I have the A-10c in DCS and it's like a girlfriend, you love it even though you don't fully understand it.
And it’s not real.
But you wished you were into the real one
Hahaha

@Joe Kinchicken mate if your named "kinchicken" dont call someone a nerd lmao
Former A-10 Crew Chief here: The A-10 is pretty fun to mess around with, and I can tell you that it is a giant Titanium tub that makes up the entire cockpit. The A-10 is what we call a flying tank. There have been pilots who lose both engines and half a wing deployed and still come back with a soft landing. I've seen cases where an A-10 has it's nacelle and engine hanging off by a bolt or two and the pilot feels nothing in terms of anything being outright wrong with the jet. The jet was designed around the GAU-8 for sure, which is why it was difficult to engineer at first. You have left and right slats in order to make up for the lift issue when firing the gun because the recoil would stall out the jet so that extra airflow is needed to go into the engines. It's a pretty incredible design. Hasn't been anything quite like it since. I will say though that we don't use pave penny pods anymore and usually the pilots load out an AIM-9 or other targeting pod for targeting.
Chris M Both engines gone, mostly peppered and rattled.
Pilot: this but a scratch
@@swamihernandez5408 A10: 2 engines fucked and half a wing missing and covered with bullet holes
A10 pilot: IVE HAD WORSE
Aren't they removing the pave penny pods from the plane in the current suite updates? I've seen a couple without them now, feels kind of odd to see a "slicked" A-10.
AIT A-10 Crew Chief here: Sat in the cockpit for the first time today. Learned cockpit ready for maintenance, manual canopy opening, and windshield removal. It was so cool
Chris M I’m an A-10 crew chief at Moody 🤙🏼

Just a video judging from him saying the realism is scary, I’d say yes, it’s fr

@@paradox_wick777 it is honestly kinda scary knowing that all the top secret targeting systems and weaponry were somehow put into a game
@@williewilson2250 If I remember correctly, all the top-secret stuff still isn't in the game since. This (correct me if I'm wrong) is just unclassified mechanics of the aircraft.

Fun Fact, to even further prove that the A-10 was built around its gun, the front gear is literally shifted offset to the left to make room for the massive gun.
And if you don't know that, it can make for an exciting first takeoff run. :D
Also, even though the gun isn't on centerline, the barrel shooting always is.
honestly never considered that planes would have recoil
No no, it's a gun with wings. Much easier to grasp.
I'm in the French Air Force. Weapons technician on the Mirage 2000D. Some of my comrades who worked on the Mirage F1-CR told me that only one 30mm revolver Canon like the DEFA-553 (which equipped the Mirage F1) was able to slow down the aircraft or make him move.
Another example : French Air Force is planning to add a gun pod on the 2000D (which has no internal gun, like all twin-seat Mirages) on the front left corner of the fuselage, and the integration of a 30mm gun pod on this plane is a problem due to the recoil of the gun, because the gun pod will not be directly in the axis of the plane.

As you will hear from anybody involved with the A-10 ... unlike most planes which have a gun attached, the A-10 is a gun with a plane attached. It was literally built AROUND that insane 30mm GAU-8 Avenger rotary cannon, instead of the usual route which is designing the guns to fit the aircraft. It's funny because the sound of the gun is an unavoidable side product of how it works, yet the sound alone has become another one of its biggest weapons - that intimidation and fear-factor it invokes.
"that intimidation and fear-factor"
Or Orgasm.
You could fire blanks out of that thing and make people run.
You can't get anymore America than that

@@mrandrossguy9871 .... sign up to fly the A10, end up in a gunship doing circles.
Also, there is 0 guarantee to be a pilot, let alone choose the platform you end up in. People don't sign up to fly AMC. A minority choose helos, gunships / AFSOC (AMC for the special people), etc.
There's even less guarantee this bird exists in 10 years. The gunships aren't as sexy for the youtube crowd, but with rare exceptions they perform the job better. I can see keeping a handful of A10s to supplement the gunships for intimidation and situations that require more defensive armor, but otherwise the gunships can do the same job in a fraction of the time with 100% uptime on target (no circling, no strafing... just constant fire from 5000 ft.)
I am proud to say, once upon a time, I made ammo for that plane. Both HEI and training rounds. The shear size of the loaded cartridge is quite impressive.

