As I personally stated before by 1/2 a year prior, the locomotive featured in the beginning of this official video showing the art of driving a steam-driven railway locomotive certainly does apparently happens to be very shockingly surprisingly noticably locomotive #9017 certainly happens to be just 1 of the steam-driven railway locomotives in the officially well-knowingly obviously obvious Great Britain section of my own official DVD that's basically titled The Best of World Steam with narration by Peter Fairhead himself!
Thanks, Clive, reminds me of my firing days at 70A and later, Basingstoke in the 1960s. I'm now in West Oz and frequently correspond with one of your other firemen, Robbie Lee, who's here also. A nice trip down memory lane.
Thank you so much for this wonderful video. I was lucky enough 26 years ago for my 50th birthday, to be given a training course with live on the Bluebell Railway. A day I shall never ever forget. I also arranged Clives liability insurance covers.
Marvellous, the voices compliment each order. Thr insight into the responceability of the team on the footplate, is a eye opening. Thank you, Patrick Speaight
I've especially wanted to mention that I personally saw this very same steam-driven railway tender locomotive known as by the number 9017 throughout the opening montage of 1 of the sections in 1 of the movies by TELERAIL in my collection of movies on DVD titled the Best of World Steam that'd been narrated by Peter Fairhead who kindly gave lots of different types of information 'bout each of the steam-driven railway locomotives!
I worked on the p way for 20 odd years , this is the man who i wish id met for a chat , many drivers from the defunct Guildford shed , but none as free with information and stories . Long may he do what he loves . 👍🏴
I’ve been an American railroader for over 20 years. We always say that you’re as good as your last move. You can have a thousand atta boys but it’s the one oh $hit that is your nemesis.
What an interesting and amazing man Clive is ... his deep experience and knowledge often quite surprising as well. Some of the anecdotes often quite funny. He paints the picture in well chosen phrase that the layman can understand but at the same time educates and advises ... very enjoyable video indeed. And of course hats off to Clive's daughters too who clearly know their stuff ... but after all, they have a clever dad. Great video
Better than I was but still gonna take some time to fully recover from this as really depressed. But im gonna try and make sure it doesnt impact on my channel as got plans for filming stuff this month plus maybe a surprise or two. However it wont be Clive Groome and the big four as no plans with that for the moment.
The Art of Firing can be found here, ruclips.net/video/1coPT7D6p4U/видео.html As for the second part of the big 4 that hasnt been uploaded yet but it's expected to later in the year, issues popped up earlier this year by certain individuals who were stealing then editing my videos to include offensive comments about people with autism and adding in clips of people with down syndrome before posting on a spam youtube channel.
Oh no. It is a dirty and hard work, and not meant for women. A woman can do it as a hobby dedicating to it some of her time in some periods of her life - but she should not get it as her job.
Well there's something we have in common I tell people it's a rolling bomb all the time, and the little kids I just tell him it's a tea kettle on wheels LMAO
Provided the right people are working on the footplate plus you keep a watch on the boiler water level & you know exactly what to do if a problem was to arrise they can be driven safely.
Those brake blocks are very thin they should of been changed . Most brake blocks on a railway vehicle have ware indicators on them , little semi circular patterns . That’s how you know when to change them.
Mr Groome mentioned his experience on a Q1 freight engine and how the fire would not produce sufficient heat. He said that it often comes to your mind to pray when in such difficulties but it never did any good for him and he knows for he had prayed often. What Mr Groome fails to understand is that God often answers prayer by imparting wisdom and so out of His abundant goodness God perhaps gave Mr Groome the wisdom to know how to manage the fire to keep the train running...and so did indeed answer His prayer. To expect a miracle in answer to prayer, as implied by Mr Groome, borders on fanaticism and is certainly not the way of walking with God as instructed and spoken of in the Bible. For the Bible is the book to help man understand the mind of God and discover the truth about God, rather than for man to invent a God of their own imagination, which is so often the case these days, who they then perceive fails to answer their prayer; because it was based on a lie about God. God can and does bring about the impossible in answer to prayer but not when there are ordinary means to solve a difficulty, then God kindly and liberally gives man wisdom to solve the difficulty by the means at hand, such as putting a little bit of coal in the right place at the right time. To understand this more, please see James chapter 1, verses 5 to 8, noting that God will only answer your prayers if you believe with your heart that God will give you wisdom and so having faith in God to do so when asked. One vital fact underpinning all of this is the truth that God offers such daily assistance to those that have repented and believed in Christ and His work of redemption on the cross and so have become a child of God. For God promises that those who give their hearts to God will observe His perfect ways (Proverbs 23.26) and so experience the daily joy of walking with the living God.
Such a shame that the audio cuts out at 37:40 spoiling the last 3 minutes approx ☹️ "And whistle... whistle.... whistle... whistle..." "Pheep!" You can tell he's processing so many new things that his brain is cutting out extraneous input. I can remember learning to drive a car & at first a passenger could talk to me and I simply wouldn't hear them! Just like the whistle incident here. The thing I noticed was the guy teaching him didn't get louder with each "Whistle...". A lesser instructor would've been shouting by the fourth "Whistle..." but this chap understood why he hadn't heard him and knew that eventually the student would hear him when there was "space in the queue". A sign of a good teacher, I thought. Edit; Is that Fireman called "Bob" perchance? 😆 🚂🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃
Apologies for that but there was copyright issues with regard to some of the music, as for the bit at the end of the video it was only music you could hear so there was no soundtrack of the steam locos. Nothing to worry about.
RIP Clive Groome one of the best
You will be missed by many
A pleasure to had known you 🙏🙏
R.I.P Clive . Top man . True gent. Definition of a railwayman .
What a brilliant character - what a marvellous person!
My father was a driver on LMS before during and after WW2, out of Saltley depo Birmingham.
On long runs drivers would often share the firing.
As Clive describes his discipline as a train driver I feel it is grossly underestimated by many people.
I know my work colleague said to me you just sit there and it goes he didn't have a clue

