LOL You both are so cute together and so fun to watch. Klee as the Camera Man-Wo and her "shiny object syndrome" moments had me laughing all through this video. Please don't ever stop making videos. Your care and respect for all of your viewers as artists comes through loud and clear and is appreciated more than you will ever fully realize. Watching your videos is helping me get over my grief. This past holiday season, I lost my cousin. Then New Years Eve my SO and I spent the night on the floor comforting our dying fur baby. I have been so wracked with grief that I haven't been able to touch a bottle of paint this year. Which is doubly depressing since I want to become a full-time self-supported artist and leave the hell drama called work for good. Like I said, your videos are helping. Especially the "Just Do It" video you released after your own loss. Much love to you both and wishing you both continued success in all your endeavors.

I'm 19 right now and graduating high school, and I gotta say...when someone asks "where do you want to be in 10 years?" I think I may just show them this video.
Is it just me, or are super pristine art studios kind of depressing? THESE are my favorite kind of studios; studios where you can see the passion just by looking around. The overflowing brush boxes, the writing on the walls, the artwork everywhere; You can just TELL "this guy really loves art!"
Also p.s. you and the woman speaking in the background (the camera man wo) are extremely likable people. Thanks for all the fantastic ideas! (even though I'm currently residing in a tiny bedroom in my mothers condo haha)

I saw a sewing studio with cubes beneath a large, long table. Each cube contained a portable basket of materials and supplies. The walls displayed images of their work. It was nice and neat, spacious and inspirational.

I store supplies and tools in a tall bureau next to my work space. It's very handy and it doesn't take up a lot of floor space. For inspiration, I frequently change the display on top of it.
Old bureaus are easy to find at yard sales and thrift stores.

For beads and bracelets, I bought several sets of 3 cardboard drawers. They're identical. All the drawers are interchangeable. They can be transported to where I want to work. The very top of the drawers is flat and it can be used as work space.

For inspiration, I frequently change the images on my walls as well as the displays on my window sills and bureaus. I also display on narrow shelves that are situated at the top of my windows. Once everything becomes dusty, I wash it, put it away and take out something new.

I don't buy excessive art supplies. I look at them and think about it. Over time, I realize I can go without or realize I can modify what I already have or I can find it cheaper somewhere else if I really can't go without it. Taking time to research supplies saves a lot of money in the long run, especially if you're addicted to buying them.

This video took me by surprise. I didn't realize your studio was your living room. I am currently in the process of making my entire living room into studio space. In fact, I "should" be painting the ceiling right now! I was/am very hesitant about doing this but now I feel much better about it. Great tip about lining the walls and floor with plastic!! Also, using the hallway to store finished work as opposed to the basement. I live alone so all these things are possible. Thank you so much for this video. It has freed me. One more thing...you and Klee are so adorable. You make me grin, chuckle, and lol with each video.

Those tupperware containers are the best pallets!! I like to get those giant pallets of cookies from the grocery stores, give away the cookies and use the big container as a covered pallet too. Also another amazing pallet idea that I've just discovered is silicone baking things. The dried paint peels right off.

  • @dianer8881
    @dianer8881 5 лет назад +2

If you want to work on several projects at a time, find a place to store each one. Having them all at once may divert your ability to concentrate on the one at hand.
With paintings, create a shelving unit where each painting can be placed to dry. With crafts, place them on trays and store them on a shelving unit until you've had more time to be inspired.
This leaves more floor space to move around, especially if a room needs to function as something other than a studio.
A closet with multiple shelves works well, because it provides a space where no one will tamper with your work.

I love you guys! Definitely organized chaos happening. I know that I’ve panicked when I sold a piece online and couldn’t find my painting to mail. Also ,thanks for the pallet storage tip on saving paint. I also have the problem with always needing more art supplies. Be careful; I’m pretty sure that the endless string of arm lamps is a fire hazard.

Because I am very much like YOU in that I am the most unorganized person, so it’s really informative & nice to see that well, first I’m not alone, & 2nd I have a partner who’s the complete opposite as well, & 3rd I now have some great tips for maximizing my space. I have made my home my studio as well, except yours looks pretty spacious compared to mine, I’m in a 2bed apt, one day I’ll be there at your level, keep inspiring!! You & Klee make the best team I love it!!! 💕

I bought several large, rectangular plastic containers with white covers. If the containers are not being used for storage, I invert the covers and use them as work trays. They're easy to carry around to where I want to work.
I also store all my finished jewelry on the inverted trays. I stack them and store them away until it's time for the jewelry to go to the consignment shops. I rotate my inventory at several stores every Spring and Fall.

  • @dianer8881
    @dianer8881 5 лет назад +1

I sell crocheted purses and jewelry. My entire studio is portable. I store my materials and finished products in white stackable file boxes as well as several sets of stackable cardboard drawers. I organize by colors of the rainbow, such as red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, brown and white. I also organize by Spring and Fall, such as light colors for the Spring and dark colors for the Fall. To remember where everything is, I keep a chart on my clipboard.
This makes it easy to transport everything to where I want to work.

The best thing that worked for me was categories: all pencils together, all acrylic paints, all glues, sealers, canvases, watercolor paper, palettes, Plein air supplies etc. It let me see what I already have, and stuff goes back to that spot. This worked for home repair/garage stuff too. All paint, brushes tools for house, together. Tools in tool box. Giving thing a home to go back too worked:)My computer desk/office/bill paying place.

