Oh perfect! I did not know that, or maybe somewhere in the recesses of my brain I did and that's why I picked that prompt. But at any rate that works perfectly!
I love this challenge, especially the multiple layers you add to it! I've been hesitant to join any challenges because I am more of a mood reader, but this seems flexible enough to still allow for that, plus I've been wanting to read more classics. Thank you so much! Looking forward to next year!
I just discovered your channel : ) what a delight you are!! I was listening while preparing dinner, so I’m watching again to write down the challenges and prompts. Woohoo!! 🎉
So fun, Anne! I will definitely be participating! I don’t read as many books as you or many on here, so I may not get to all the scavenger hunt tasks but I will try for at least one per month :)
Anne, this is by far the most exciting reading challenge! 🤩 This is exactly what I’ve been wanting and needing and didn’t even know it! 😂 I wrote down every prompt, every scavenger hunt and level 3 prompt in my reading journal. I will be joining and participating. This is making my literary heart so happy and I actually cannot wait. 🥰 I truly am thankful that you created this! You have made my day. ❤️
Thank you for all the time and energy you put into your channel for us! This sounds helpful, I probably will do some of them. Can we print these prompts? Or I can rewatch and take notes 📝. Take care and happy reading 📚
This sounds fun! I'm definitely up for trying at least the basic level and seeing how life is going when it comes to level 2-3. Thanks for the thought you put into this.
Anne, this sounds amazing! It works well with my 2025 plans and I am looking forward to incorporating it into my reading next year!! Absolutely stellar job of making an interesting and intricate yearly challenge! 🥰🥰
It sounds doable, at least at level one, for me. This has been a packed and difficult year so I am not committing to the full thing but it will probably happen even without committing fully. 🤗 Love that you put this together so thoughtfully ♥️🥰
Yeah, I think most of the main prompts are pretty easy. I hear you on the commitment thing! I bombed one of the challenges I did last year, which is partly what prompted me to do this one.
This is the perfect reading challenge for me! This will help me get some of these books read off of my shelf, too, because I'm sure I have something already for every single prompt!! YAY!
Awesome, yay! I'm so excited!!! I haven't actually thought seriously about which ones i'll pick for which prompt, but I am quite sure I have plenty options on my own shelves, for sure.
Haha! I have to pick and choose carefully which ones I commit to. I've discovered I don't do well with the ones that choose the books for me. I can only stick to the ones where I actually get to choose the specific book I read.
Sounds like you have done a lot of work in this challenge. I only read classics. I do my own thing by reading books from certain authors, I read regency, and read my Jane Austen Society books for the year, we do zoom discussions. I participate in Victober but I read Victorian lit all year round. I look at the books I already have and choose one. That's my reading challenge and I take my time reading that one book. I aim for a month but I could read one and start another. i only read about an hour and a half a day. That's all I can read. It's my morning routine. I do hope you get a lot of participants for your challenge. It sounds fun.
This is a great challenge and prompts! In August I participate in Faulkner in August, so finding some language I know, some language I don’t know, and some poetry will be easy there! 😂 Thanks!
Hi Anne! This sounds like so much fun, and very do-able! I'm considering joining you at the first level. My only question is regarding the definition of a classic as any book that's at least 50 years old? Totally happy to abide by whatever guidelines you set; of course! It's just more me philosophizing (!) about what makes a book a classic. By this definition it suggests that any book that's mid-century modern or older is "a classic." On the other hand, I realize that in order to be considered a classic, a book needs to stand the test of time. But that aside, I think your challenges are very do-able and fit in well with the other tags, etc. I usually do on Book Tube. Thanks so much for putting this together! Looking forward! 😊 Oh, and PS. Short works (Poetry, Short Stories, Essays) are my specialty -- so I can think of lots of wonderful works for those!
