She basically just reframed his question as her own response. But she uses that soft, emphatic voice to get away with dodging questions like this.
no, she doesn't. She has zero background in network security and by zero, I mean she didn't bother to watch a single video on it or go to a conference. You can't start doing tit-4-tat on cyber attacks without emboldening dictators. The obvious solution is NETWORK SECURITY. Update it, upgrade it. This would be a disaster if they end up just being reactive on this stuff.

The problem with a lot of our infrastructure is the systems are old systems designed in the 80's and 90's before the internet was a thing. They have issues like default usernames and passwords which was not as big of a deal when the machines are not networked. The problem is the owners of these systems never bothered to upgrade and simply put these machines which were never intended to be networked on the internet with little to no security because it saved them money.

Kurt Frederiksen The last administration talked about cybersecurity but did nothing to improve it. McConnell refused to bring enhanced cybersecurity bills for a vote; Trump took Putin's word over our own agencies.
They had time to at least buy it good protection - they have been told for years to keep it segregated from everything else.
Bigger problem is the number of people who still use Password as their password.
@@oxnyxws from what I heard the issue is cost. I used to work in the cyber security field and I read a story of a chemical manufacturing plant which blew up and killed some people due to some hacker getting into their system. The owners response was to just rebuild the plant as it was, with the same equipment and not changing a thing due to the cost of getting anything newer. The issue with segregation is it is expensive to properly do. Additionally, I am willing to bet there are remote monitoring systems built for these devices which pull out all the settings and allow real time monitoring over the network and possible correction when things go wrong. Something tells me businesses are cheap and have one sys admin for multiple sites. Air gapping the systems as they should do and forcing the admins to physically come in will force businesses to hire both more admins and people in order to monitor the systems to make sure they are working correctly.
Heck tools like Shodan make it super simple to find devices, and with the proliferation of user manuals on line it is not that difficult to find the hard coded credentials.
Please don’t go back to wearing suits. Casual Stephen is a great Stephen!

(And though it's impossible to stop something getting hacked completely, the question is how well security was established in this, it would not be the first time a big company skimped on basically every software security measure you could've taken).

Just one problem with your analogy. Russia was ruled by an absolute monarch in 1917. And the Russian empire just lost millions of young men in the First World War. Tensions were already brewing and the army was in disarray. And while yes there was a brief moment of democracy in the Duma. Political murders were almost daily. The current tensions between the trump followers the GOP and the Dems is nothing compared to the final days of the Russian empire. Plus the US army is an well fed, well funded machine that has no interest in picking sides or fighting some dumb civil war with a bunch of racist lunatics who collect ammo for a hobby