BRAVO!
A man so unassuming and passionate about his duties, A pleasure to watch.
What a top gent Mr Groome, old school at its best....

Always something to learn about firing and driving a steam locomotive. Always!
A fantastic insight into the profession of engine driver. This man clearly knows his stuff!
Lovely documentary. I had the pleasure of attending a firing and driving course with Clive about thirty years ago; one of my best ever experiences.
Me too
Thank you so much for this wonderful video. I was lucky enough 26 years ago for my 50th birthday, to be given a training course with live on the Bluebell Railway. A day I shall never ever forget. I also arranged Clives liability insurance covers.
Delightful chap was Clive - as is Mick Blackburn, who was seen firing for him.
I went on his courses up to level 6. He was a great instructor never panicked.
RIP Clive Will Be Missed❤
Clive is such an interesting man. Knows his stuff
It's a special man who Fathers Daughters . Daughters who are at home on the footplate are even more special. What a family.
Really great stuff, Great Grandfather was a driver. Massively looking forward to the tsw steam development.

In the mid-'90s I met Clive Groome's shedmaster from Nine Elms. He remembered him very clearly.
The driver reminded me of Peter Benson who played Bernie Scripps in Heartbeat
Absolutely fascinating and informative, a real eye opener, thank you.
Very interesting video, thanks for sharing. Dave
Fascinating, so interesting, thanks!
I could listen to him and talking about steam engines alday
Deeply will be missed by many , a true railwayman , and a gent . The SGT pepper of nine elms

Thanks David! So glad to see this back! Hope you’re feeling a little better about things now 😉

Been a while since we last saw the full video. Good though seeing Clive showing off his skills driving steam engines alongside his daughters.
"Man and machine"
RIP Clive Groome
Extremely interesting. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it!
And on the other hand I'd love to come over and get a chance to pull the throttle on that one
Fantastic. Couldn’t find Part 2 of his Big Four Art of Firing. Frustrating as I grew up with the ex- L.M.S. engines in Lancashire.

Great film, and great to see his daughters following in his footsteps. There are still hardly any female firemen and drivers, and that needs o change.
Oh no. It is a dirty and hard work, and not meant for women. A woman can do it as a hobby dedicating to it some of her time in some periods of her life - but she should not get it as her job.
You guys are welcome to come over and run the one I'm crew on have to be on the other side though LOL SP 2472 at the Golden gate railroad museum
Well done gentleman. What I'm missing is the use of Expansion when the train is on is speed. Glk
Well there's something we have in common I tell people it's a rolling bomb all the time, and the little kids I just tell him it's a tea kettle on wheels LMAO
I love the steam locomotive IV always said to my Mrs you are ridding a bomb
Provided the right people are working on the footplate plus you keep a watch on the boiler water level & you know exactly what to do if a problem was to arrise they can be driven safely.
My grandad was best friends with him
👍👍👍

Is that the demonstration of driving a steam locomotive

Why such a long, needless essay? God has nothing to do with steam locomotives
