Hard to go wrong with Jimmy Buffet. He's got a whole catalog of amazing music ranging from poignant to hilarious. Fins, A Pirate Looks at 40, Pencil Thin Mustache, Cheeseburger in Paradise...the list is endless.
I was lucky enough to have a beer with Jimmy here in Bellingham, Wa (USA) one night in 1977 after he finished a show and wandered into a local bar. What a great guy he was, got up on stage with the local band and rocked into the wee hours. Memorable evening.
Hey! I am from Blaine WA. Your story is so cool! I must have been at WSU when he came through. Never saw him. Still gave "A1A" in my collection though. (As well as others)
I agree with everyone here. (Note he is an author too) A pirate looks at 40, Tin cup chalice, and Trying to reason with the Hurricane are my favorites. This song was the first song of his I heard up on the NW Canadian Border. Reminds of Gordon Lightfoot had been raised in the Florida Keys--from a nearly Canadian that is a compliment!
He’s an incredible songwriter. Some of them are funny, which can lead people to underestimate his skills. Check out A Pirate Looks at 40, He went to Paris, One Particular Harbor, and The Wino and I Know
I love this song. It is, as you say, so mellow. Several people have reccommended He Went to Paris- I agree. It may be Jimmy's most serious, deepest song.
I believe Jimmy Buffett is from the Gulf Coast area around Biloxi. That's why his songs have that island type of sound, he's actually from beach areas. He has a casino called Margaritaville in Biloxi and he has a chain of restaurants with the same name too. Jimmy was never a huge success type of recording artist but his songs are unique and authentic. They tell a story and not many artists can still do that but even today, his fans called "parrot heads" still go to see him perform live. When you hear a Buffett song, you know it instantly and just vibe to it. Great reaction!
Jimmy Buffett is a singer-songwriter, musician & actor. His songs have such a laid back island feel to them. I had a couple of his albums. He had a lot of hits especially in the 70's-80's such as "Margaritaville", “Son Of Son Of A Sailor”, “Fins”, “He Went To Paris”, “Cheeseburger In Paradise”, “A Pirate Looks At Forty”, “One Particular Harbor”, “Changes In Latitudes, Changes In Attitudes”, “Volcano”, “Boat Drinks”, “Pencil Thin Mustache” etc.
Excellent comment! "African Friend", "Havana Daydreamin'", "Who's the Blonde Stranger", "Cliches", and "Something So Feminine About A Mandolin" are some I would add. Everybody has their favorite Buffett songs and they are all correct. I do not know of a single bad Buffett song.
Jimmy took his first shot at music in Nashville, but he just did not fit in so he returned to his roots... the beach and the sea... and carved out a very popular/niche market in popular music. Along the way he became an inspiration to the next generation of country artists and after his initial failure a country artist finally scored a huge hit in a duet with Alan Jackson titled "It's 5 o'clock Somewhere" Jimmy is still able to pack out concert venues and of course has a chain of Margaritaville restaurants as well as being a renowned novelist and developer of residential subdivisions!
I have loved this song forever. "Living and Dying in 3/4 Time" is still in my collection. This is prior to the fun "parrot head" persona. He is a great songwriter, and I'm not sure people give him his due. Thanks for this. I feel 18 again.
Jimmy Buffett is very much worth a deep dive. I know you've done a couple of his already, but it's so perfect you said his voice sounded like he was on a beach somewhere. That's pretty much his element.
You must see his Fruitcakes video to appreciate why he has been a sensation for decades. He has such a diversity of songs. Some will make you cry while others will make you dance. I've been a fan for 45 years! He deserves more reactions.
He’s one of the richest artists in music with recording, live concerts, songwriting, writing books, and a chain of Margaritaville restaurants and resorts.
RIP Jimmy. I spent a lot of time in the Keys which is where this was filmed. Notice the flat bottom boat that’s because of the coral reefs in that beautiful area.
I really only know Jimmy Buffet for this song and "Margaritaville", but they are both fantastic .. If his voice was any more laid back, he'd be asleep ! 😅
Time for Jimmy Buffet's song: Fruitcakes. .'.....you know I was talkin' to my friend Desdemona... she said that the cosmic bakers took us out of the oven a little too early and that's the reason we're as crazy as we are......"🤣🤣✌❤
