@Jess-pagesandgrace I try to get a good mix of nonfiction and fiction, books I'm excited to read and books I need a bit of a push to read, and owned vs library. I also try to avoid series, unless it is the first or last book.
That is a good mix! I have 10 of Charles Dickens books to read his novels to 0. I'm hoping to read 1 a month. I will be buddy reading The Idiot by Dostoevsky and Les Miserables by Victor Hugo in January and February. The last 8 years I read history and nonfiction. Now I'm going through a classics phase. My 12 yo is a very advanced reader but there are few challenging books appropriate for a 12 yo. Some classics are good options, but my husband or I need to read them first.
@Fernie4243 that's an impressive list of classics! My 8 year old is a voracious reader. It has been difficult to keep ahead of him and find good books on audiobook for my 10 year old.
@AshleasBookshelf voracious, yes. We understand. Over dinner yesterday she said she had a reading goal of 650 books for 2025. Her father and I almost choked on our food, though why we were so surprised I don't know. She checks out at least 15 books from the library a week and she reads them all at least once. We certainly don't read that fast and struggle to research authors and reviews to keep up. We told her for every 10 fiction she would have to include 2 non-fiction or approved classics. I don't think that will slow her down much; she reads really fast and knows what she's read. Plus she has this freaky, possibly photographic, memory. We have a lot of retired teacher friends and homeschool friends but she's read all their book suggestions. It's a struggle.
Poison looks GOOD! The Morley book sounds a bit like Eight Cousins. I HATE that they gave you that total spoiler. For Whom the Sun Sings is GREAT but that tagline is awful. STill infuriates me. The Garden at the Edge of Beyond is kind of a fantasy devotional. Sort of. I've been anxious to read The Light between Worlds, too. It might be one of my "beauty" books. You have several on your list that I want to read! EEEP!
@@ChautonaHavig I'm totally up for a buddy read or two. I'm excited to get to most of these. Also, I have the last two Mrs. Pollifax books I want to read. For now, I'm enjoying my month of mood reading.
@@ChautonaHavig Do you want to do a buddy read for January? The only book I'm 100% committed to reading that month is The Light Between Worlds. I would also like to read Morley's Thorofare. At almost 500 pages, it intimidates me a bit. You are the one who introduced me to Morley's work, so it would be fun to read one of his books at the same time as you.
Great list for 2025! I love choosing a few books from my shelves that I just haven't picked up yet, too. ❤
