@@vinceb8123 Thanks mate! Have fun! :)

I have a half a billion space bucks and a self sufficient wharf, but just found out you can run with a double tap W!
Space bucks 😅. Spaceballs reference.
You can also just assigned W to the sprint command so you run everywhere.
Is doing the tutorial like reading an instruction manual? Lol
I'm a man, I don't need that.😉
I love how your name starts with "tap w", too 🤣
Dude, if I had half a billion I wouldnt run anywhere ever XD
Thank you for making the only x4 guide with an intro that doesnt make me want to commit some kind of violent crime. Top tier
Lol thanks
THIS! So true! All other X4 intro/tutorials makes my head hurt. This video was excellent. No unnecessary hand holding. A simple and easy how to get started video! Thank you @WatchMysh.
this is one of the best tutorials i have ever seen. over all.
@@Sandstyle thank you so much! Appreciate it! :)
Agree, this is very well set out and presented.
Just want to thank you for a no-nonsense, clear, concise guide without any rambling that alot of guides suffer from. I appreciate this takes alot of time and effort to do so just wanted to show my appreciation.
Holy cow, thanks! :) And yes, these guides take a lot of effort to make that's why I can't publish stuff on this level very frequently. Thanks for the appreciation!
your mouse button graphics and explanations blown me away. thats too much for a standard youtube user :D. thanks for that! perfect video.
Lol! Thank you so much! I put tons of effort into my videos. Happy to see it appreciated.
i've been looking for an "EVE-OFFLINE"-type game for like 15 years... and i've heard of this game but didnt KNOW what it was. im so glad i found this. this guide is amazing to get started. Thanks!!
Np! :) It's very different from EVE in many aspects, though. Don't be disappointed! If you want like a simple indie style EVE check out Astrox.
@@WatchMysh no, i love the complexity of this game, already. im a sim enjoyer. and i prefer singleplayer. got a few weeks before starting new job so im gonna get down on it tonight
@@Spec1alDel1very_ Way to go!
This is probably the best starter guide for this game out there. A lot of visual tips as well as informative and all made simple. Thanks, dude!
Thanks for the appreciation! :)
I cant believe the second i say "you know what im gonna give this game a go" this video comes up. Extremely helpful, thanks alot.
Hf! :) More tutorials are already planned.
best tutorial ever. Should be on X4 steam page. I'm jealous of your pacing and ability to structure the topics
Wow thanks for the encouraging words. :)

Started a game as new gun and followed this tutorial. Instantly died in a mine field afterward. 10/10 would recommend.

Thanks. That's what I've planned. :)
You have to to college classes to understand this retarded game. Video games should be fun not this frustrating and difficult!
I feel you.
I've owned the game for ages and just been getting the DLC's cause "one day I will totally play this".
Unfortunately every time I jump in the game the lack of hand holding makes me quit very fast.
Hopefully now with this video I get a better start and understanding

Thank you so much, this is the best tutorial intro to the game I've seen, Getting all the input settings right is a big bonus and understanding them. I will be watching and using your other videos too. Now i really do feel motivated to make another start, I've tried before but confused myself into quitting but this has given me confidence and motivation. Thank You so much 😊
I've recenetly got into X4 (Timelines newbe here). I've checked my fare share of introduction guides and this one is the most solid ! Thank you so much for creating it.
Thanks! 🤗 Happy y'all like it so much.
This was really helpful thanks! I started playing this when it first came out and immediately got option paralysis and then just struggled to take it all in so this is super helpful.
Lol. "Option paralysis". I'll steal that.
I love this tutorial. One little extra chapter I would like to see: advanced flight control and dog fighting basics (which includes strafing and using secondary weapons).
When it comes to advanced flight controls, think of things such as adapting speed to selected object. And difference between assisted flight controls on/off. Things like that. Maybe it helps if I offer you some coffee. What is reasonable?
Cheers.
One of the best tutorial, straight to the point and explain all the important key binding.
Amazing tutorial, I've had the game for a while, but kept getting overwhelmed when I started playing it, this has made me feel comfortable actually playing it now, especially with the key rebinds, they help a ton. love the vid :)
New to X4 though have some experience in x3, this video is fantastic, it's straight to the point, very informative (I love the constant reminders of the various shortcuts) and easy to understand.
Subbed and I will be using your brilliant guide, thank you!

