I notched the short in four places as well as the band,then I attached notched part together and because the band is elastic,u need to stretch it really well as you sew,so it can go round the waist of your short

Wrap the elastic around your waist or where the shorts will rest until it is snug. Add just a quarter of an inch to the elastic, then cut.
