John Mayer cries while playing "Gravity" in Nashville 2/10/10

  • So, this show was really good, but in this one particular part, John breaks down and gets really sentimental for a moment. He talks about how he's been selfish for his whole life and starts to cry. Fast forward to 3:57 and that's where it starts. I recorded this concert on the FlipCam and just wanted to show people what happened during his concert. I do not own the rights to this music and I am not trying to be compensated for this video.

You took a GIANT step forward here John. Growing up takes some of us longer, but you finally made it. No matter

+chucho1985 Yup. Came across this again, and the two things I'll never forget about this were his sincerity - he actually knows what he did wrong, and wants to work on it. It may be the most genuine celebrity apology I've ever heard. And it's no coincidence it's coming from a songwriter who's job it is to be introspective.
And Kenna(?) grabbing Melanies(?) hand after what's said at 6:31. That's it. That's something TMZ can't cover.
Because he said EXACTLY what they were feeling. Clearly they've talked about that Playboy interview. He fucked up, said some hurtful shit in an attempt to be an edge-lord like so many young men do. And it had to have hit close to home with the black women sharing the stage with him. There was alot said in that hand hold.
Anyways. Point is - that's after the controversy was done, the vultures got their kill, and moved on. That tiny little moment captured on some fans shaky I-Phone camera holds more meaning than all the ink and lip service spent covering this "controversy" that week. It's why the internet continues to be more quietly profound in ways lamestream media could never be.

a lot of people are trying to cancel him again but he’s genuinely already apologized and owned up to his mistakes. he’s changed so much as a person and there’s no reason to keep bringing up everything he’s done wrong. it’s very obvious that fame got to his head and made him believe he was on top of the world, but he’s sincerely acknowledged his faults and took the time to step back and reflect on himself. his attempt to be charming and clever got the best of him but he admitted to his wrongdoings and i respect him for it

They pick and choose a douchebag thing he did in the past then frame it as a recent development, absolutely disregarding the progress he has made into becoming a much better person than he was before.
It also doesn't help that a big proportion of Taylor Swift fans are still currently rabidly holding deep grudges against JM for his relationship with her 10 years ago. I mean, look at the comments section of his first and second Tik Tok posts.

The "scandal" always overshadows the aftermath, unfortunately. Because for one rare moment, a public figure truly learned their lesson about what they were doing wrong. That's rare, and he'll never really get the credit he deserves for that because so many people get their apologies wrong. This isn't just going through the motions, he really gets it - being clever all the time is exhausting, and immature. It takes guts to apologize in front of thousands.

Well, I don't know much about John Mayer or what he's been selfish or egotistical about BUT at least he is man enough to realize and admit his mistakes. Obviously he is smart enough to know when he messes up, unlike 80 percent of people in the United States. Also, why does everyone care so much about who celebrities are dating or having sex with? That's their business and what they do for or to each other is also their business. Not to mention, it isn't like everyone else in the world is perfect and only celebrities lie, cheat, and manipulate. Keep it real people...

    • @JakobMan426
      @JakobMan426 10 лет назад +1

Bumble B Well, more power to them if they are making money, I guess... But I was really referring to those who don't butt into other people's lives for a living. Why does everyone really care that much like they know these people personally? Have you ever read comments under Rihanna or Beyonce's pictures? There are some sick individuals in the world and speak and act like they just partied with these celebrities last week. Don't get me wrong, I know that if someone is famous they expect to be followed and photographed, etc... But I just do not understand why people (by people I mean fans and such) care SO MUCH about their personal lives. You know?

