When I went to England, some people were being total dicks to them. I said something to the people and it turns out they couldn’t speak English but they stopped. As I was walking by a royal soldier on horseback said “cheers” to me and nodded his head slightly.
Why can’t people just look, be respectful and move on?
Because clearly they want to be whacked or stabbed by the Guards

Ha, Matsimus!
Matsimus yeah although the line about the rifles not being loaded is misleading, that's not always the case
1IbramGaunt That's actually correct. All of the ceremonial soldiers weapons are actually unloaded, the other troops who are not on guard are sat around with combat equipment next to them as a QRF or quick reaction force to actually deal with any threat. These guys are alerted by an alarm button inside the hut of which ceremonial troops stand in/out of. Also there are Metropolitan Police officers almost constantly on patrol around the palace.

3:50 the queens guard rifles are loaded when the prime minister put the terrorist threat levels past a certain point.
It would be impossible for the rifles to fire anything because they're all DP rifles (DP = Drill Purpose). The only difference between a regular rifle and a drill purpose rifle is that the DPs literally have concrete in their barrel to stop them from firing. So good luck shooting any terrorists with those.
Chief Whip they don’t use DP unless on parade, while on sentry the guns are real and the magazines are loaded but there won’t be a bullet in the chamber. They are more ceremonial now as police and CCTV have taken over the front line protection but they are still the last line of defence.
It also when the queen says as she is head of mod you cant disobey her.
Isnt it not loaded and they have a mag in the jacket
Pure radio rifles will always be reddy to fire with a max of about 20 or 30 rounds with safty on when not firing
when the queen is in residence they have loaded rifles as part of royal protocol, i hate how everyone is mocking the "not loaded" comment, there not loaded during non-residence, but when her majesty Elizabeth the Second, by the Grace of God of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and of Her other Realms and Territories Queen, Head of the Commonwealth, Defender of the Faith is in residence, DO NOT PISS OFF THE ROYAL GUARD
It's good to know someone knows HM titles and has respect. There is one Monarch who duly cherishes her people.

the gun is not loaded lololololollolol
When I was stationed in Germany and we had a terrorist alert, a soldier in combats with a rifle was added to the guard but the magazine was kept in the guardroom safe so there is no way the rifles are loaded when the Queen is in residence. If you bother to look there are armed police alongside the soldiers, they carry loaded weapons. It is the duty of the police, not the armed forces, to keep law and order in the country.
No they always loaded actually.

There is really conflicting information on if the Queen/King's guard do carry loaded rifles but based on what I have read it appears to be situational as to weather or not the rifles are loaded (but not chambered)
While the Queen/King's Guard is mostly ceremonial but there still tasked with protecting the monarch and there residence.
The Queen/King's Guard also has the authorization to arrest or shoot anyone who poses a threat to the guard or the monarchs safety and well being.
Each sentry box also has a panic button so that should they need additional assistance they can push it.
Didn't knew the panic button stuff, really interesting.
Nope never loaded
James Alexander Always
Loaded, only when there’s a royal family member, also they have loaded magazines
Alright so I did some further reading into it and have some really conflicting information, some say yes the rifles do have loaded magazines others say no...
It seems to be situational but I can't find any substantial evidence that confirms one way or the other.
I will edit my comment accordingly.
@@Generik97 That is probably the intention, somewhat a state secret when they have loaded rifles or not, but your assumption that they have loaded rifles, when someone from the Royal Family is present, seems logical.
When Buckingham Palace is empty, there is "only" the building to guard and damage to a building can be repaired. Damage to a dead monarch, well, not so much...
3:50 they are loaded, 10 rounds in the magazine. However there isn't one in the chamber.
This is standard procedure in British Army guards, including the RMP (but they have 30 rounds instead of 10)
Interrogative, do they carry spare mags in case the worst happens?
@@indonesianbassbooster5167 I'm not sure, I believe they rely on the number of them to potential threats, especially when the armed police presence at the moment is pretty high
@@indonesianbassbooster5167 as i heard that if you remember that they have guard room right I heard they keep extra ammunition in the palace guard rooms also the barracks are close to the palace
@@indonesianbassbooster5167 No but they have access to it should the worse happen. It's unlikely an Army would sneak up to London without anyone noticing though... They're more for show than actual use, for a terror attack it'd be next to impossible for anyone to get even close to the palace

