    I own this radio. Everyone should own a Stryker. It's the pretty girl you take to the dance. However, want to annoy? Pick any Stryker roger beep and turn it on.

      I love my Stryker SR-955 ... I have owned a lot of export radios over the years , and this one is by far one of my favorites , and if you can't annoy them with those roger beeps ... you can always make your own roger beep ... lol

    Clarifier can be set to work on tx and rx and the step can also be changed….most will never use these settings but if you band surf they are there….unfortunately for free banding I prefer my licoln 2+…..much easier to navigate vfo style by a simple press of the ch selector where the 955 requires menu diving….both radios are nearly identical mechanically but the Lincoln is more “amateur” than the 955 which feels like a fancy cb to me but still a good radio regardless

    • @RaccoonsRadioRanch
      @RaccoonsRadioRanch  2 года назад

      I argued with myself for 2 years between the Stryker 955 and the Lincoln II + because I wasn't sure which one I wanted. (one reason was because I used an HR2510 for 16 years, and that is a great radio) So I did a lot of researching , review reading , and studying of their designs ... and in the end I went with the Stryker 955 . One reason was because it's a fancy CB ... lol .
      But also because it's knobs & display are much bigger ... making it easier to see and use . Plus it has some nice features that the Lincoln doesn't have ... and most important is that the Stryker 955 is an excellent performing and sounding radio . I know guys that have both radios , and I can always tell when they're on their Stryker because their audio sounds better ... I don't regret my choice at all .

      @@RaccoonsRadioRanch I also have both and enjoy both….and I ran 2510s for years myself…nearly all of them got the chipswitch mod and a couple also got the final swapped out to the Motorola part….and yes the Stryker does have a unique sound….the magic is the 2 final outputs are not modulated they simply amplify power…this takes the stress off of voltage regulators and modulation circuits….problem is most techs treat them like connex 3300 and try to volt everything to max and screw the radio up….and while they are advertised to do 90 watts in my testing I’ve found the best results if they are kept below 80 watts….that’s for both the 955 and 655…..I’ve got good experience with stryker radios since I’ve ran them since the 440 model….I was actually sent a pre production 440 to run the bugs out of as well as a 655 when they came out….I also assisted with the redesign of the a10 antenna….so I’ve got a somewhat fair amount of knowledge on some of the Stryker stuff….but that’s a story for another day and I don’t like beating my own drum very much….90% of the time I run my 955 but if I’m going to be doing a lot of roaming from 12 to 10 and back again I’ll run the Lincoln solely for the ease of navigating frequencies….if they could melt a 955 and Lincoln2+ into one radio it would be a show stopper 😂😂😂

    I’m confused.
    What’s the difference between the Stryker SR~955HP & the Stryker SR-955HPC?
    According to Stryker’s web site there is no difference, but why the different labels?

    • @RaccoonsRadioRanch
      @RaccoonsRadioRanch  Месяц назад +1

      I've asked myself the same thing , and what I found when I researched it online is that according to Stryker they've only made an SR-955HPC , and over the years they made a few upgrades to that . So there's a Version 1 , and a Version 2 of the HPC . But "They're saying" (not me) that there's never been a Stryker SR-955HP version , only the SR-955HPC version .

    Very nice radio indeed. I never owned one, but see them a lot on RUclips and i really would like to own one in the future. For now i have a 25 year old Kenwood radio which works fine. And i hope it will get me some more years :)

      I love older radios to be honest . 👍🏻
      I have quite a few of them around here. As long as the radio is working well , and you're happy with it , I wouldn't update it . I like tube , and solid state equipment way better than the newer surface mount stuff . And if something goes wrong with it , it's easier for you to work on . I hope you get many more years of use out of that Kenwood .

    But you didn't show the auto squelch or the setting that disables the radio if your swr goes to high (which you can change that setting) and also if your voltage is to high it will also shut the radio down. Just wanted to get that out there. I also own a 955 and love it.

    • @RaccoonsRadioRanch
      @RaccoonsRadioRanch  2 года назад

      From what I've seen , in order to get those bands you have to go inside the radio and remove a resistor . You can't miss it because it has an arrow pointing to it . The only arrow on the whole board . I had to look it up because my radio was already like this when I bought it . I did not do anything to it except take it out of the box and hook it up . And to be honest , I recommend that if you want this done , you might want to have a Tech do it for you , unless you are a Tech ... lol

    is this the worlds most over rated radio?

    • @RaccoonsRadioRanch
      @RaccoonsRadioRanch  2 года назад +1

      Not at all , over the past 26 years I've had multiple radios that I've used on the air . RCI 2950 , 2970 , 2980 ... Galaxy Pluto , and a Galaxy 2527 . The Voyage VR-9000 , and the President HR2510 ... which I used for 15/16 years . And that's not including all of the regular 40 channel radios that I've had , or still have ... and out of all of those , the Stryker SR-955's performance abilities are outstanding . And it's DEFINITELY the best radio to use on Sideband . So no , this radio is not "over rated" .

      @@RaccoonsRadioRanch all the equipment reports i get.... i hear very few strykers, literally only one sounded great.

      @@BadassWeldingVideos ... Honestly , I spent 2 years researching all of the radios that were on the market before buying my Stryker to see what one would be the best for *ME* ... and it turned out to be the Stryker 955 . I don't know what you're hearing out there , but I get nothing but great reports when I'm on the air with my Stryker . Even the Stryker's that I've been hearing out there sound good. ALL the work on my radios is done professionally , or not at all , so maybe that's the difference . I don't screwdriver my radios .
      In my experience , the radios that I've found to be "Over Rated" , are the RCI2970N series . No matter which one of my radios I'm talking on , every RCI2970N series radio that I've heard out there has been off frequency on Sideband , even right out of the box . It's so common , that when I hear someone off frequency , I know that's what they're talking on . So I ask them what they're using , and I'm always right ... lol
      You're obviously not a fan of the Stryker sound , so what kind of radio are you running ?

    • @BadassWeldingVideos
      @BadassWeldingVideos 2 года назад

      @@RaccoonsRadioRanch i have nothing against them- i just dont hear them on the air but i see them all over youtube... i run a lincoln ii+ in the moble and run an icom 7300 and yeasu ft 891 at the house (i do portable work with all my radios).

      @@BadassWeldingVideos I almost bought the Lincoln II + (because I love President radios) ... but I decided to take a chance with the Stryker , which I don't regret . I have a Yaesu as well , I have the FT-897D . Both the Stryker & the Yaesu are used as my base radios. They're also the only surface mount styled radios I own at the moment . I love older radios , so I have a bunch of those that I use from time to time as well . If you look through my videos you'll see a couple of videos that I made with a few of them as well .
