    SUCH good teaching! 😀 Just wish I had my own island to practice with my oh so VERY loud self. 😀 That’s one good reason to have a personal voice teacher. So you can go yell in their studio. 😀🎤🎶

      Try this. Practice into a cup, like those blue or red ones and poke a small hole in the bottom. You will be able to sing in a full voice without disturbing someone else too much! Try it!

    Fantastic. I remember asking you about this very subject a few months ago, when you said that Dimash's ability to go through different register shows his ability to balance his air pressure or something like that. I asked you what that meant. So either you remembered the question [Even if you didn't remember who asked], or this is a wonderful coincidence. Either way, thank you.

    Hi Madeleine!
    I just want to let you know that among all the different vocal coaches on RUclips, I find your explanation the most useful to really understand how mixed voice should work and sound like. Many coaches encourage the use of nasalities to help identify mix, but doesn’t necessarily give good explanation why that is the case - a misbalancs of air pressure between mouth and nose as simple as that.
    I think many haven’t succeeded in accessing the mix is because of dominating mouth pressure, so practice takes time to accommodate in that nasal space (the mask).
    It’s easy to fall out of that space and going back to just mouth and we strain as we sing higher in chest register.
    I really want to thank you for making such good videos and insightful singing advice!!!!!

    The "I say No" exercise will work like the way you demonstrate only if we raise our soft palette and keep it tight for the compressed air to pass through. Otherwise, it will not sound as solid and projected or full like your demonstration. Thank you very much.

    Hi! I’ve been practicing different exercises in a regular basis at home for a while now including this exercise and I feel the resonance in my nose and mouth...
    But as I control to do this exercise , it halls mostly to the throat and it slightly starts to hurt... what am I missing?
    This has been a problem for a while now and I haven’t been able to fix it! Really frustrating of course because when I talk, the sound falls straight to my throat and nothing really resonates ... people can barely hear me! And after a while; my throat hurts.
    The only thing I can think of is throat tension and being so stuck in my throat for such a long time, that’s it’s just so much harder to connect the different registers of my voice... I’d really love to fix this.
    Any advice helps... love your videos! Thanks so much!

    Is balancing vocal registers something that allows for a good transition (as opposed to a break) from chest to head voice? I know how to balance chest and head voice into a good & powerful mixed voice and based on that am wondering if that allows a better transition.

    • @kingwillie206
      @kingwillie206 4 года назад

      Yes, and that means you are doing what she is describing whether you know it or not. You will find that the higher the larynx, the more nasal, so it also means that you have a stable larynx when singing as opposed to it shooting up when trying to transition. Does that make sense?

    • @MadMusician
      @MadMusician 4 года назад

      This does make sense. I might have a suspecting reason for this problem after I say that problem: even when I transition from chest to mix to head I VERY RARELY am able to go to head without any amount of flipping/cracking. I feel like my age might be why it's so hard. I'm assuming for most people that use mixed voice have very little trouble smoothly transitioning for chest to mix to head. But even after singing with a mixed voice about a year I still can't keep from flipping, which is why I feel like it's my age interfering (I'm 18 yo btw). I can only go from chest to mix and then I'll flip to head after that. Another thing: when I say sing with mixed voice I mean it has been successfully used for almost every song I learn. Literally it was Madeleine who showed how it feels to belt in her videos titled "How to Belt High Notes" and "How to Develop a Good Singing Belt" (kept what that felt like in my head) and just started to automatically apply it to songs (most of them DEFINITELY would require it). Since then it's literally become second nature. If you don't like me explaining this, it's because I have never been able to share my vocal journey to someone who actually cares as much as I do. My mother is the only music person and her strength in music is only instruments, very little about the voice aside from the basics. She's never even heard of a mixed voice until I mentioned it to her. I'll stop, this is becoming too long of a response.

    I notice you call the modal voice "in speech" what about that more colorful layer of the voice? what is that called?? people say chest also yeah sure but I notice there's a more colored part of the voice followed by the nasal part like what you did in the "I said no" exercise

  • @matimoi
    @matimoi 3 года назад +1

    I can't help going into head voice at some point (with lots of twang). What am I doing wrong? (I'm a girl btw). Either that or I'll push my chest voice up and latter I flip into head voice anyway.

    • @Me-ec1qj
      @Me-ec1qj 3 года назад

      Me
      I had this exact issue for years. I only sang in mixed or head voice and would use twang in those registers which gave a very beegees like sound especially in mixed voice. I finally realized years later I had no chest voice developed. You likely need to work on chest voice if you have that weird tone coming in from mixed voice. I think mixed voice for some people can only have so much vocal pressure before it’s time for chest to come in

    The balance is the mix?

    • @kingwillie206
      @kingwillie206 4 года назад

      Yes! It is all interrelated. A stable larynx will help with transitions. You will notice that a bad transition will occur when the larynx shoots up and causes too much nasality. Easing the larynx up will take from chest to mix to head.

  • @ailishbethd4033
    @ailishbethd4033 4 года назад

    If I do this exercise at home the neighbours will definitely call the police, lol. I used to blend registers seamlessly, but now that I am nearing 60 I have more of a break. I think it has to do with structural changes in the nasal cavity as we age. Sadly it does happen😞.
