@@davidm3118 personally, I think trying to postulate what a man who has been dead for 222 years would think about specific circumstances involving our country that now has over 62x the population and societal advancements that couldn't even be dreamed of is both pure conjecture and not helpful or relevant. I understand the sentiment, I do. But it's hard to not impart one's own views when imagining these things, considering nobody alive has actual context for how issues facing us now are similar or different to issues we've had in our early history, nor are we completely sure how these historical figures ACTUALLY were beyond the records we have. (People of course are always more complicated than a singular narrative). Extrapolating the opinions of the dead will always be a gray area, and therefore a pretty difficult argument to lean on for policy-making. Also not saying that there aren't other arguments against Warren's points, but I just don't think an opinion on a dead person's maybe-opinion cuts it.

Women who got pregnant were expected to resign from their jobs. If they didn't, they were fired. The U.S. Congress passed the Pregnancy Discrimination Act (P.L. 95-555) made that illegal in 1978. But it still happens. My co-worker in 2001 was fired while she was on maternity leave. The company got around it by (A) having better lawyers and (B) claiming that they didn't fire her but eliminated her whole department (which consisted of her and me). You have to sue your employer if they fire you for being pregnant. In 2014 a bill was passed by Congress to prevent this kind of discrimination. But of course it has not been made Federal Law because the conservatives want women to stay poor and dependent upon them.

As a young mother, going back to school for an education degree, I ran into the same problem. Campus daycare insisted all the kids were potty trained. All I needed was childcare for 2 hours, twice a week. My disabled child who was 3 had everything in place but could not walk. After being turned down by church daycares, I begged the campus daycare to take her. At most she had to be lifted from her stroller and sat in the floor to play. After a few weeks into the semester the daycare workers complained so much when she needed help and the first time she asked to go to the bathroom, that they told me she couldn't return to daycare. I had no choice. My 3 year old daughter started attending college classes with me. She was an angel. She never disturbed. Just sat there silently coloring, playing, looking at books, eating a snack, taking a stroller nap. Thank God none of my professors minded. I got my degree in elementary education degree a year later and ended up teaching at the school she eventually attended. Thank God I found a woman who babysat while I did my student teaching. Several years later, when her brother was born, I faced the same problem and had to take a year off from teaching because there was no childcare in my rural community. A neighbor babysat for a few months, then after some bouncing around a local church opened a daycare. It was so expensive! It took more than half my salary. Thank God we weren't a single income family at that point.
Since then I was able to teach 25 years and looking at retirement soon. My daughter has long since graduated from the same university she sat in class as a pre-schooler. My son is a senior there.
Daycare in small, rural communities is often scarce and the reputable childcare facilities are almost too expensive for mothers to work. Definitely a problem America needs to address.

    • @Sir.Craze-
      @Sir.Craze- 3 года назад +1

      I mean, no.
      Well... Yes.
      Wait, sorry. Let me explain.
That's what they are already doing.
They could just move the company, period. As opposed to having it incorporated or whatever in another country.
Like move all of their property. Ect. But they would still be doing business in the USA in the same way.
Even then I'm 99% sure they would still need to pay tax on sales. Idk if they do or not currently.
But I do assume that's the one thing they pay already.
Anyways. The problem just already is what you described.
They already aren't a company of the USA (or however you want to say it) and don't hold their money there. So the combination of the two, plus a few other clever financial tricks like investing and taxbreaks, means they don't have to pay any tax.
The problem is just. How do we fix that though? Do we force a company to have the headquarters in the USA if they want to do business there?but who cares because it's the money we want them to keep in the USA.
      Then what about foreign companies.?
Same thing with forcing a company to keep their money in a certain place. On what grounds can you do that? Who's to say where someone can or can not keep their money. Especially if we haven't solved that first part and they don't even own a company in the USA, technically.
Law is a complicated spiderweb of rules that, when used correctly, can be made to reinforce each other in such a way as to make them appear impenetrable.
Of course I'm not saying we shouldn't try!
I only wanted to ask you to consider how hard it is as it helps understand the complications.
      🎩👌
You have to either stop a country from going elswhere or force them to come back.
Then we're left with the fact that it's extremely hard if not completely impossible to force or convince every country to do the same. So there will always be somewhere for them to go.
It really sucks to think about. Because I believe you always end up with the conclusion that the entire system needs to be remade at worse or tweeked all the way through at best, just to fix the issue.
      🎩👌

Other countries **already** apply taxation policies where, if a company isn't paying their due tax in their home country they are then taxed where they actually base their operations.
And, conversely, if a company decides to operate in a 'low tax location' overseas their home government increases their taxes accordingly.
It's only in 'USA world' where these sorts of policies seem like a strange, "new" idea.

    • @Sir.Craze-
      @Sir.Craze- 3 года назад +1

      @@telectronix1368
      wait xD
Yes, of course most countries don't allow it. But it's not all countries. That's what tax havens are.
      That's the point.
      "only in USA"
"other governments increase their taxes accordingly"
"Taxed by country they are in insted of country owed that tax"
      Ok.
I'll start by saying that I'm not sure how a separate country collecting tax owed to another government helps this problem at all.
I don't think a company is going to choose one of those countries that would collect it. That's the whole point.
If the USA is having this problem then there are "other countries" who allow it. And if you don't stop every country from sheltering tax it doesn't matter.
Also. How do you have a home country "increase tax" on a single company avoiding paying it if they don't hold their company in your country or bank accounts in a bank that will talk to you?
I could be wrong, but I don't think you understand how tax evasion works, friend.
And that's ok. It sounds like it's not a problem in your country.
      But the entire problem is:
      1. That they are in a country that will not cooperate with the home country.
      2. They don't have money in home country to increase tax on.
(Plus, politicians are scared to be the one blamed for a company removing jobs if that company needs to move a factory, ect. to avoid someone insisting they are an American company. Although because of the status quo it never has to get that far.)
Combine that with a bunch of other wishy washy policy and tax law bullshit and you have what we have now. A disaster xD
Oh, also. I'm not American. Insult them all you like.

She was working just so she could build the resume. The only other choice is to leave your resume blank from the time the first child is born until your last child is old enough for school so you only need to pay for aftercare.