@@WatchMysh For sure man, i get you. If you ever need unique music tracks, I am a smalltime music composer. Just say the word
I figured that since pulse lasers were the cheapest starter weapon that you obviously had to upgrade to a new weapon immediately. Pulse laser remains my go-to all around weapon for most ships after thousands of hours in the game. Its more like a "baseline" weapon than a "starter" weapon.
Absolutely. Pulse Lasers are one of the if not the most reliable weapons in the game on average.
@@WatchMysh Yep, their accuracy makes them so dependable. No "RNG" required for projectile hits depending on speed, accuracy etc. Pulse lasers though, they just.... Work
You have two tiers Mk1 and Mk2.
You can upgrade very soon in the game spent the rest of the game with.
@@WatchMysh I recall from X3 that Phased Shockwave Generators were much more reliable while also devastating, best weapons against all classes of ships, stations, groups of ships and rockets, literally everything. PSG was also consuming lots of PC memory when continuously fired, my old back in it's time PC was almost choking :). I never played X4 but think of buing it. Are the Paranid PSG still so powerful in X4 like they were in X3?
@@RagnarCzerwony The weapons are quite different compared to X3.
Wow, thank you! Awesome content, extremely well explained, and super helpful!! Keep up the good work! Cheers from Portugal
Appreciate it! :) Thanks!
Excellent video! Picked up this game a little while ago. Played the tutorials, but I don't recall the part about making money from missions. Very, very brief introduction into salvage and mining, but that was it. I remember being told how to surf through the menus, all the while rebinding controls for my controller. I really want to enjoy this game, so I'm taking it slowly, and learning what I can first before jumping headlong into disaster. My fear for that came from the frustratingly brutal Elite: Dangerous learning curve...
Thanks! :)
Elite really was brutal. I think I had about 200 hours and still felt like a noob.
That game requires Google research while you're trying to play. Lol
X4 is such an underrated game. Yes, there's a bit of a learning curve initially to get started with the basics, but it's over quickly & then it's the deepest game you'll ever play. Thanks for covering those basics here.
It seems to be what I always wanted Eve Online to be.
I just got it, really excited to dive into it
Thank you so much , for having a high def tutorial . Much Appreciated , and very rare.👍

Mission accomplished :)
3:49 You have one odd keyboard if you have that key next to left shift and if you have letter Y where the video shows. I understand some keyboard layouts are different for other countries, but I have never seen one with a Y down there. I thought they were still considered QWERTY keyboard layouts. Perhaps I am mistaken. Long story short, on an American keyboard, that key is the letter Z.
It's a German layout

@@formyzee907 Thanks! :) Nicely worded. I'll steal that to tell other people how to make good guides.
Firing with middle mouse button... madness!
:D Efficiency!
@@WatchMysh btw I have to say that I haven't seen a more annoying menu system than what these idiots put together for their game... Starting with the fact that you have to double click everything in the menu, followed by the missing 'reset to default' button... But what's more annoying than that is the fact that one can't bind mouse scroll to decelerate and accelerate at the same time along with not being able to bind left mouse button to anything, because the game thinks that I'm clicking something in the menu instead of registering it.
@@SolantisA I'm so used to all this that I don't even notice the double clicking anymore 🙈 Doesn't make any sense at all...
Thank you for helping me digest this sir.