    • @matthewcuriel991
      @matthewcuriel991 5 лет назад

You are a very smart and a very brilliant person Rebecca. It shows depth in your thinking that you are able to realize that. People love to hold people accountable but would never hold themselves accountable for similar actions. And dont know when to stay in their own lane. They think there social status gives them power and control to do things and for it to be justified due to their status where it wouldnt be for someone of another status.
      Example
A mother treats her son like garbage even though he has done nothing to warrant that mode of treatment. Then the mother expects to be treated with respect (but more borderline loyalty which implies she wants someone that will support her even if she does wrong). But if she knew how fairness worked she should expect the same treatment she dishes out.
And the son either refrains from doing the same thing she does to him and allows her to build stubborness around her actions to where she never sees her errors, or does something and gets kicked out the house or gets into an altercation he never cared to be in and doesnt deserve to be in.
Ideally a mother has higher status than a son. So if the mothers reasoning is always and only "im your mother" and further says "its not what you said its how you said it" thats an example of people using their status to defend their wrong doing and neglect the reasoning of the person of lower status where they feel subconciously that person may have a point. Instead of acknowledging what they do as wrong. They pin the lower status as wrong by claiming that person is being disrespectful or somrthing stupid and nonsensical.
People think as spectators (another status example) since its them that has control of either noticing or neglecting someones brilliance, that once the star does something noticeably wrong they can simply talk about them negatively and defame them. Because at the end they do control a persons worth because without them he is not a star he is just an over looked talent.
People want control of everyone and every thing else outside of themselves so bad it makes no sense. Yet the one thing they dont have is self control. Its pathetic to me.
The solution is so hard because it requires for the people who dont think logically to realize they are the problem. The people who generalize and try to stick with the status quo. Hide in their status because of how easy it is. The people who spend every second of their day calling out other people for making excuses like them calling out excuses matters or makes anything better (it doesnt ... calling excuses is a way to neglect reason which implies that you the person calling excuses isnt a reasonable person.). The people who spend their lives talking behind peoples back instead of in their faces. The people who love to worry about other peoples mistakes but get defensive when someone genuinely notices something they could improve on but tell themselves they are incapable of getting better at task because they think acquiring skill is god given and not something people work for.
Theres a lot more to it but if you have any of these traits you are the problem that exist in society. Realizing these things are problematic is first step to a better future.
We gotta start treating each other equally right and respecting differences we may have. And not thinking we habe tp be kudge and jury dor others mistakes all the time.
Society now a days is molded to condon the main people causing a problem in it. The main people who love to call people crazy for introducing complex ideas are the ones that are crazy and making life worse. Consider every idea even if it doesnt align with what you know. Use logic and reason to figure things out not just your memory and credibility in sources online or in text books.
Lastly people think being smart is remembering everything and is knowing everything. But being smart is having the capability to solve problems that others cant.
Einsteins and newtons and others solved problems and managed to prove them to a stubborn society of people. That led to a lot of valid fundemental concepts in our school systems for us to learn.
Those guys are smart ... not the people who memorize formulas and pass their classes with straight A's by memory only but after the course never truly understood the course material. And only did work to get by and get a job and suck at their job.
Those people just seem smart because they have things to show for what they have accomplished. And a simple minded person only sees things for how they seem. But the main part of life to learn is that things go beyond what they seem almost all the time (complex minded people know this).
Looks can be decieving. In a relationship a lot more people opt for the person who looks good not the person who is good. But expect that they can control and change the good looking person to be the person they want them to be which never works. If the person or if you arent reasonable theres no chance your relationship will work because there will never be a point you 2 reach a reasonable understanding with each other.
*no more of this rant i just hope people get it*

The musicians I favorite are the ones that feel thier music and are able to touch you with it and/or with the lyrics. John Mayer is one of the BEST!!!

Glad I came across this video because I was a huge fan of his at one point. I absolutely love his music but couldn't listen to it after his rants to the media.
It's nice to see a soft, emotional side to the "recovering ego addict"... Mr Mayer.
I commend him and may even download a few songs now.
    Thank you for sharing this!

Listen to what John's saying. But watch the back up singers closely.
That moment, captured on some fans shaky I-Phone, says more about this "controversy" than anything else combined.

I study music and blues is my passion. When I listen to music I can distinguish musical complexity and originality. And that´s basically what I do everytime i listen to music. I hear the guitar above everything else, guitar is my passion. I love Pat Metheny, Scofield, Robben Ford and all the blues Greats, and JM is personally my favourit and my biggest influence in my guitar playing, and that´s it. MUSICALLY he is great man whether you want to agree or not.

Kind of interesting that this happening with the interviews and his realisation basicly created "born and raised" witch is my all time favurite record done by any artist. Real feelings create real art. Thank you for translating your feelings so efficiantly to your songwriting and your guitar, John.

I've always loved his music, I have every single one of his albums. But whenever I would mention John, people would say "but he's such a jerk." I guess not really anymore. If you listen to his new album, it's filled with so much remorse, it's beautiful. It feels better to support his music knowing that's he's become a much better person. He's grown up. Watch his interview with Ellen deGeneres, you can see his pain.
Just a beautiful story, his life is. Way to go, John.

His early Pop success gave him a name. He used that success and fan base to go out and play and record anything he wants. He's a better person for having made his mistakes. He's crazy talented, so he will persevere. His "Pop" music wasn't bad, or he wouldn't have ever made it this far.
