Some extra info. Did you guys notice that Brigadier John Kelburne Lawson died with a pistol in each hand? During the Battle Hong Kong, Brigadier Lawson's headquarters was surrounded at approximately 10am. He radioed to his seniors that he was "going outside to fight it out". He went into the fray with a pistol in each hand before dying. The Japanese actually gave him a military burial out of respect for his courage and allowed a chaplain to hold onto Lawson's ID bracelet as a POW before being able to return it to Lawson's family. Interesting.

One major reason why Japan saw killing, murdering, and torturing soldiers, non-combatant, and civilians was due to them not being part of the many nations that signed the Geneva Convention, therefore Japan did not view hospitals and medics as such. To the Japanese, surrender was an utter disgrace and like the Nazis, they had a sickening superiority complex that Japanese were better than any asian race in Asia.
@@Tremulousnut that is called total war. Which anytthing you can do to contribute your act in a war, with no rules or limits in how severe you want to go all out with a war, that is a total war. Thr U.S and other allied powers contributed to the whole war effort by bombing even civilian cities of the "innocence".
As a Canadian who spent two years in Hong Kong i was amazed to learn that many people in Hong Kong still hold Canadians in high regard because of the Canadian soldiers who fought to the last to defend Hong Kong. There is a MASSIVE and beautiful Cemetery and Memorial where they host Remembrance Day for us still to this day. While I’m as there many High up Chinese Officials and Steve Harper came to the Remembrance Day Ceremony there, it was actually quite emotional. They have a costal defence museum where they tell the stories of the Canadians being told to surrender but they refused and fought to the last man, crazy that this isn’t taught in Canadian schools.
The Hong Kong Museum of Coastal Defence is excellent and a must for anyone wanting to know about the battle. Visitors should also tour the Central Battery and walk down to the torpedo station on the shore to see where the Japanese crossed from Lei Yue Mun.
Please do a video about the British and the Indian Gurkhas who fought for the British commonwealth. These regiments went to most wars the UK was involved in since 1814.
So basically: Japan was that kid in school who would cheat as much as they can to win the games and no one likes to play with them I mean, shooting medics as easy targets, torturing and killing civilians, torturing and killing POW's, ignoring declarations of war

Thanks for making a video on Hong Kong. I’ve been a follower of your channel and quite surprised to see my hometown in this episode. (And the accuracy is very high too). Thanks for telling our story One thing that came to my mind though...in the video background there are a few Chinese characters one said “地鐵站” which is historically inaccurate. Servants of the invaders? Many southerners saw them as heroes that are fighting for their freedom, their lives against the communist threat in the north.

You should do a new factions video BUT on the Napoleonic wars. And if you really wanted to get a lot of content, do it instead on specific regiments. Just a suggestion
YES YOU ARE AWESOME because, in any non-European country, the Napoleonic wars is never a thing that you learn from teachers, it's only taught in places were it happened, and Napoleon is also seen as a tyrant in some countries (Britan I see you there) and it's ver important in the history of war, and Europe,
Nice to see mtr coming to Hong Kong during the War :D Thank you for your great research and artwork in the video. Fall of Hong Kong in 2019 will become a page of history.

As a Hong Konger, I am very grateful and fully appreciate the British administration in Hong Kong and fully respect the Commonwealth Hong Kong Garrison(CANADA, INDIA AND AUSTRALIANS) who defended our beautiful island from the Japanese invasion that time. Although we were occupied by the Japanese for 4 years it was a harsh time, but most of us stay strong and we couldn't wait for the British government to come back once again to governed us instead of the Communist China with no freedom system. We Hong Kongers loved the way you civilized us and made us the richest and most modern city in the whole of Asia that time. We missed the Western British atmosphere after 1997 handover, but we still are a democratic Hong Kong and we always welcome British People anytime. GOD BLESS HONG KONG and GOD SAVE THE QUEEN. THANK YOU SIMPLE HISTORY FOR MAKING THIS VIDEO.
Lucas Tant Anytime mate, hong kong is a wonderful city and i hope to visit one day. And maybe we could take it back from the chinese communist party one day...
first and foremost the chinese administration has a different system of government that they have reformed from the maoist period of china, while it may not be the most free or pro-choice it has served communist china well is outclassing various countries including that little rock with scum living on it called Britain
"sometimes but they are getting civilized" do you have any idea how racist and incorrect that statement was, firstly the British empire was a ruthless empire that brutalized, enslaved and massacred millions if not billions with their white supremacist agenda, and furthermore their whole idea of civilizing was wiping away centuries of ancient culture and replacing it with noting but shallow husks of crummy British culture
This is pretty accurate! However, there’s a word in the background from 4:51 that was out of place, “地鐵站”. It means “Metro Station” and Hong Kong did not have metro during WW2.

Not going to lie, I personally much prefer your military history videos and its great to see you guys make another one. Just as entertaining and informative as usual keep it up SH :)
WatcherMovie008 which is also why they gave Lawson a military burial, because he went out fighting.
Tremulousnut
Glad they dropped the bombs on the mudering bastards.

