To speed down, you keep selecting speed up until 6~7th then it goes back to 1st gear.

Its realy rare to see player using type 3 or 4.. and if they do, most likely on a easier dificulties..
This type is the most defensive one Imo
@Pegboy Which weapon array do u think is best for the first timers? which one, for advanced players? (Note: cannot say weapon edit)
For first timers, I'd probably recommend Type 4, as it is the least complicated and provides pretty good protection (assuming you have the laser). For more advanced players I'd stick with Type 1 or Type 2, although they have a higher learning curve.
To me personally, Type 1 is the best because it has a solution for every situation in the game. Type 3 & 4 have some major limitations in certain parts of the game, and they become even more of an issue in higher loops.
tldr:
beginners: Type 4 > Type 3 > Type 1 > Type 2
advanced: Type 1 > Type 2 > Type 3 > Type 4
Type 2 with a Wico and Sanwa is the only way I could do it on the last loop. Number 10 I was knackered. It looks like you are using a controller rather than a joystick. I would never dare.

@@PEG On the later loops I was unable to progress with Type 1 it was too slow I had to max out my speed and this just lead to crashes.
