I get a shocking number of DMs and comments asking what camera I use for IG reels and other BTS deconstruction footage that I post.
The answer is the Insta360 One X2. I've rotated through a LOT of different cameras over the past few years. I really love the Insta360 Go 2 camera, which I used until I upgraded to the Canon R3. The gripped body of the R3 was just too large to add yet another thing to the hotshoe, and battery life/having to remember to start and stop recording the Go 2 proved to just get in the way too much. I still think it's the next best option followed closely by the DJI Osmo.
The video above explains all the justifications why I switched to the larger One X2 body, and it's proven to be rock solid. Of course... anyone reading this that doesn't wear a shoulder sling bag will have to consider where else they could mount this large camera because it definitely wouldn't work mounted on the camera.
The footage captured is extremely flexible in post to crop 5K 9:16 or 16:9 5K without losing any resolution. The insta360 Studio software is also not a total train wreck the way most 3rd party software tends to be.
I'm working on a beginning to end tutorial outlining all the steps I take to make a reel. Literally takes me 10 mins? Maybe less.
Reels have proven to be extremely powerful for both wedding clients, and photographer awareness. As far as the IG reels bonus program? I think I've made about $400 in reels views payments total, haha. Better than nothing though!
