at least 2 of his concerts a year. One on the east coast and one west of the Mississippi somewhere.
A Jimmy Buffett concert is unlike any other. I've seen him 4 times; every show is unique and not one bad performance. We took our daughter to see him when she was just 18 months old. She was born a night owl, but after that concert, she fell asleep in her car seat, we drove 100 miles home, got her out of the car and put her in bed where she slept 12 hours. We bought a videotape filmed in a Florida marina where the audience was floating around the stage on innertubes. She would get out her pool float and a juice box and fall asleep watching it. Best babysitter we ever had!
Jimmy is the hardest working beach bum in the world, b4 covid he was doing about 300 shows a year, ever since the 70's, and I'm sure he'll reach that again now. It isn't luck when you work that hard. He hasn't hard a real hit in about 40 years, but always finishes as one of the top live artists, he gives to his fans, and they love him back. Come Monday is another of his better known songs.
Thanks for a great reaction to my suggestion. A couple of other things about Jimmy Buffet. He wrote a song called Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays which is about what days he works. If you check out his schedule, he has concerts on those days only. 15 years ago, my 25-year-old son who was in Metal, went with me to a concert. He was overwhelmed and said it was the best concert he had ever been to. My response was "Us old folks know how to party, son". From then on, he was a Parrot head for life.
It's not a festival, and if it is then it is no different than the normal Buffet concert experience. At my first Jimmy Buffet concert, my cousin turned to me and said, "this is how religions get started." People show up and start partying at 9am when the concert starts at 5pm. It's a true experience that I would recommend to anyone.
One of the most successful singer/songwriters of all time. Great tunes, loyal fans, never out-of-style! Any musician should consider theirselves blessed to have 10% of his success.
Jimmy always did the island music so the drums and all of that going on that brings up Caribbean sounds and beach bum lifestyle. You can see him singing i Hawaii or somewhere and putting a big ole coconut drink in your hand when you go listen to his music. I don't think he's hurting for anything, also a good marketing and smart businessman. Have to do Margaritaville if you haven't done that one yet, that put him on the map.
It's not a festival, my Brother. It's a typical Jimmy Buffet concert which would be a festival for any other performer. As someone who loves the ocean and being on the water, this is one of my favorite songs.
His grandfather was a sailing ship Captain. He wrote a beautiful song for his grandfather called The Captain and the Kid. I net him while working with Delta. He treated me like I was his best friend. I will always remember him and treasure his influence on my life
People carry palm trees into his concerts Older days carted kegs where bottle and cans were banned. The audience had enough Margaritas in Thermos bottle to get London drunk. His concerts are a party a hell of a party
Thanks for doing Jimmy Buffett. My favorite thing about him is he used his influence to start " Save The Manatee Club", got the then Gov, and the state of Fl involed and there is SOME help for these great gentle mammals. Please do" Wasted away again in Margaritaville" and" Cheeseburger in Paradise". Thanks from Flordia..
Jimmy is absolutely living the dream. But he's so happy to make it a party and welcome all comers, that it's pretty much impossible to be envious of him. You can only appreciate it, and say "god bless the man".
I believe this performance was at the Jazz and Heritage Festival in New Orleans. US Hwy 90 runs along the coast, as he mentioned Destin, FL through Lafayette, LA (and beyond). New Orleans is also on that route (my LA hometown, too). He was born on the MS Gulf coast, and I'm sure he played many venues along Hwy 90 in his early career. He's a treasure who has never lost sight of his roots. Harri, you can't go wrong with Jimmy. My fav is Come Monday.
Jimmy Buffett is always a fun concert! I believe calling fans Parrotheads originated here in Cincinnati. Everyone dressing in their tropical clothes, creating wild “tropical” hats - I made a few. In the mid/late 80’s, he easily sold out concerts and added shows. A couple of years, he sold out 5 nights at a time. He was just here last month performing again a sold out show. Here lately, the day of the concert has become an all day party. Crowds start arriving in the morning, hanging out, grilling, drinking and a good time was had by all. More Jimmy Buffett please!!
Cincinnati has some of the most fanatical Buffet fans. Years ago when he recorded a live album he recorded it at Riverbend. A few years ago when he lightened his tour schedule he still always played multiple shows in Cincy. Not sure why he got so big there but my theory is because Cincinnati is mentioned in the song "Fins".
