Boston Drop Cookies - 2/3 cup shortening ( I would use butter or lard personally) 2/3 cup sugar, 2 eggs, 1- 1/2 cups of flour, 1/2 tsp. salt, 1/2 tsp baking powder, 1 tsp vanilla. Cream sugar and shortening, add eggs and beat. Add flour, salt, & baking powder sifted together, add vanilla. That's it. No time or temp. Just as I found it in the book. So I would guess at 350 for 10-12 min. play around with the recipe and watch the cookies so they don't brown. ❤❤❤

The Sunday Dinners is one of my favorites too, I've had if for years. I love the drawings, especially the June wedding. I pulled it out to see what treasures were inside, found a recipe sheet for Minute Tapioca from 1926 and a Betty Crocker menu for 'wartime meals'.

One of my favourite things to find in old cookbooks is snippets cut from old magazines of recipes , old postcards or handwritten recipes all used as bookmarks . That and notes written right on the cookbook pages about any alterations they made to each recipe. I feel like they're passing their knowledge on to me. Diary of an Edwardian lady is one of my favourites too . Have you seen The wonderland of nature by Nuri Mass ? It's Aussie but maybe you've got something similar. It's supposed to be a child's teaching book but it's just Beautiful, drawing, learning about flora and fauna and a journal too . There's matching curriculum for it now. My little one will do it next year with me. Such a fantastic thing to do together. I love finding books that I enjoy along with my children. Those tiny curtains look like they were made for your kitchen windows , very special. D looks so pretty in her dress . Bows on Sleeves are just beautiful. Thank you for sharing lovelies ❤❤

Lovely as usual! You and I would have a hard time at the thrift store together because we would go after the same things! I love when a hand written recipe falls out of a cookbook I’ve thrifted. Love all the books! I have Tasha Tudors Family Cookbook and The Private World of Tasha Tudor. 💕 Persuasion is also my favorite of all JA. I have the CD and watch it at least once a year. And, I will never pass up old linens! I’ve tried to clean out my linen closet and get rid of stuff I don’t use or haven’t used in a long time but I always close the door leaving it exactly like I found it because I CAN’T part with anything! 🤦🏻‍♀️ Oh well. :)

As I was setting out the jelly for the orioles this morning you popped into my head and I was wondering if you are healing and doing better after your accident. I’ve thought of you many times after your announcement as I myself have been doing a great deal of driving back and forth to the hospital in Cadillac with my husbands health issues. Folks on the road could use a little slow living, slow breathing and slow speeding lessons I’ve come to realize. But since I’m slow everything all the fast paced living of every kind just screams “Calgon, take me away”! But Hunny is home now so hopefully I won’t need to do quite so much driving and I can stay cozied up on our little plot on the river and CHILL with all God has given us to appreciate. I will continue to think of you and your family and pray for your full recovery and one day we will have another nice RUclips visit. I miss your visits and all you share so do take good care of yourself so that slow living good things will come our way again!!!:):):)

I love it when you share book recommendations! I’ve added a few from today’s video to my “want to read” list. “Persuasion” is my favorite Jane Austen novel, too! And it’s been far too long since I’ve read a book by Georgette Heyer, I have really enjoy them in the past. I agree that Regency era books are lovely in spring time, I’ve been enjoying books by Julie Klassen. I just finished “A Castaway in Cornwall”, it was a fun read! I’ve also been enjoying historical fiction set during WWII (the Wings of Glory series by Sarah Sundin), and a non fiction “Dutch Girl: Audrey Hepburn and World War II”.

I have the same Tasha Tudor book and several of the others. Your chicken salad looks so good. It is going to snow again tomorrow. I am not looking forward to more snow. Our magnolias and daffodils are in bloom. It snowed on and off this past week. It is all green grass here so it will be up by you soon. I have a friend in upper lower MI and we talked on the phone today. Our states (WI and MI) just have not seen enough sunny days and blue skies so we are hoping that changes soon. I went thrifting today, but only picked up gym shoes, leggings and a cookbook (Nourishing Traditions). The cookbook is for a baby shower gift. I am not sure what I read in spring. It used to be garden books and cookbooks. This year foraging is of more interest as is herbal medicine so I may spend time reading those type books. I foraged a lot as a teen in northern WI.

Thank you for reminding me about the Country Diary of an Edwardian Lady! I bought it a while ago when Tarnished Treasures mentioned it. It's been sitting on a shelf, neglected. Tsk! Such a lovely book! I love all your book selections. Thanks for your calming, inspirational videos that remind me 'it's the little things' that make moments special. Old tablecloths, comforting, healing foods and beautiful art and books!

Hi Abbey-Jo I recently came across your RUclips site by accident and I would just like to say how much I love the videos you post about your lifestyle, home and family, you come across with such warmth and as I was a stay at home mum when my children were young I just think your videos show how much value there is in being a homemaker. I live in the north east of England but I just love to hear about and find it so interesting to learn about your life in America. I really enjoyed looking at your book choices, I used to read Georgette Heyer's books when I was in my late teens (a long time ago now) and had forgotten how much I used to enjoy them. I wonder if you have heard of a book called ' A View from a Sketchbook' by Marjolein Bastin, she is a Dutch illustrator and author however this particular book follows the seasons in both Missouri and Holland, as far as I am aware she still spends her time between living in America and Holland. Her drawings are just so beautiful and detailed and I just love dipping in and out of this book. I lived in Holland for 9 years in the 1980s and it was whilst living there I discovered her drawings which used to appear in a Dutch magazine called Libelle. Another book I think you may enjoy, although definitely not for this time of year, is by an English food writer called Nigel Slater who has written a beautiful book called ' The Christmas Chronicles' this is a wonderful book that certainly gets you in the mood for the festive season with some lovely recipes, but it is a more than just a recipe book it is of the spirit of Christmas and its traditions around the places he has travelled to, the book has the most glorious photographs. Sorry for the long post and I look forward to viewing more of your videos. x
