Another point I would like to say is never give up on promoting your show, my wife and I was talking to someone the day before the show closed and we invited them to the show . One hour before the show closed these people brought one of my wife's paintings. So no matter how many sales you have had or if u have not sold one painting. Stay positive and keep promoting. I even sold two more photos as we were packing up . Enjoy you amazing artist .
I think shows are about networking and getting out of the studio and shining your light. No one knows what can become of getting out of your comfort zone of the studio. Sometimes while we think the main goal would be sales, sometimes it’s about making a connection you wouldn’t otherwise have made that ends up paying off big time. Energy works in mysterious ways.
Yes letting more people know you and your art exists, and who you are, what you’re about, what excites you and find out their passions and what excites them . Mutual excitement. They may not buy but years later might say I remember seeing this artists show, “oh really do they have a website or RUclips ? “ and word of mouth spreads , community grows .
Wow why am I just seeing this? . Number one gives me hope ,to know we are in the process of doing Art even though I ' ve ' y created any art yet. I did same thing number 2 in an art competition a photographer bid my work to buy , but I refuse to sell , mainly because It was my first work here in Spain . I wanted It to stay as "artist collection" Then later looking back, I said to myself you should ve sold it to him. Thank you for all the tips Rafi. You earned a friend congratulations brother.
It cracks me up how many ppl seem to not know that the “girl in the back” is ur wife. Hey girl in the back...👋🏼😂😂😂 They are right about Klee being funny though, and thats all that matters!♥️ I guess 😏😂👍
Your videos are the only ones I've found to be really helpful. They have given me ideas that I had never heard or thought of for my next art show. Seriously, thank you and keep up the good work.
I'm a digital artist who likes to design characters for people and the part about people not buying your art is so true. Like , I use a very simple art program to draw, and I feel that because people know this that they feel like my art isn't worth their money. Though I have sold alot of designs and done some custom commissions, but they were all really cheap, and people stopped buying when I brought my prices up. But watching videos like this helps keep me motivated to make art, so thank you for creating this :) Plus, every now and again I will get a nice comment on my designs, so that also helps get my spirits back up.
LOL Funny video Rafi! Does your wife always talk from over your shoulder?? lol It certainly pays to have a sense of humor while being an artist, that's for sure! Even in most situations other than art! Thanks for the tips! Yes, artists don't need to or shouldn't go the way of famous Italian painter Modigliani who was an alcoholic and drug addict! In fact, he and his friends other Bohemians went by a little guide book they kept in their pockets that extolled the virtues of using substances i.e. drugs/alcohol like their green Absinthe they all drank during the Bohemian days in Paris in the late 19th century/early 20th centuries! Sadly, his girlfriend and mother of his child jumped out a window to her suicide the day after he died at age 35! Lethal substances might make you feel good in the short time, but in the long time, it consumes even one's art and all people should remember that it only compounds one's problems instead of helping them, more of a hindrance than a help! And costly as well esp these days! Artists need to keep their wits about them! And remember Van Gogh who used to eat his paint and drink turpentine only sold one painting in his lifetime to his brother Theo, an art dealer! There are great documentaries and movies about VanGogh, "Lust for Life" with the late great Kirk Douglas, Michael Douglas's dad, a Hollywood icon! Watch the great film, "Modigliani" with actor Andy Garcia as Modigliani, great film! Modigliani's rival was Picasso who was also the rival of Henri Matisse whose work I love! .Also, "BIG Eyes", another great film about American painter Margaret Keene who recently passed away! I could relate to that in many ways i.e. her toxic dysfunctional malignant narc/sociopathic husband! She had also been co-dependent! Thanks for more awesome tips! Last outdoor art show I was in I was afraid my paintings were going to melt from the hot midday sun like the famous scene from a hit Twilight Zone episode, "The Midnight Sun"! lol
Don't get bummed cause things aren't selling. That helped more than you know. People are always giving me complements but they don't buy. Very frustrating.
One tip-you may not sell but you may get a commission because someone liked your style but nobody did the image what they as customers want. (That has happened to me a few times
I was invited to participate at an Art Market (?) at a local brewery in Cleveland in April. I’ve spent so much already on shit to use to display my art. I have this unrealistic (I KNOW) idea about how it’s going to look and go. They can’t tell me if it will be outside or inside, just that I get 8x8 foot space. Ugh! Getting drunk might be my ONLY option at some point. Thanks for the tips, Rafi.
I have enjoyed your videos. I have always been creative but never really painted on canvas until now. Now in my early 50s I got past my fear and decided to trust my instincts.
Really great advice. I went to an art festival and one of my all time favorite artists was there and he was a complete jerk and so stern. Yeah i broke up with him that day and refuse to buy his art since. Sad. I hope he watches this video!
I'm inspired!! I'm ways from a solid platform pertaining to art. I'm working on the process of becoming an active artist. This is the year I want to establish a foundation for art. 🤞🏾🤞🏾
Just found your channel...Omg you and your minion (Cle?) are SOOOO funny together! Hope I get a chance to visit one of your exhibitions. I love painting but not sure how to get my work out there. You've really provided some great information. Thank you.
I just found your videos but I love them! Thank you for all the great tips! I am doing my first art show, well sort of art show; it’s a spiritual Catharsis art show, so no selling but it will give me the experience of having a tent and setting up and talking to people. Thanks!!!
This was a very helpful video. I am an animator that also paints and does a lot of figure drawing. I have been to a few art shows displaying my work and I saw many people like how you described. I hope one day to have an animated exhibition or even my painting shown at galleries but I need to build up my brand. Thanks for uploading!!!
We have taken our products to trade shows, not for sales but for exposure. All of our sales are generated in the following weeks and are accompanied by further exposure of different products that we have. Trade shows or in this case, art shows are ALWAYS successful because that is what they are... SHOWS. Enjoy the social aspects and have fun, this will translate into success.
Thank you for the advice.. I´m having an exhibition next week.. I already have IBS over the stress in organizing it, I run a class in southern Spain and decided it would be good to show mine and the classes´work in an art centre, the idea was good, I still have loads to do but have decided to "chill" , listening to you has helped a great deal.. thanks x
Don't get drunk that's a really hard thing for me to do. luckily I post my art online so i'm not talking to people directly, ironically i'm having a bit of fortified wine while watching this.
Love your videos they are definitely honest real ! I had a mini exhibition last year in a bar it was horrible it was set up for only one night no one introduced me , I sat there and stared at especially the older people looked at me weird there were two people that came over to talk to me they saw my event on Facebook but even that was kind of sad end never ended up in anything 😖! I was told by other artists that didn’t have any support with them for this art night they felt the same way as I did !! I was Approached by a future coffee shop owner she would like to have some of my art displayed at her future location I hope that will pan out at least somebody likes my stuff LOL
Hey man... how much time each week do you devote to making vids? Apart from filming, editing and uploading what other considerations are there? Plus can they bring in revenue and is important to shave my legs prior to filming? Hmmmm?
Watching the past solo show videos and inspired -just most venues cost. The one that doesn’t cost said yes but then couldn’t get a date confirmed 😅 I don’t get how artists set up on the day with the private view looming. I’m giving myself two days because I too sweat; I need to have it all hung the day before the private view 😅🥰 I’m happy for my art to sell on the ground - this is my private show yes I know there is no art it sold while setting up 😅 Talk to you about solo show possibilities soon, I just fear I’ll spend money setting it up and while be great for being part of the art world it is a risk . I don’t drink being ex alcoholic, so I wouldn’t serve at the show as I don’t like drunk people putting their drinks on top of my prints (it’s happened 🤦🏻♂️) I mean that was at craft fair stall table so on walls should be fine . Hoping people still arrive if have clever smoothies no alcohol - would want something else to entice like a band . If friends happy to do for a % of the sales and risk of free . If only I could play music myself! The private view honestly is the thing that’s stopped me.
I went to this really big art show and as I stepped into this guys booth he walked up to me grabbed my hands in his and said please please buy something.....
What do you say when people get into a long story about how thier son, neice, grandaughter, sister, cousin etc is a great artist and never went to art school talk? They usually dont have pictures of the art when I ask either. Especially when they ignore your work, dont talk to you about your work at all it feels like a subtle put down and they hog up your spot, when you could be talking to a buyer instead?
very cool. Good job ,You have been right onm I be a artist for over 40 years a I do a art work, that people can under stand, I paint backwards in time, I will show you soon?