Point of note: The Coldstream Guards were founded in 1650, as mentioned in the video, but they were founded as part of Oliver Cromwell's "New Model Army" during the English Civil War (so they represent the English contingent of the Foot Guards).
For reference, the New Model Army was formed by the Parliamentarians (in opposition to the Royalists, who fought for King Charles I) and so the Coldstream Guards were formed in *opposition* to the British Crown. However, they did not get the name "Coldstream Guards" until later, after they had already been inducted into the British Army under the restored monarchy.
As a result of this, the modern Coldstream Guards do not wear the symbol of the crown anywhere on their uniform. While the other Regiments of Foot have crown icons on their tunic buttons, the Coldstream Guards do not; instead, they have a garter star emblem, the same as on their collar.
This is also why the Coldstream Guards are unique in being commanded by an officer of the British Army, and not by a member of the Royal Family.
Additional fun fact: The motto of the Coldstream Guards is "Nul Secondus", which means "Second to None". During ceremonial occasions, the Foot Guards are introduced in the order of their button spacing, starting with the Grenadier Guards. However, this would dictate that the Coldstream Guards come second, since they have their buttons in pairs. Instead, the Coldstream Guards are always introduced last, as a way of honouring their regimental motto.
Now that an American has entered the royal family we can begin phase 2 of the revolutionary war

*Queen gets in the way*
Aquafina Waterbottle there wouldn't be though because the places they march to and from remain the same, they have for centuries, no-one would plant a tree there in the first place. The only things that would get in their way are temporary; cars, animals and people and if they don't move their arses I'm sure you've seen online what happens :)
MAKE WAY FOR THE QUEEN'S GAURD
I'm curious, what if there was an elderly man or woman who struggle to walk in their way while they are marching? They wouldn't just walk into them, surely.

Alucard they don't tho... hey have covers over their sights so how can they fire back accurately and they would need those sight to be accurate because there are A LOT of tourists there and they wear a highly impractical uniform. And even if they were the primary defence.. then why would they have armed officers at the gate and AR vehicles patrolling the area?
it's ya boi Mozart over time the queens guard has become more ceremonial, as police and technology have expanded they have taken on the front line. Police will patrol outside as they have the jurisdiction, some of the police are armed, if u commit a crime and are not an immediate threat the guard will call the police to deal with u, using a button in there box. But they are the last line of defence, the guns are not loaded but they carry ammo, the sight cover can be easily taken off. And of course they won’t fire into a crowd, they will most likely take cover and wait for back up as they will want to minimise casualties, but if u try to force your way in they will shoot u.

Thank you for this condensed information. It is helpful.
My Grandfather served in the Guard!
WOW that's an honour to have in your family!!!!

When and where
Is there a reason why they have the name “Grenadier” guards? Like, do they have a primary role of a grenadier? Chucking grenades at the enemy?
For the last 6 years this is what I thought. Am I right?
Striker - Grenadiers used to be responsible for carrying and throwing explosives when the army had riflemen and fusiliers, back in the days of empire and gunpowder. So you're kind of right, but now it's just a name attached to a regiment.
Striker It think during the battle of Waterloo they defeated the French grenadiers and took the name as like a battle honor.
Faugh a Ballagh You’re correct. Grenadiers full name would be first of foot Grenadier guards.
So as this video is very accurate though the Coldstream are the second not first.
Eventualy the grenadiers became sort of commandos/special forces, sort of like SAS today
Tonda Je Nej no they are not. Para ain't even special forces, neither are commandos.
This is the only truly amazing video about the British Foot Guards I have ever seen. They’re obviously being traditional, so why not have a unloaded musket rather than an unloaded rifle?
Edit: It appears that, according to many replies, guards have a losded mag in their pocket. If thats the case, I understand why they shouldn’nt use muskets.
Because a musket takes two minutes to ready, rather that pulling a mag out your pocket and switching the safety off
Douglas Roempke and because the tradition IS to use whatever the standard service rifle or long-arm of the era is, before this they had SLR's and before that Lee Enfield's and so on
When the country is on high alert the rifles are loaded and they carry a poach of ammunition all the time.
