Your observation about Beijing is quite accurate. The atmosphere is much more relaxed, to the point where very few people would feel the need to dress up for work. Chinese don’t wear business suits for day to day office work unless for important occasions or his/her job is low end salesperson. This is very different from Japanese office culture. About the bright lights comment that you made, you have to blame your government’s stance on the war in Ukraine. Sanction is a double edge sword which pushed up the electricity price significantly.