Thanks for helping to keep our history in record.
Thanks for the video, Ill use this for my history assessment
I am so glad that some youtuber made the history of my home!Salute to all the HK defenders!
Hey Simple History! I was wondering if you guys could do a video on the Napoleonic Wars? I think I’d be cool! Keep up the good work!
Visitors should also tour the Central Battery and walk down to the torpedo station on the shore to see where the Japanese crossed from Lei Yue Mun.
i absolutely love this newly found channel. B.A. in Poly Sci..these videos are simply brilliant. gang.
Please do a video about the British and the Indian Gurkhas who fought for the British commonwealth. These regiments went to most wars the UK was involved in since 1814.
UK WINS
They already have that
And Curry launchers 🤣
The Gurkhas arn't indian, however a few of their regiments do fight for the indian army.
Daniel Bowes well the Gurkhas arnt Indian, sooo
So basically:
Japan was that kid in school who would cheat as much as they can to win the games and no one likes to play with them
I mean, shooting medics as easy targets, torturing and killing civilians, torturing and killing POW's, ignoring declarations of war
Basically
And not be able to win
And people think America was cruel for dropping two.
They might have had to drop three.
Stfu, your prepubescent analogy shouldn't even apply to this important event, and your pfp is LITERALLY Anime arts which is inherently Japanese, talk about a worthless taken for granted idiot, your mom should take your phone away, also stop associating in WW2 or any major history for that matter, it's for the better.
@@drevichcalot8041 his argument made total sense and you are attacking him based on a genetic fallacy which is not a real argument. And who cares if he likes anime and that is Japanese, that does not mean he can be well versed in history to know why the US decided to drop the bombs. I have a Mercedes which is a german car but that does not automatically mean i am not allowed to criticize the Germans in WWII according to your weird rules

Thanks for making a video on Hong Kong. I’ve been a follower of your channel and quite surprised to see my hometown in this episode. (And the accuracy is very high too). Thanks for telling our story
One thing that came to my mind though...in the video background there are a few Chinese characters one said “地鐵站” which is historically inaccurate. MTR (subway) starts servicing in 1979 long after WWII. Other than that one all the rest are done correct! Good job
Australia in the Vietnam war?
Noot Noot Gaming I would also like to learn about south Korea's role
Christian Weibrecht and Thailand and Taiwan
Servants of the invaders? Many southerners saw them as heroes that are fighting for their freedom, their lives against the communist threat in the north.
My grandma lives in Hong Kong. She told me stories of how she remembers having to bow everytime she was in the presence of a Japanese soldier. She also remembers living under rations imposed by Japan. She eventually escaped to mainland and returned back years later.
My grandmother's brother witnessed Japan bombing his school and child body parts plastered all over the school wall.
Nice Video!
I am from Hong Kong and this video made me know more about the war. Thank you for making the video
General Lawson never surrendered. He went out in a blaze of glory with a cigarette in his mouth and a Colt in each hand. This man made a final stand.
RIP you legend.
Thanks for the recap, my great uncle fought with the Winnipeg grenadiers, he was fortunate enough to survive the battle and his host as a Japanese POW after.
Was he a Bruce Lee fan?
Very Interesting - Mahalo! 😊🤙🏼👏🏼

Hey simple history, since y’all are nearing a million subscribers, maybe y’all can make a video about the TOG 2 tank or the Tachanka. These are fan favorites among video games and historians alike.

Cool video I just started to film the battle sites and tunnels in Hong Kong and metal detecting in search for last artefacts. I will be releasing my next video this weekend .
You should do a new factions video BUT on the Napoleonic wars. And if you really wanted to get a lot of content, do it instead on specific regiments.
Just a suggestion
YES YOU ARE AWESOME because, in any non-European country, the Napoleonic wars is never a thing that you learn from teachers, it's only taught in places were it happened, and Napoleon is also seen as a tyrant in some countries (Britan I see you there) and it's ver important in the history of war, and Europe,
Do The Battle of Okinawa and The battle of Iwo Jima and Strange Stories Desmond Doss.
Nice to see mtr coming to Hong Kong during the War :D
Thank you for your great research and artwork in the video. Fall of Hong Kong in 2019 will become a page of history.
Just curious, if ya'll wanted to do some stuff out of the WWs, as much content is there, why not hit up some older wars like the Great Northern War with Carolus Rex. Just a little number that could be cool. Don't worry if ya'll got to much on your plate though! Still loving it, and you guys make the sponsorship worth every penny!
Well, the British don't like you, I can assure you that to them you are a resource
Jonathan English yeh probably, still better than the commies who claim they're family but fucks hongkies upside down though
first and foremost the chinese administration has a different system of government that they have reformed from the maoist period of china, while it may not be the most free or pro-choice it has served communist china well is outclassing various countries including that little rock with scum living on it called Britain
Do the Battle of Midway next.
This is pretty accurate! However, there’s a word in the background from 4:51 that was out of place, “地鐵站”. It means “Metro Station” and Hong Kong did not have metro during WW2.
