I knew the Black Dynamite ki-ai (the karate shout) was from Jim Kelly, but had never realized just how much it took from Black Belt Jones. It really is a masterful homage to the classics.
Pinky is my favorite anti-hero villain of all time... He really had it in for Jones... He said "He'd k!ll the SOB that leaves a bone unbroken in this ninja..." even though Jones gave him the money bag... he still wanted him d3ad... lol. it was personal

Fun Fact: Jim Kelly in a 2012 interview said he was offered a "comeback" role in Rush Hour 3, by the director... and they were ready to film. Then all of a sudden, the deal was off. It was said that "allegedly" Chris Tucker didn't want Kelly to steal any spotlight from him. I'm like, Chris Tucker wouldn't have a job if Jim Kelly didn't pave the way for him.
Black Belt Jones 2 isn't a sequel its a different film that they slapped the name on it because Jim Kelly is in it. Which isnt much because its a kung fu movie from hong kong where they keep calling him black guy. Black Samurai from 1976 is more of a spiritual sequel to Black Belt Jones which i feel you should check out. Also Three The Hard Way from 1974 is another one of his classics you should watch as it starred three of the big stars of black action movies/action movies of the 70s.
Hot potato isnt a sequel to BBJ he's not even referred to as Black belt jones in that film like he was in BBJ film where he was called BB or Black Belt most of the time . In Hot potato they just used the same surname for a NEW character played by the same actor which wasnt uncommon at the time . Also it was more of a spoof unlike BBJ. If it was a sequel they would have ACTUALLY used black belt jones in the title since that was a success. Like they did with Cleopatra Jones which was made by the same film company. Her name is Esther Sutherland an she was a jazz blues and gospel singer and actress. She also did comedy. She was 43/44 years old when she did this movie. She also guest starred in the jeffersons, sanford and son and appeared in that dolly parton film 9 to 5 movie As well as being in some big blaxploitation films that you might end up reacting to. She passed away back in 86 at 54 years old. Rest in power Esther Sutherland.
This made me think of another movie called "Undefeatable" (1993). The movie is bad but it has some of the most hilariously staged fight scenes ever filmed! I don't know if you'd want to watch the entire movie (again it's really BAD) but the clips you can find on RUclips are hysterical!!! 😂😂 Also, "Bowfinger" could be a fun comedy for the channel. Eddie Murphy and Steve Martin... and that fight sequence at the end! Absolute classic! 🤣🤣

Yeah they were trying to make ants a racial slur but it never caught on. Ants are mostly black so that's why the writers used it, however ants also work and build together and are stronger for their size so it was too much of a positive to be effective against us.

Jim Kelly wasn’t the black Bruce Lee, but after Enter the Dragon was a hit, Warner Brothers wanted a sequel or the next best thing. Since Bruce Lee had died by that time, the filmmakers focused on making a movie around Jim Kelly. It even has the same director as Enter the Dragon.
I couldn't ignore the movie poster where it says "Enter Jim "Dragon" Kelly". That was the main thing that made me think that they were trying to set him up as the Black Bruce Lee. But these movies being directed by the same person, explains that a lot more lol

Kelly's association with Enter the Dragon was enough for him to get six films out of it including this one which made Kelly the second martial artist to head line american movies after lee but the FIRST american martial artist action movie star in hollywood who briefly sat on the throne Lee vacated(yes incels i said it because its true and a fact) before hollywerid cut the cord on the blaxploitation genre in 77, and the rise of the hong kong kung fu boom and golden age with the rise of jackie chan (which took him years to cross over into hollywood) and the sub par moies of chuck norris who was the second american martial artist action star and replaced lee and kelly as the king of kung fu/action movies in hollywerid. But if you think i'm just saying that wait till you see black samurai and you will see your initial impression was the right one. Anyway kelly couldnt take the name black dragon which was the nickname and movie of another black american martial artist and film star Ron Van Clief who was known to be a badass in real life and where Shonuff from the last dragon was based on as ron had a habit of getting into fights for the sake of it including having a brawl in a movie theatre. He was the first american to headline a hong kong kung fu movie while Carl Scott a black american became the 4th or 3rd to headline a kung fu movie but unlike everyone else he was just as fast as his chinese counterparts and the best out of the three.
