Local hospitals have tons of wall space to fill! Sometimes they even have an art curator to contact. I also show some seasonal art at local orchards as part of a "gift shop", but that depends on the kind of art you do too.

I have live painted at a few local breweries and have work hanging there. Also, a very cool ice cream shop had my work for a bit.

Another place to consider is Doctor's offices/waiting rooms. I was in a doctor's waiting room a little while ago and there was some nice artwork on the walls.

I used to sell at flea markets, loved it, it was great experience. I tried online stores it does not work so much. Now I am on fb it kinda works. Now I will try this restaurant things. I used to call them and offer them to buy my art got rejected, so I now I will simply offer them to show it with price tag, that tip was helpful, thanks. And i hate these arrogant art gallery workers that make that face (like oh no,here it comes again) when u just simply say them that u are an artist:(((

I am going to try hospitals the hospitals here are massive.as well as the smaller ones. The hospitals also do solo exhibitions to showcase new artists.

Years ago we had a movie theater that had an area where they put up mini walls and had an open artist gallery. It was done in the open lobby. It was very 60s art, it was cool, and felt very chic.
Well, that was back in the day when movie houses were fun to go to, a real event. The architecture of the places alone just made you feel special to be there.
In Minnesota (Uptown) we had a cool place where they projected moving clouds on the ceiling while you watched the movie,.... Who's going to watch the ceiling, when you paid to see the movie,... But that's just what I mean,... That's attention to the extra details that we don't have anymore. Some of the places had stuff like antiqued flower carpet, ornate staircases, designer chairs in the lobby for waiting for someone in the bathroom.... Even the bathrooms were special... Oh, those were the days.🤗😄

I have seen artists show their work at "open houses" put on by realtors. You could contact builders and your local real estate association to ask about possibly hanging your art any of their open houses.

I know the public library in my town lets you show your art for free for a set time. They pretty much accept everyone, but there is a line so you might be a few months or so out. If youre still in the panhandle its crestview.

I second Farmers Martkets. I would caution artists not to expect regular sales because most folks are there to buy produce. Price points are also lower than at a gallery or an arts and craft fair. For me, it's been a great way to get validation for my work.

awesome! I feel so confirmed about selling at the local flea market as a first step. I was thinking doctors, dentists or thrift stores, but that means I'd have to convince someone else about my work. Better to be able to just rent a cheap table at a flea market!

I just love your process and diligence. so inspired. For starters, I'm going to do the Farmer's Markets and more cafes and shoot for restaurants too. I’m watching this a little late, but I have a question about rejection. Be it due to a late entry, lack of appropriate space, or a juried process that the administrators just don’t connect with your art, how exactly do you go about handling this? Do you ask what about your work doesn’t jive with their vibe? Maybe attend the show as a visitor to see for yourself? And if you have loose leaf drawings, how do you go about presenting those items for sale, rather than just loose papers? I’m not a huge fan of framing, bit I could see how this may be beneficial, or attaching them to a wood block or a canvas somehow?

Great video. Very informative. Then again, all your videos are!
I've done a few local coffee shops and breweries with no succes yet but I have had decent success at a monthly Art Walk.
My first "big" art fair (they claim more than 25k visitors each year) is in Ocala, FL this October and then I'm showing again in the St. Augustine art festival Nov 30/Dec 1.
After gauging my success or lack of and seeing what works and what doesn't, I'd like to consider more of this type of art fair. You mentioned online reviews by artists. I've done a little searching but haven't been able to find much. Is there a particular site that houses these reviews? Is there an "Angies List" for art fairs?
Thanks again for all these great videos and your podcast! Keep up the great work!

As someone wanting to work at my artwork and maybe boost my confidence with some sales in the future, I really appreciated this!! I was recently sketching in a cafe and the owner approached me to ask if I ever did anything for shops - I turned her down initially but now I may reconsider!! How do you deal with the feeling of "my art isn't good enough" though?

    • @wallsart1696
      @wallsart1696 5 лет назад +3

I will tell you this I know lots of artists who make terrible art but earn a lot of money by selling their shitty paintings. And I know people with great talent but they can not sell any painting at all. So it is all about entrepreneurship. If you wanna do it then just do it. It is all about hard work and never give up on ur dreams.
