Did this a couple of years ago on the RHDR. Phil is an excellent tutor and very patient with people. A must experience for anyone with an interest in railways.
Thanks Michael glad you enjoyed the experience that's what we like too hear at rh&dr and thanks for the compliment on tutoring as you know it's alot too take in driving a romney engine but thanks again hope too see you on the railway in the future
Hi Phil if your the driver in the video I can't remember if I said thank you to you on the day, if not then I would like to say thank you if I did then thank you again. I am hoping to be back in a couple of years for the gold course
Interesting fact: up until 2015, this was not a tourist railway. Despite its small size and gauge, it was used as a legitimate commuter and freight line.
@@TheSteamdriver Just as soon as this Covid thing is over. I've built a modle stationary steam engine which i play with every now and then. But i would say thats nothing to driving one.
The Romney Hythe and Dymchurch Railway is Located in the county of Kent in England the line runs from the town/village of new romney to hythe in one direction and in the other it runs to the coastal town/village of Dungeness. I hope this is helpful
Take it from someone who's worked on amusement park steam, you can't leave the firebox door open that long looking to see what you should do, you draw too much cold air over the fire. You have to get a firing pattern and stick with it, like working clockwise from the left side to the front and around to the right, fill in the middle and finish up dumping some in the back corners and in front of the door - bang, bang, bang, done in under a minute. That's the way its done, son.
Jesus man, it is a driving experience. He isnt gonna understand a firing pattern at first and i don’t think anyone is. You dont have to cry about it, blimey
It actually took me less than that to look it up. If you go for the silver option it costs £320 per person I can recommend it but you do share the course with I think 2 other people. The Gold Course where you only share the course with 1 other person costs £480 but you have to do the silver course first before you can do the gold. I did the silver course last time and I am thinking of maybe in a few years of going for the gold. I hope that makes sense
I disagree about the gloves as I have had them for years and they are still holding up well compared to some other gloves I have had. The unconfident hand I will agree with because I have never done anything like that before

Yes I was your driver for that day and not a problem as long as you enjoyed your self that's what we like too hear
I enjoyed it very much and I wish I could visit it more often
All Aboard. All Aboard. Enjoy the ride.
You're a really useful engine.

Yep and it was also apparently responsible for bringing down a luftwaffe plane
Isnt it still used for school runs as well?
No that stopped I think in 2015
@@TheSteamdriver Yes. That's what I said.
You're a really useful railway.
I'd love to do this. It really looks like your flying along there.
It really was a fantastic experience I recommend doing it if you get the chance

Where do I find this place? I really want to visit that place once in my life

Wow
Is that digital device a speedometer if not how does the driver know how fast they are going
Yes it is a speedo. If that wasn't there then I am sure they would know somehow, a lot of steam locos on other heritage railways don't have speedos.
@@TheSteamdriver cool thank you for replying
Your welcome

@@bradf2803 he’s not crying about it, he’s giving him a simple tip and sharing his knowledge, chill out and stop being so sensitive.
@@eliteproductions7636 I mean it is a footplate experience so it’s not like he will be doing this every week 😂
@@bradf2803 cool? Still, he's sharing his knowledge, maybe in a tad rude way, but leave him be.
How much was this to do I'm interested in doing this if they still do
It was a birthday present so I am not sure exactly but give me 5 mins or so I can find out