Mine as well. And the official video is really special seeing Jimmy and Jane so young and happy. When I watch this video the sound and sights really put me back in the seventies. Goodness, I miss that time. And now will be missing Jimmy. But we will still be blessed with his music as he was blessed with a wonderful life. RIP
Harri, I totally agree with you about the video production. Something that is "amateur" or "homemade" has so much heart & soul put into it. You can feel the authenticity. Whereas the big million dollar videos feel hollow and corporate. This is a beautiful video to go along with a beautiful song.
I'm a long tiime Parrot Head!!! Do pencil thin mustache next and then his entire catalog. He's amazing. Jimmy and I were in our 20s when this was made. Now we're both 75
Became a fan the first time I heard this when I was a sophomore in highschool 1975. Saw him many times before the drunken frat boy parrot head wannabes. For me the last straw was when I had 2 teenage female employees at a a show and 2 guys just whipped them on our and peed right there on the lawn, and another dude climbed up on the stage canopy, peeking over the top, before I watched him slide down and fall 100 feet and the only thing that saved him was he hit the tour bus. This was early 2000s.
2. of my favorite JB songs are from his relatively" obscure are 1) My Head Hurts, My Feet Sink & I Don't Love Jesus" AND 2 "This Hate Room" both show his humor & many of his other talents" both are great reaction videos opportunities. Jim
Jimmy Buffett has a wonderful voice. All his songs are totally captivating. His smooth vocals are so easy to listen to and he's a great storyteller. He always sends you to Margaritaville. One of my favourites is the remake of Hank William's "Hey Good Lookin", with a few of his talented friends. Great video, great song. Thanks for your reaction Harri. Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
Weird timing; I just went to a karaoke bar that I go to on Mondays. I let the host pick out songs from my history (there are a lot in there to pick from) so I never know what I will be singing until I'm up there. Tonight he picked, "Come Monday" and then I come home and it's on my RUclips tab with Harry.😃
One of those rare instances where the video fits the music. I bet his love for the beach is as strong as his love for his wife.😎A day in the life…. Great video Harri. I love your reactions they’re so chill. You sir are one of a kind…keep ‘em coming…
I’m SO HAPPY that you decided to give some other Buffett songs a listen. I keep saying to people he was way more than a beach bum who sang drinking songs. I am not a drinker, & I have been to countless Jimmy Buffett concerts. I am an OG Parrothead & an African American woman. I heard Come Monday on the radio in the 70’s and was hopelessly in love with his voice, lyrics, story telling & style ever since. He transcends all genres and barriers and nurtures the soul of everyone. He was a pied piper. An extraordinary human being. 💔🦈☝🏾✌🏾
You can't help but admire someone who basically turns one song of his into a 3/4 of a Billion (Yes with a B) Empire... Mr Buffett (2 hard "T's") is one of the Richest Musicians alive today.
JImmy is the "King of somewhere hot". Born on the Mississippi Coast and became the epitome of the gulf life in Key West. That video was made when he was in his 20's in the mid 1970's. It was his first "hit", but he followed it with so much memorable music.
Love this song. Learned to play it on my guitar and if I only have a few spare minutes to practice, this is the song that I play. David Letterman likes this song also and one time he had Buffet on his show for an interview and Dave asked Jimmy to do this song, solo on an acoustic guitar... it was great. There's video out there, easy to find.
Jimmy is a very smart man and is a self made billionaire. At the age of 21, his net worth was $20,000. It took him 13 years to become a millionaire and 33 years to become a billionaire at the age of 55.
Love Jimmy Buffett. He has so many great songs. Margaritaville and Cheeseburger in Paradise are 2 of my favorites. I'm surprised that you hadn't heard him before.
Hush puppies are a kind of fritter made from corn meal with a little diced onion served up with fried catfish ( just in case you didn't know) lol. If she captured this without money, she did a great job! Harri, you have got to check out some of Jimmy's other tunes. Thanks Harri
Let us not forget the memorable Cheeseburger in Paradise. 🍔