I saw Jimmy in the 70’s at the Amphitheater in LA. They ran out of beer. That’s his crowd. Such a good time. React to Margaritaville. There are so many great songs
Harri, the Parrothead! I've enjoyed his music for over 50 years ... like most of my generation and those that came before me. "He Went to Paris", "My African Friend", "One Particular Harbour", and "Clichés" are but a few of his songs that hold special meanings in my life. FINS UP!
Jimmy Buffett is a singer-songwriter, musician & actor. His songs have such a laid back island feel to them. I had a couple of his albums. He had a lot of hits especially in the 70's-80's such as "Fins”, “He Went To Paris”, “Cheeseburger In Paradise”, “A Pirate Looks At Forty”, “One Particular Harbor”, "Come Monday", “Changes In Latitudes, Changes In Attitudes”, “Volcano”, “Boat Drinks”, “Pencil Thin Mustache” etc.
I saw this man in the mid-90's, and it ranks right up there with some of the best concerts I've seen in my life, and believe me, I've seen some doozies. Just a total good time...great vibes from the music, the crowd, and in my case, the beautiful venue of the Gorge Amphitheater in George, Washington. RIP, Jimmy. You were awesome.
I had been meaning to get back to a Buffett concert for a long time. Turns out it was too long. Thank you, Jimmy, for all the good times. Life was never meant to last, you've just got to remember to live it like a song. I know you're somewhere on the ocean now, RIP, my captain.
It was so fun watching your initial reaction!❤ This was and continued to be the feeling he evoked in me since I heard his first hit, Come Monday, back in the 70’s. He was our beloved Pied Piper, and I miss him beyond what words can say.💔💔💔🫧☝🏾
Buffett is a lifestyle. I’ve seen him nearly every year since 1988. Used to show up to the concert at 10 am - the parking lot was always just as crazy as the show. Great artist. Cool vibes. Insanely loyal fan base. Thanks for giving Jimmy a listen!
Jimmy Buffett is an amazing artist and story teller. Please check out some more of his songs! Pick any one at random and you can't go wrong! Always good to put a smile on your face!
Being a sailor myself, in a military and civilian capacity, I think it’s an unwritten law that you have to have some JB music on your boat, I definitely represented on my little Hunter 340. I have been to many JB concerts, and have listened to his music as long as I can remember it being around, and it’s always a good time!
First let's mention what an amazing band Jimmy had. Then it is real simple, he brought joy, he had a smile that warmed you up from the inside out. He was your friend even if you never met him, and if you were a fan he may already know you if you had posted on a website and mentioned it upon meeting him. That would be me. Then I started dressing up as a well known persona at shows because it made people happy and I just wanted to spread that feeling that he did. I was asked to go talk with kids by his staff in this persona and enjoyed that I could bring some magical expierence to a child. I happened to catch him on my way to my hotel in Paris and told him I was the (fictional character) that went to the shows. He said, "I know" and just smiled and said "Don't stop." Mind you my outfit involved a mask. He knew some of his fans more than they may ever know. We were his entertainment, the fact that we would do crazy things to bring more fun to his party.
I've seen Jimmy Buffett more times live than any other act. I grew up working in the business and have seen thousands of concerts from both sides of the stage. Nothing is like a Parrothead show. The only act I find myself with my kids and their kids at. I'm not unusual. It is really a large extended family, and after the show, you will find your face hurts from smiling, your sides ache from laughing, and your voice is horse from singing along.
The amazing thing about going to a Jimmy Buffet concert is that when you leave it, you actually feel like you have been hanging out with Jimmy on his front porch and that he was just playing songs for you specifically. You leave feeling like he is a personal friend.... (Netherlands, Dan Fogelberg)
This was actually a free concert Jimmy Buffett put together after the huge oil spill in the Gulf a few years back. It was originally scheduled for a couple weeks earlier but a hurricane hit so it was rescheduled and a couple headliners that were originally to perform weren’t able to but I know Jesse Winchester was one of the acts that was there and I believe Alan Touissant as well if my fading memory is correct. They also played it live on CMT great show and great videos on RUclips from it.
It's not a festival. It's just a Jimmy Buffett concert. They start very very early and end late. I saw him in '93 at Merryweather Post Pavillion. It was PACKED, and we partied from 9AM until the end of the show. I had some random girl show up that turned into my "date" for the duration of the show. It was amazing.