I moved house Nov 18. The movers were stunned that my 10 X 12ft art shed had more boxes of Stuff than the rest of the house. I've finally moved after staying with family and hopefully soon my new art shed will be ready, former garage 32 X 7.5 ft yay! Over s year since I've been able to paint. I miss it. So I've been looking for storage ideas. Like you I love to collect things I think I'll use, and until seeing your studio was wondering why I can't keep mine like other artists, pristine, perfect lights, everything tidy etc. I feel better now I've seen someone else has lots of maybe/just in case items.
And what use when I type in art storage are the little boxes that maybe hold s dozen pots of deco art size, the ones about four inches tall. I do have lots of them but I also have big tins and litre bottles paint and mediums, resins, kilo blocks of wax, huge canvasses. Storage seems to be aimed at the people who have s tiny amount of art stuff. I just want to ( try to) keep my big art stuff as tidy. Without spending money I don't have ;-)
Do you have collections of broken glass, sand, straw, feathers, pretty stones, shredded paper, string, pine cones and dried leaves, things that you might possibly need one day?? I did have a big cull pre move but still have loads of oddments.

Entertaining and very helpful. I just starting painting and I have fallen into the trap of being frustrated with the space and then having that take my 'superpower' of wanting to create away. I got some organizer drawers and a couple of easels but I haven't found a place that I can get good light and workable space together because it clutters up a 9 x 13 foot room. Thanks to your video, I am going to not worry about organizing anymore! I am going to put the easel where I can use the lights and I don't care if it looks 'tidy'. Tidy is overrated! I loved seeing where you both create! Amazing. Thank you for sharing your space.

Fun video. Love the upside container for your paint. I will definitely use that tip. I waste a lot of paint. Organizing can be frustrating but once you find what works, creating seems easier. Especially if you're limited for space. My area is only 10 x 5, since my apt is only 500 sq ft. Tiny but I use every inch. Surprisingly, it works, but my apt get messy when I am creating and due to chronic pain I reserve my energy to creating not cleaning. Some days it looks like a bomb went off. Lol
Your studio looks amazing in comparsion. Thanks again.

Portable and collapsible work areas may make it easier to create a more versatile studio. Such as collapsible tables, furniture, shelving, storage boxes, etc. If you don't need it, fold it up and store it away. This provides more work space. Recreate a new work space as needed.

I get Ceramics Monthly, a magazine, and they always do spotlights on at least one artist or more with studio photos, and the studios are always always always spectacularly clean and minimalist, and it blows my mind that anyone can create in such spaces. I keep thinking they must have a commercial cleaning crew that goes thru the artists studios to scrub away every bit of clay, dust, paint, glaze, etc. I sometimes think I can only create in chaos, because my space is always messy. I like to share pics of how messy my studio gets just so people can get to know me thru my space.

You mentioned plastic on the walls and floors? Tell us again why? My art studio (still growing and collecting) is in my basement and I do get paint on the walls sometimes by accident. So should I put plastic on them? and the floor....we have animals, a cat and dog and I just know I am going to have a painting that is hairy one day. Then again, it might turn out to be my best work yet, hair and all like it was meant to be. I don't have a website yet, but I am on fb and Instagram as Alisa's Creations. Thanks so much. See, this is the kind of studio that I love, I'm sorta looking for ideas on how to organize my own but all I keep seeing on RUclips are the "studio" tours where it looks like Martha Stewart lives there. What do they decorate in those fancy spaces -- cupcakes? I like your easel wedged inbetween/under some shelving units, I have something like that in my laundry room which can fit an expanding table (which can be quickly turned into an easel as well as expand for bigger projects), and it's wanting to come live in my studio. It's got weird legs though and I need to figure out how to give it wheels.

I don't have a huge amount of time to create, but I think about it fairly constantly. If you would be interested in checking out some of my art I have a very unorganized Facebook page for my stuff at Ladena Rae Creations. I don't even know if this link will take you to my webtoon or to my webtoon's control panel. If it's my dashboard, please don't change anything. LOL. I'm too disorganized, but thank you because this was helpful. It reminds me that I can't be organized the way other people are - family and friends whose eyes going all over the place make me paranoid. I might just be mental. This organization thing really does torture me. Ignore the moldy bowl of pasta in the corner of the kitchen already! People come into my studio (my house) and when they see my art, they look at it and don't say anything or even have a reaction. Does that happen to anyone else? What the hell is that? If I get any comments, it's on my disorganized studio (house). If I ask what they think of my art, they act like I'm putting them on the spot, and then they still can't even think of one decent thing to say. omg. I might just be mental, but people drive me insane.
Thank you. I loved this video.

Whew! I thought my studio, which resembles the aftermath of an F4 tornado, was a rare occurrence. I agree, creating art is a messy endeavor.

I don't have a studio besides a piece of the couch and a corner of the living room table :D The rest is spread throughout the hosue. If I did have a room, it would be messy. I have a hard time believing the pristine studio photos. Either they don't do art there or they don't do art, or maybe they're weirdly neat when making art.

You guys are hilarious. Yes, these other POSER artists with the clean area studios. Really??? LOL Do you even paint bro? Although I have to say my old studio was a studio/gallery, so you had to break everything down and make it a gallery look each time. THAT was a pain in the ass. No way I would do it in a studio/studio.

Helpful entertaining morals video. Too much stuff drives me crazy. I've found that I work better with minimal materials. Primary colors, a few brushes and so on.