Savannah Jane is as beautiful a name to grace one's daughter with as any other...well done, sir
He has a boatload of hits; however this is my personal favorite.
This is such a beautiful song. Buffett is so known for comedy-novelty songs, but this one shows his depth.
How about "He Went to Paris"? Commedy-novelty songs???? Maybe 1/4 tops of his songs are novelty.
@@lotsoffun4716 Yeah, but the novelty ones were often the biggest and best-remembered hits. No offense meant toward Buffet.
@@tombeyerlein3813Yes. It's a shame that the sillier songs were the most popular.
People that care will do a deeper dive into his catalog.
Taking me back to 1974, Harri...this classic by Buffet got a lot of radio airplay back in the day. Love this song and reaction!
For those of us "of a certain age" this wonderful song is part of the soundtrack of our youth. Loved it then, love it now

Margaritaville is worthy of the next watch, then go through the rest of these songs. He also has the best concerts.
All great choices. I'll add my voice for Son Of A Son Of A Sailor.
Dive down, my friend!!! It’s a deep rabbit hole!! It’ll be worth it! ❤
You forgot "Why don't we get drunk and screw" qand "My head hurts, my feet stink and I don't love Jesus"

"Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes" is a great one too. "It's My Job" is worth a listen too.
Jimmy Buffett is very much worth a deep dive. I know you've done a couple of his already, but it's so perfect you said his voice sounded like he was on a beach somewhere. That's pretty much his element.
My favorite Jimmy Buffett song ❤️ everyone loves Margaritaville but I prefer this song ✌️

Buff It
I was 16 when that came out in 1974. I've never been much of a Jimmy Buffet fan, but have always loved that song. 👍
Thanks for the beautiful song on a Monday night here on the east coast USA. This is early Buffet, one of his best imo.
He’s one of the richest artists in music with recording, live concerts, songwriting, writing books, and a chain of Margaritaville restaurants and resorts.
Reportedly his wealth climbed to a billion.
Very impressive.
Fair winds Jimmy, see you for a Margherita when I get there. RIP

RIP Jimmy, you will be sorely missed.
You pronounce the "T" in Buffet (his wife isn't Hyacinth Bucket)
🤣🤣😂 Yes, It's Bouquet !!!
One of my favorite songs. It was so sad losing him over the weekend, listening to this was balm for the soul.
Real, natural, relatable....that's the very essence of Jimmy's appeal
I named my oldest son Cameron after Jimmy Buffetts song "Beach House on the Moon". I love his music!
RIP as I know you will Jimmy Buffet. I knew you, bet never met you.
My number 1 favorite buffet song. Also like the "I don't know" song.
This is the best song that Jimmy Buffet ever made. After this song, well....
'BEAUTI(FULL) SONG!'--'LOVE IT!'~'R.I.P.'~'REMEMBER.IMPORTANT.PEOPLE'~JIMMY👋♥🎵🎶 BUFFET~
This is favorite song of Jimmy's, but I love singing along with several of his songs.
I've always been a big fan if Jimmy Buffett. His songs always sounded as though he could be singing at a bar on a South Florida beach on weekends
He did a great song, and video, with Alan Jackson "It's 5 o'clock Somewhere".
A pure simple song of yearning.💖
Jimmy Buffett's music motivated me to demotivate. Traded in the corporate desk and moved onto a sailboat....22 years ago!
Sail on sailor
If you want to "travel" with Jimmy, you have to listen to "He Went To Paris". Storytelling at its finest!
I'm a long tiime Parrot Head!!! Do pencil thin mustache next and then his entire catalog. He's amazing. Jimmy and I were in our 20s when this was made. Now we're both 75
This is the first Jimmy Buffett song that I ever heard and it remains my fave of his to this day

Have loved this song since it came out, didn't know who it was for many years.
I'm still looking for my lost shaker of salt -- at this point I think it might be better if I never find it. It's more fun to keep searching for it.

As I am sure those below have already suggested "Cheeseburger in Paradice". It's delightful.
I first encountered the brown LA haze in 76, I could see it, taste it and smell it.
Try Dave Loggins - "Please Come To Boston"
He Went to Paris is a masterpiece. I would love to see your reaction to it.
Great reaction. I always enjoy your insight. Jimmys music is timeless. His concerts are always a big beach party

My favorite Jimmy Buffet song.
Great song, one of the best singer song writers...
Was blessed to work backstage at one of his concerts, and he was so humble and cool
Now you've done it... JB has at least 3 dozens songs you'll want to look at and he is a great story teller. Thanks for sharing.
He now lives in Key West, Florida. Love your reactions keep up the good work.
My favorite buffet song. "Changes in latitudes, changes in attitude" is one I think you would like too
"A Pirate Looks At Forty" is good
One of my all time favorite entertainer
Great review! I recommend "He Went to Paris" and "A Pirate Looks at Forty".
Don't miss "can't reason with hurricane season"
This is my favorite of his, but watch Margaritaville, it spawned a multibillion $ empire.
You would love his "Margaritaville" and "Miss you so badly".
Love his early stuff, the first 3 albums.
Well. I heard this song all the time, long ago, didn't know it was him. I know him best for, 'Margaritaville'.
My favorite jimmy Buffet song!
Besides “Margaritaville” this is my favorite song.
One of my favs, definitely on my playlist 💖. Thank you. ☺️

Hello from a year ago, Harri. Welcome to today.
Harri, please react to his ‘Pencil thin mustache’. Thanks.
My favorite from Jimmy Buffett, I love this song! Thanks for the reaction.
Love Jimmy Buffett. He has so many great songs. Margaritaville and Cheeseburger in Paradise are 2 of my favorites. I'm surprised that you hadn't heard him before.

One of the great songwriters. Try Margaritaville or Cheeseburger in Paradise.
One can never get enough of Jimmy Buffet, and this submission is an excellent example of why. Harri, I tip my (imaginary) hat to you for this one,
If I'm not mistaken he was pretty much turned down by country music which he wanted to be. Take that country. Another great video Harri
Love me some Jimmy Buffet ❤