Thanks :) Let's gooo
That was the best tutorial that i've ever seen online. You did everything perfectly. Holy crap was that a hard topic but you totally nailed it my guy
Thanks! Happy to help! But there's still a lot of room to improve. :)
THIS is how you do a tutorial. Intuitive, no fat, no flim flam. Just useable info. Thanks!
I hope they update the background simulation a bit to feel more lived in, like being able to comm random vessels for unmarked missions or just people talking about lore or current events in the universe, use an AI voice program to make it cheap and saturate the world with many things to talk about with random npcs/ learn about individual npcs and potentially make friends with pilots that could be persuaded to join your faction to add to the experience!
Not that there are mods to address everything you mentioned here but if you haven't there are a good deal of mods that massively change the sandbox. I play with dynamic relations and VRO for example and that has wars starting and ending all the time given who trades with who, who attacks who, who takes what area of space, etc so its constantly adapting and changing depending on current events much like real life politics. VRO massively changes mechanics and REALLY (IMO) gives life to combat. Added ships, tons of weapons, complete revamp of damage, shields, hull, flight dynamics, etc. Base game is fun, sure but to really enjoy x4 long term mods will go a long way. (Also DLCs if you haven't gotten those too ofc)
@@dontblink9445 i still need the boron expansion, and yeah i use pretty much the same mods, i just wish they would implement a way to mod more than one single ship at a time (talking about boosting the stats of ships ingame) kinda like how you can save presets of loadouts for ships i wish there was a way to save presets for modded weapons/shields/ etc even if the stats vary id like to have that little extra edge to my ships but u have to micro everything in the shipyard which is annoying
Bought the game because of this video. Was worried about the learning curve but you make the game interesting to learn! Looking forward to the space adventure :D Thank you
You're welcome! Once you get the basics down and the game opens up you'll have a blast. :)
Great guide for beginners like me. Thanks!
You're welcome! :) If you have any questions just ask. I also have 3 follow-up guides to this one if you didn't already notice.
A great beginners course. Helps on returning to the game too. Only one caveat... left handed players do not all use wsad. Personally i have to map all controls with my left hand using the numeric keypad. Up down left right is mapped to numbers 4,8,5,6 with all other keyboard mappings bound to the left of the keyboard. This is my standard wsad.
Thanks a lot, this explained everything really well. I figure out some things by myself with next to zero guidance when I started yesterday, but couldn't find missions, and didn't know the docking computer was *actually* good (I come from Elite Dangerous where it's just slow and not worth the space in your ship). This is the kind of content that should honestly be featured by the devs to help new players, it would really expand how many people play this game.
Thanks for the nice feedback! :) The devs just retweeted my video and shared it here on RUclips. And yes, the docking computer is actually good. It's some kind of X-universe trope already because even the first game had this gadget. Without it docking always takes up way too much time - guess it's working as intended.
@@WatchMysh Is it possible that no missions spawn initially? I just did the highway loop and I see none of those yellow icons anywhere. I was eyeing the map as I was zooming and nothing at all.
@@metalsynkk Weird. I always see them. Another guy wrote a comment here about the same issue and he solved it by removing some filters. Maybe check your map filter settings? Perhaps the problem lies there :) Also check the mission offers list on the left. All missions pop up there, too.
@@WatchMysh They just took a while to spawn it seems. Did a few more loops and kept a good eye on the mission offers, and I got plenty over time. Eventually thought I'd be good enough to do one of those for lockboxes in enemy territory, boy was I mistaken... got too used to being powerful in other games. Anyhows, thanks again for the video, helped out a lot! Gonna mess around some more, it's hella fun albeit sometimes still confusing.
Also only got 1 mission my entire fly thru that disappeared by the time I finished all the jump Gates. Also noticed since I use the Shift-Space fly mode, that any time I moved my mouse while on a highway it would drop me off of it, took me time to figure out to disable this while on highways, especially when alt-tabbing out of the game. The maintaining speed while in menus which is showed at the end of the video was super helpful, wish it was mentioned prior to highway jumping would have made things easier.
1:22 I like how so much effort was made to raise the attention to the newer more new player friendly starts and hide the less new player friendly sandbox starts. Oh well. 😆
very nice guide especially suited for occasionally players (but not only those...) thanks a lot!
Happy to help! Thanks! :)
Helpful! Time to learn this damn game (been meaning to bite into it for ages).
Happy to help. Hf! :) It's great once you know your way around.

Love the Tutorial i started Yesterday with all 3 tutorials. keep up the good work. I will follow this video series. Thank you😉
More will be coming soon :)
Excellent starter guide - concise and thorough
Thanks :)
Fantastic video
I wish space games would use a wheel menu instead of having tons of controls. So instead of pressing shift+ x, y or z, just hold 1 button and select what you want to do. It could save the player from memorizing tons of keys.
And I'm talking about using this as an alternate option, not something that is forced.
Great tutorial, very helpful.
Thanks :)
Not saying this would not be useful, but it's mostly a console way of doing things. PC control schemes care less about how complicate it is to remember all the keys and more on how fast you can do things after you do.
Thank you very much MYSH. I've come for the WT content but the X series is something I've also always wanted to get into. Hope I'll get X4 and its dlcs in the summer sales.
You're welcome! :) I'll do some more WT related content soon-ish™ - but I guess most you folks like games from the whole "sim-sphere", too. Like X4, DCS, UBOAT and so on.
@@WatchMysh Oh my will you also be making an Uboat series in the future? looking forward to it.

Excellent video!