Question: How do you deal with packaging art at shows? What do you put the art into? Also, since you mentioned that you wanted to see our art works, my social media pages (twitter, instagram, facebook) are @illcebran.
I sell stuff at furry conventions, and if there's anything furries like more than art, it's booze. After partying on Saturday night I kept falling asleep sitting up at my table the next day. Oof.
Wifey needs to be in all videos. Do not deny her chocolate moments! The two of you make these videos greatly enjoyable.

I did a wine festival once, and it was one of the worst shows of my early career.

Chocolate comes from a bean, therefore it is a vegetable so it's a vegetarian meal.

Pricing is in constant change as you keep growing. Don’t overthink what someone would pay, just what you think is fair for you.
Rafi......what should I draw?
Rafi.........thanks for the videos. How do you charge on the spot ? Check.........app........which one ?
I'm questioning why your videos have so little views >:0
Everyone has to start somewhere to grow an audience. This guy is great.

Klee needs to be mic'd.
Raffi .. i need a video on how to photograph art.. aswell as keeping up with "works". Portfolio info maybe?
chocolate is TOTALLY a meal. Just ask my wife. I eat chocolate bars like that all the time. LOL
Chocolate IS TOO a meal!!!
Sooo funny!
What do you recommend for a place to show work? I use to do facebook, but I had a farmville habit and had to give it up. So it has been 4 or 5 years since I've posted there. I also get a lot of weird stuff there. facebook.com/john.gronning.5 the most recent image is a painting of Iris's that I did maybe 2 years ago. I also put this on Etsy, but I really did not like how Etsy seemed to be nickle and dimming me. Charges for a post, charge for advertising.