I was at this show at the Hangout in Gulf Shores, Alabama. This was a concert he did to benefit the people of the Alabama/MS/LA coast broken by the BP Oil - Deepwater Horizon spill.
Glad to see you find Jimmy. His fans are called Parrot Heads and you can't understand them unless you are one, and I are one, lol. His music is a rabbit hole that is a pleasure to fall into.
I was at the show. It was in Gulf Shores Alabama as a benefit to our local economy after the BP oil spill. I cant even begin to explain how big of a deal this was for us.
You can tell what album you learned his songs from because from time to time or concert to concert he will change some of the lyrics…All of his songs are amazing but One Particular Harbor, Volcano, Gypsies In the Palace and Coconut Telegraph are some of my personal favorites. I have been a parrot head for a long time and have raised my Parakeets (kids) on him as well.
There are two most authentic concert experiences in the world (for those who do not do mosh pits). They are the Grateful Dead and Jimmy Buffett. The shared vibe and catharsis is tangible.
Seen him too many times to count. His followers are known as Parrot Heads. Knowing all the words to all his songs. He played the bar scenes in New Orleans for so many years. Now he flifthy rich from all the Margaitaville marketing
That's a typical Jimmy Buffett concert crowd. A Jimmy Buffett concert was a festival in itself. He and the band would play for 3 hrs, with a few intermissions. Jimmy also played every concert barefoot because thats how laid-back he was.
My favorite two Jimmy Buffett songs are two that I can truly identify with from my younger years. "Why don't we get drunk and screw." and what consider the next morning really bad hang over song. "My head hurts, my feet stink and I don't love Jesus."
Jimmy wrote a great book back in the late 80's or early 90's called "Where Is Joe Merchant?" It's a fun fun story and really well written. If you can find it, I think you'd enjoy it. 😊✌️
That is not a festival, it is a Jimmy Buffett concert! It’s always like this. I adore beach music and Jimmy is the epitome of the sound. He is stellar at combining reggae, zydeco, and country into his own unique and very distinctive blend of beach music.
This appears to be from the Gulf Shores benefit, much bigger than a "normal" Buffett show.
Whether that was a festival or not, he has huge concerts like this quite often just by himself.
@@billyf2833 It was his benefit show for the BP oil spill victims

And sharks that swim on the land and feed right after dark🦈

The studio version is more melancholy, which is hard to get across live when everybody is having such a good time.

The song was written back in the seventies and is probably being performed 20 years later

“A pirate looks at forty”. I think you’ll love it!
There are two most authentic concert experiences in the world (for those who do not do mosh pits). They are the Grateful Dead and Jimmy Buffett. The shared vibe and catharsis is tangible.
Parrotheads, represent! 🤘✌
It wasn’t a festival, those were Jimmy Buffets fins fans. Great artist.
Thanks much. Jimmy's music is very joyful. Good reaction.
thats down on the florida panhandle.....Jimmy and Johnny and Willie plus a few others are the icons of american music
Jimmy Buffett is an institution down south and with sailors world wide.
Seen him too many times to count. His followers are known as Parrot Heads. Knowing all the words to all his songs. He played the bar scenes in New Orleans for so many years.
Now he flifthy rich from all the Margaitaville marketing
I saw Jimmy the first time in 1978. He is very popular in Ohio. At one point he sold out 5 nights in a row at Riverbend in Cincinnati
That's a typical Jimmy Buffett concert crowd. A Jimmy Buffett concert was a festival in itself. He and the band would play for 3 hrs, with a few intermissions. Jimmy also played every concert barefoot because thats how laid-back he was.
I don't know much about Jimmy Buffett but I know "Volcano" and "Cheeseburger in Paradise" so I'm happy for life.
The wife and I went to his cafe in NOLA and spit an order of Gator Bites, plus a beer each.
My favorite two Jimmy Buffett songs are two that I can truly identify with from my younger years. "Why don't we get drunk and screw." and what consider the next morning really bad hang over song. "My head hurts, my feet stink and I don't love Jesus."
He's always aware of his fans.. anddddd where he is. I saw head bob I thought. He's connected
Now you'll never be able to experience a Buffett concert again
'Margaritaville' is probably his most famous tune.
Jimmy wrote a great book back in the late 80's or early 90's called "Where Is Joe Merchant?" It's a fun fun story and really well written. If you can find it, I think you'd enjoy it. 😊✌️
