I last saw roy acuff in an interview in which he explicitly made te point that he did ot consider himself a southerner. He spoke of how all of his family (which caused some to disown him, and disagree) were unionist during the southern war for independence, and fought against his neighbors, (he didn't mention family who fought for the south in the 95% or better range).
Acuff was old, and his sales sliding as they for everyone, he wanted too blame southerners for his sliding popularity.. con.

There was a lot of people in Southern States, that were Unionist. They were against Slavery. June Carter's Great- Grandparent-W.Virginia,was a Union Soldier. "Stringbean"'s Grandpa,of Kentucky, was a Union Soldier. Acuff's Grandpa, was a Union Soldier. His Family, was Educated, too. His Father,a Minister, Grandpa, a Judge. Not the so poor, type.