10/10 experience. Accept mission to take dude to his ship. Target ship wont stop moving and is faster than me so I cant dock. Cancel Mission
lol. Sounds familiar.
I played the first X game 20 years ago, thought I would give X4 a try, but I am totally overwhelmed, the UI is so complicated. I bought the Boron DLC and started as a Boron as I always loved them. But during the first mission, It took me 9 hours to find out that I had to discover a missing gate connection in Watchful Gaze. So stupid, I swear the mission did not state that. Being totally new to X4 I have spent 20 hours playing and have pretty much the same amount of money and the starting ship. I am therefore very grateful for this series, now on the next video!
Happiness is building your first Asgard and planting it (with an Osaka support squadron) at the incoming gate from a Xen sector to watch it eat K's all day long... then start a scrap business and farm those annoying ai's for profit.
As for key binding... I bind the easy to use buttons for combat where speed is needed. I have that side key set to "match target speed" rather than zero. I found that very handy in a fight since the new enemy attack patterns have a lot of speed changes. T for get closest target and R is set to fire primary because the mouse wheel is not great for pressing.
Key with X4 if you're a noob is to get in and start playing, avoid combat for a while because you can die fast early on and build some piloting and maneuvering skills either through exploration (if you have a fast ship) or mining/trading. Follow the mission line for your start for a while to give you some goals... and learn the complex UI. Once you know you're way around the UI you'll be ready to start tackling more complex activities.
Ok clearly the Xenon are monitoring youtube... I post about farming Xenon and they turn around and send an I, 6 K's and about a million S's and M's against that gate fleet. I'd not lost a L yet but lost 4 Behemoths before I realized they were attacking and teleported into the Asgard to use the main guns on them. (for some reason the AI captains don't use the main guns... very odd).
Thank you. I just got the game on Steam and really want to get into it.
You're welcome! :) Shouldn't take you long with this guide. There are three more parts of it if you didn't already notice.
Past two saves i've gone for Untested Explorer, It's slow going indeed but wouldn't have it any other way. =]
In regards to hotkeys, i only change one, i bind the e-brake from Backspace over to the 'tilde' above the 'tab' key, so full throttle and brake are not opposite sides of the keyboard.
Great great video! Thanks a lot!
This combat looks really cool.
very helpful, thank you
You're welcome! :)
this should be included straight into the game
thx m8!
Wow this game is more than I expected.
Thanks for stopping by! :) What did surprise you?
Amazing guide
Thanks :)
Short and to the point, as a guide should be. I gave up on the in-game tutorials as they kept bugging out, and after the 4th restart I just had enough.
Thanks :) That was the goal: get people into the game as fast and easy as possible.
X4 was on sale today and this helped a lot, thanks. I did the initial tutorials, but the first one took 3 tries to get used to the flight mechanics lol. I think Spacebourne has better space combat; though this game felt kind of similar.
Hi and thanks! :) X4 is more of a strategy game than a space combat sim. But you can try to get into some different styles like boom and zoom in decoupled mode with splil mk4 engines.
7 hours in, and I had a helluva time finding any missions. I found a few I could do, but some were utter BS that destroyed my ship the moment I get near. If you get a mission that says to destroy a mine, don't use auto pilot, fly in and drop out a few kilometers away, then slowly approach until the ?'s turn into something legible for you to target. I also didn't like the fact, that there is no story to follow, it just plops you in a station expecting you to know WTF to do lol. Doing the tutorials and this video helped. Once I started scouting around, 2 enemy ships caught up with me, even though I was in travel mode, and destroyed my ship. Time to quit for the day lol.
Excellent instructions on how to get accustomed to the game was easy to understand. Outstanding work.
Thank you :)
awesome! thx!

Yep. I totally thought this key was universal...
In a week I've already clocked 45 hours. It really is as good as Terran Conflict for me
I purchased this game about a year ago and immediately requested a refund. Seemed a little rough. I watched your "Don't sleep on X4.." video and thought it was a different game so I purchased it, again. When I found out it was the same I tried to refund again.. total play time < 30 minutes total from both purchases. Apparently Steam will auto deny on a 2nd purchase regardless of time spent playing. So.. I figure it out or I wasted some money. Watching your video has me on the right track and I'm actually seeing the potential. I appreciate your work on these.
Standard X4 experience lol. It's definitely a kinda rough game to get into if you didn't play any of the previous games. But once you learn how to play around its flaws it's a unique experience in my opinion. :)