Gone through 5 module so far. I started with BS when it first came out and flew the hell out of it. I really knew that helicopter. Go back into DCS last year I bought all the modules I liked. Only 5 down and I started with the lesser tech planes. It's gonna keep you busy. I recommend a 2nd screen AND a tablet with chucks guides on them while you are learning and flying. It really cuts down figuring out why you pressed a button and nothing happened or why something completely different just happened. I can't tell you how many times I lawn darted the Mig 21 with the wrong combination of actions. Tons of fun and the reward is well worth it when you learn all the systems and put them all into use in missions. TrackIR is a must. VR is fun but your cut off from all external knowledge so know your aircraft before you head off in VR. Awesome video!
one of my favorite aircraft of the sim, also it has one of the best training missions if not the best. Get the Enemy within campain, so good and immersive.
Love the DCS vids! Never thought I'd see my favorite youtuber playing my favorite game! :)
I love these style videos. Where you just go on the opposite of a rant, and the passion you have for this world is made evident.
I get to work on the A-10c at the training base in Tucson and I was shocked how accurate DCS was with the air frame as a whole every single thing on their is pretty much accurate to the T to include squadron markings. the Aircraft at 13:15 has the 357th Dragons paint job on it from my actual squadron
Since the a10c was the first plane i learned in dcs, everything else is a piece of cake.
This gives me hope. I grew up outside Davis-Monthan AFB in Tucson and watched the A-10's all the time, so I bought this module when it first came out, when it was a standalone game and DCS was still a twinkle in ED's collective eye.
Lack of time has prevented me from devoting enough consecutive days/weeks to learn and retain everything, so I have to start over every year.
The Doug part really cracked me up 😂
A10C was the first Plane I got in DCS (First Module was the Black Shark, the very first one back in 2009 looong before DCS World) and it is the Plane I come back to everytime... It's just so relaxing to wreck Havoc on the Ground after dealing with a bunch of planes in a F16, F18 or something.
awesome, congratz for that step up^^ great video
Once you've become proficient in the C-model, then go try the A-10A. Some find the analogue bird easier, while others find that they've come to rely too heavily on all of that 'glass'.
Or don't do that to yourself.
What I love about the a-10 or basically all air-to-ground-planes is the cooperation between the infantry (probably a jtac) or other elements and the plane itself. Its an aspect that I really miss in DCS (I know it doesn't fit, and DCS is not (yet) meant for it). Still this is what I love about Arma. You just have this aspect of cooperation between different elements. The guys on the ground can tell the difference and they also add a special difficulty: hitting your won guys in a danger close situation. Still DCS is super impressive and I love the content - both game and vids! Keep up!
I'll never forget the giddy joy of hearing that GAU over our heads in Afghanistan, you cant help but laugh. That thing roars and echos through valleys for miles. You hear the impacts first and the glorious freedom fart a few seconds later. The willy pete rockets were pretty sweet too... you know... for "marking" targets
The engineering of this plane is a lot more satisfying than just how it sounds and destroy things

1:56 how do you see where you going when there's smoke in front.
(I can see your definition of difficult!)
pretty easy, the smoke is below the targeting reticle
This was actually quite a serious problem in early prototypes of the A-10A, the smoke would completely obscure the target and would continue down the fuselage and straight into the engines. The nose was consequently re-designed (or rather re-shaped) to direct the smoke to the sides of the cockpit, solving the issue.
Nice dcs is finally getting some good attention
This was an awesome video! It makes me want to get back into Microsoft flight sim and learn how to fly a plane. Like any plane.
the a10c on dcs was my first plane, wasn't that hard!
and the agm range is around 8nm
AGM-65 Maverick range? Google it:
17+ miles (12 nautical miles/27 km)
OperatorDrewski i can’t get a lock past 9nm on dcs so i though it was his range
@@OperatorDrewski Well, kinda but not really. As with any ag-weapon its range is highly dependent on the launch parameters (speed and altitude) and the targets' contrast against the background. Effective range is about 8nm maximum under ideal conditions but I think it's fair to say that it's mostly around 7-6nm. The limiting factor here is not the missiles' theoretical aerodynamic range but the capability of the sensor to resolve and track your target. Of course, if you're high and fast you can engage static targets like fixed aa-guns or bunkers at 12nm in the missiles's force correlate mode (I have done that to take out bunkers from out of SAM range for example), but you can forget about moving targets. So yes, I think it's fair to say that it has a max range of about 8nm and an effective range of 6-7nm. At least in DCS.
@@-ugly-Derby The Hornet can fire laser guided mavs and I've been able to get a lock and fire from over 12+ nm, so they're pretty cool and usefull.

@@terryritter7065 Ok, yes. I forgot about those 2-3 seconds. ;) But that was also the part where he says "real-life".
And I think, when people are impressed by the look, that they're talking about the planes' exteriors in flight and the environment, not necessarily an oblique view of the cockpit.
So, 99.9% in-game footage.
