I feel like an under-achiever; I have a 3 Must-Do's list. Anything beyond that I consider bonus. They all fit, in turn, into my 3 major principles: 1. Make Art. 2. Show it to people. 3. Be Nice!
Not better, just different. I'm really struggling with tech. I have to shoot my vids in one take because I have no ability or aptitude for editing!! Social media is cool, but feels like trying to baptize a cat and my webpage may as well be some sort of voo-doo!! LOL!!! I'm blessed that every once in a while my son takes pity on me and helps out! Thank you, as always, Rafi for your insights!!
"Social media feels like trying to baptize a cat" Awesome. I have not even started working on this aspect and it does look like voo-doo or some other forbidden knowledge to me right now also. Thank you for the laugh and great visual image.
1:18 less so now, I walk my dog, I walk other people’s dogs, I sketchbook, I sleep, I paint , I email shows . If the art becomes full time, I paint, I email, I market and craft fairs, I hermit and walk my dog…most of the excitement is in my mind …..I think I’ll be this flurry of dance but then I watch the footage back and I’m just painting and quite slowly too 😂
For the last 18 years, I have narrowed down my work schedule to about 109 days a year, about 55 work days in my studio 6 to 7 hours in the morning welding my art, Day starts about 5am with a coffee. Couple of hours off and then around 3pm I put in another 6 or 7 hours of prep work for the morning. About 29 days doing art shows ( I go a day early to set up) Mondays are as I call them" Moandays" after the shows and are for banking , running errands, art supplies and house supplies for a week, that is ten Mondays. The remaining 12 to 16 days are for odd and ends. I spend the rest of the year on holiday and live in my house with my family in Madagascar. And now I am learning youtube, filming. and editing and photography 😀.
Oh my gosh you two are even more adorable than I imagine! Thank you for sharing a glimpse into your life. What an amazing partnership! You help each other so much.
I like to do all of my paperwork in the morning while my mind is fresh. From noon until midnight, I create. Periodically, I fit in a few chores, which gives me a break to refresh my mind. I just keep a steady pace throughout the day.
I don't blog or make videos. However, I do research periodically. I only consign. I rotate my merchandise in several different stores every Spring and Fall. No real deadlines. No shows. No website. No orders. No need to interact with customers. This gives me more time to create. True hermit.
Nice. I think I'll use my existing social media accounts to form relationships and get people interested, but I really like the idea of just making art and dropping it off at a store for them to sell for me
@@spooniesarah I sell crocheted purses and jewelry at convenience stores, consignment shops, craft stores, friends take them to craft shows, one store takes them to craft shows. As long as you have the extra inventory, just keep asking around. Look for a wealthy community and somewhere where there are a lot of people, such as a factory, restaurant, busy highway, tourist area, etc.
@@dianer8881 i know of some places locally that consign, and restaurants that show art from local artists. One consignment shop doesn't charge a fee; the "board" curates what's offered in the shop to make sure there's variety, but once an artist has theirs approved, they just have to work the cash register 12 hours a month. The artist receives 100% of their profit.
I've watched 3 videos before this and this is first time I actually saw your work. You're good. You should showcase 1 pc of your work each video. I would love to buy a piece, but I live on a fixed budget. Nice to dream though. Much love & success.
I like your style of giving advice. "This is what I do, why I do it, you don't have to do the same thing, but I recommend this particular bit of advice..."
Also, yeah "a day in the life of an artist" is boring, but we NEED to know that being an artist isn't super exciting. And...a super boring day is often very attractive to creatives. how about 10 drawings a day for one of the things on the critical 6 list?
I'm so bad at time management😰
If you could do a video to help us know what to post on social media if we don't have any new art pieces done in awhile. You suggest posting at least once a day on social media. If you only paint part time and you don't have any finished artwork to post can you help us out on what to post to keep a following going? And maybe you can't help because you ARE a full-time artist and have plenty to post on social media. But it never hurts to ask right? 😀
Is there a dragon on that canvas behind you?!
Rafi Was Here Studios it needs a dragon :p
You live near 2 AF bases and a naval base...what do you expect? :p