I agree that an arbitrary number of years does not define a classic in and of itself, but it's the only objective metric and that keeps it easy across the board. You are free to define it more specifically for yourself, certainly! 😊 For myself, I will definitely be focusing on books that are generally considered classic in terms of their content and depth, but it doesn't bother me if people want to read what others might consider "lesser" books of earlier eras. Like you said, the broadest definition of classic is a book that has stood the test of time - so time is the metric we'll go by in this case, and I'll leave the particulars up to each individual.
Im ready for the challenge, I will join you. ❤ I love classical novels from william shakesphere, arthur conan, jane austine etc... ❤❤❤ Im excited about this challenge😍
I plan on reading a lot more classics starting now and through 2025 as well! I've just finished Middlemarch and Dracula. I'm almost done with Wuthering Heights, and then next up will be East of Eden, The Three Musketeers and then Don Quixote. After that, we'll see! I hope you enjoy!
New subscriber here! I'm going to try at least level one of your 2025 challenge with the added requirement that everything needs to have been written in (or close to) the eighteenth century (1701-1800) because that's where I am up to in my own classics reading challenge of reading classics in chronological order - may have to bend a category here or there but I won't tell if you don't 😉
@@insearchofwonderjust saw your epistolary January challenge post which has helped me settle on my January read for this challenge. The eighteenth century seems to be when epistolary fiction took off and I have several on my list but only one currently on my shelf: Humphrey Clinker by Tobias Smollett. So easy decision. 😊
@@warrengilson1835 Tobias Smollett is one that's on my eventual TBR, but pretty far down the list at the moment. I'll look forward to hearing your thoughts! And yes, I agree the 18th century authors were prolific with the epistolaries!
I was so excited to see this in my feed, Anne, because my favorite classics challenge in the blogging world went away last year :( This sounds great, but I have one question: does your challenge require reading a classic every single month? Or can we pick and choose? My annual goal is usually 6 classics. The challenge is very creative, especially the scavenger hunt! Love it.
Oh thank you so much! What challenge was it that you loved? Ideally, yes, a classic every month. But for one thing, anything published before 1975 is game, so that opens up a whole lot of books that aren't traditionally considered "classic". For another, there are no reading challenge police, so you can do it how you want! I hope you join us for as much as you can. ❤️
@@insearchofwonder The one I did on my blog for years was the Back to the Classics Challenge, where you sent your own goals for # per year, and she had categories of different types of classics ... but she stopped hosting it two years ago. I've just kept doing it on my own because it fit my needs and wasn't too prescriptive. But, whew, glad to hear there are no challenge police! ha ha I will join in next year, as I am able - I'm sort of at the stage of combining my blog and Booktube reading challenges as I transition to more YT time and less blog time :) Thanks for hosting this!
Yes, Olive said this was the last NonfictionNovember, but someone else may pick it up and most of us are so accustomed to it that we're planning on just doing it anyway lol.
I don't read many classics, so reading a book each month to fulfill the monthly would be really tough. However, I really like your monthly challenges, and I'll try to participate in those.
This is a great idea. I looked at your images that are all in color, and they are hard on my eyes. Could you provide an alternative black and white version of the bingo, etc.? Or is there a way I can convert this easily myself?
I would love to participate and get the bingo board images for my reading journal, problem is the only way that seems to be available is through screen shots.
Hello! Click on the link for the bingo board to open the image, then right click on the image and choose "Save as". Download to your computer and then you can print from there. Hope that helps!
I didn't take that to mean you would be using the book to read in January, just that you could do those things and still fit within the book buying ban.
Yes, what Courtney said! Basically, the goal is to read what you own and not buy new things. I was just explaining that it wasn't necessarily an "acquisition" ban, just a spending ban really.
I love how you matched up your prompts with Booktube monthly challenges. All the levels!! I am looking forward to diving in next year.
Yes! I like things to be streamlined and organized in my brain, so layering with the existing BT challenges helps a lot. So glad you're joining me!!!!
What a fun challenge! Love how you incorporated themes of already existing monthly reads.
