Great stuff! A handy hint is to save the bits of cured foam that you've chopped off and push them into the foam as you're squirting it out of the can - it makes your can go much further!!

We made a very large light up mushroom (like 9ft tall) and would creat the stem layer by layer, we shoved all kinds of trash from the projects, news paper, beer cans, even puntured the used foam cans and would just discard them in the next layer. Lit less trash to deal with and took up some volume. We still used like 30 cans of spray foam. 😂

Sprayfoam is great for creatives. My mom and her sisters made massive, ok ....large, sculptures in Albany Oregon at a place called.....wait for it......Sprayfoam hahahaha If you want to look it up, they've been out of business for many years, disregard the Eagle hahaha Aunty had a bit of a mathing mishap and things didn't go so well and for SOME reason, no one caught it. But the duck in the city pond turned out amazing and so did mom's killer whale and mermaid fountain as well as everything else they made. Not sure if they made any skulls haha. Interesting fact about the foam......it's pretty darned sturdy. They built a small building out of the 50 gallon drums the 2 part chemicals came in, sprayed them together and covered them in foam and when the city tried to shut it down because of code violations they had to show that the building met and exceeded code requirements for fire, wind, and everything else. They were allowed to keep the poor ugly thing hahaha

You read my mind with this. Not more than 24hrs ago I had the idea of maybe using a milk jug skull as a form to fill with great stuff foam to make foam skulls. I searched around but no one had done a video on it so was skeptical. But to my surprise, you released this video today lol. So this gives me hope that it may work.

  • @Em22-wtf

LOVE this, lol, funny bc I was watching your ollld video on glue stick teeth & Im sitting here cutting my glue teeth when this popped up!
Also, I work w spray foam a LOT making fake breads & muffins the last 10 years....I have found if your foam is expanding beyond your mold, if you take a skewer (wood, metal, just as long as its long & pointy & not something you care about getting foam stuck on it, lol) & poke it through the "skin" as the foam is curing and then push on the mold or foam. The hole will release either liquid foam or air & it helps to keep the shape inside the mold without expanding your mold out of shape or beyond your mold. I will re-poke the skewer into the hole every 30 min or so as its curing. Once it stops releasing the foam or air when you push on the foam, then you know its done!
Just be sure to poke the hole in a spot you wont really see bc it will leave a very small hole, but also a bit of foam around the hole that will cure much harder then the rest. I found this out by trial & error after the foam would keep pushing my bread tins out of shape & they would NOT sit flat anymore! I tried the skewer & it worked PERFECTLY! That and adding a little weight to the bottom (like a washer or little stones from Dollar Tree).
Hope this helps someone that might try the skulls!...or even fake bread & muffins, lol!

I just finished my catacomb wall build. I did these foam skulls bc even if I only used cheap one I was still looking at over $200. Unfortunately I did buy a good amount before figuring this out. Heck I even tried plaster. Once painted you really can't tell. Patting it down a little helps for detail and bubbles. Definitely used water..

A few other haunters have used large bowls from dollar tree for the halves of a pumpkin. Spiral the foam around the inside surface of the bowls; no need to fill it. Then combine the halves with beads of foam run vertically after they've cured. Methods vary on shaping the sections of the pumpkin, but it seems to work well.

You're awesome! I use a pretty similar method for quite a while now, I actually make skull copies using paper mache on a very good quality resin skull, then after cutting off and reassembling the hollow paper mache skulls fill 'em with expanding foam through the foramen magnum.
They're very sturdy, and thanks to the paper mache the surface is always smooth. You can paint them directly, but mostly I use them for corpse & zombie heads using liquid latex corpsing technic or just adding a layer of liquid latex make them completely water and weather proof. One day I might start a Halloween theme YT channel as well... haha
    Great Haunt Everyone! 💀👻☠

Good news as this means you don't have to bother with release agents where you can't always be sure if they'll work, BUT there are different kinds of foam that rise to different extents, some are 2 part formulas etc and some foams can't be carved to shapes
