Raccoon's Radio Ranch

Добавлен 5 июл 2020
Thanks for checking out Raccoon's Radio Ranch . I talk about C.B. , and Ham Radio related topics in my videos. I was originally bitten by the radio bug when I was a kid , back in 1978 , and I've remained interested since . In fact I still talk on the radio everyday . I've also been a licensed Ham operator since 2004 . I like to share my 40 plus years of radio knowledge with other people ... hopefully encouraging others to become involved with CB & Ham radio too . Because a lot of people don't know it , but the radio hobby is still out there , and there are still people talking on the air waves everyday .
I upload new videos weekly , but due to a crazy schedules at home ... I upload them whenever I can .
So please make sure to subscribe , and turn on the notification bell so you're always notified whenever I upload new videos .

Awesome I didn't know that.
To be honest I was surprised when I found it out. That's why I thought it would be good to share it with all of you.
Wow thanks for the info
No problem , you're very welcome .
Somthing I didn't know! Thanks again, hope you're doing well!!
Thanks Luke , I'm doing ok.
I found it really hard to hear you, with the music blaring.
2023: President George was introduced. Best of the best. Other than George. -President Walker III: probably best AM/FM radio -President McKinley: best AM/SSB -Uniden 885: best/only hybrid
This video was made July of 2022 ... and uploaded in September of 2022 . I'm not sure if some of those radios were in production yet , or not ... at the time this was made . But they're definitely good radios now .
I'm from uk and enjoyed your video Thanks for sharing 🌞🎙️
You're welcome , and thank you for watching it .
What do you know about the Lafayette HB 200 I have one that's been boxed up for decades. Original mike, 8 channel. Inspection tag on the back is March 9 1966
Hi Jake , to be honest I don't know much about the Lafayette HB 200 . But I will say that if it's been boxed up for decades , it's probably going to need the electrolytic capacitors in it updated .
@@RaccoonsRadioRanch appreciate the response.
Ahh the days of CB glory i was there as a young teen in the 70s. My best friend and i put up CB and TV antennas, towers, rotors, we even saved enough for our first radios. We both became electrical engineers, CB helped us turn a hobby into a career. Even the movies glorified CB in the day. Today i am an amature radio operator in medical retirement. Give radio a try guys and gals, it can be a great hobby/career!! By the way my first CB was a bright orange Sony Walkie-Talkie (H/T) with 2 watt output, later my first base station was a Teaberry. My good friend Sherman had a Realistic base station.
Fantastic videos
Kraco, Lafayette and Sears CB’s too
Cool video 🙂👍
Great video thanks for making and posting 🙂👍
Do you ever talk about the nato 2000
Hi Joe , to be honest until you asked this , I had never heard of the Nato 2000 before. So I looked it up and noticed that it's a British CB radio. I'm in America , so I don't know much about British CB radios. But maybe I'll check into them in the near future.
Johnson Paul Davis Jeffrey Thompson Jeffrey
Others peak powers or dead keys
I still dont understand what half of that stuff means, or know HOW to really USE it
Very interesting. I obtained an M6C chrome version of the original mike. Sounds very similar to the 575. I see they're still selling those original boards on ebay by postage to the UK is expensive.
Gotta love the woodgrain! I have a similarly styled Kraco myself, mine has plastic fake chrome!
I don't know if it's because of nostalgic reasons, or because of the equipment itself . But I love the fake wood grain & chrome look the older radios have . I first became interested in CB radio in the 70s , when I was 10 years old . Listening to my parents and their friends talking on the radio every night . That's a look I wish the radio companies would bring back again , but at the same time , with the LCD screens and the menus ... I don't think it would be the same .
+++🤩+++I 🐸🦘WAS INTO CB RADIO🤩 FROM 1977 UNTIL 19877 BECASE I THOUGHT ❓❓❓ THAT IT WAS GREAT 🤣 + MOST PEOPLE IN ADELAIDE+++SOUTH AUSTRALIA 🐸🦘WERE BITTEN BY THE CB BUG+++I 🐸 HAD MANY CHATS ON MY CHANNEL (WHICH WAS USB 27.275 MEGS) AND I 🐸 (PIOMEE RADIO 626) COULD BE FOUND THERE+++👍+++IT USED 2 BE MY (HOME CHANNEL) + I WAS AVAILIABLE ON THAT FREQUENCY+++GONE 😠 ARE THOSE DAYS+++NOW IT'S COMPUYER 🛃 4 ME + I 🐸 JUST (SURF THE WEB 🛂+++OH GEE I CERTAINLY MISS 😢 CB DAYS+++☹
I wish more people were on the air these days & I'm a HAM myself & I like to get on the CB. Whenever I road trip I make calls on my CB just for fun and see if I get anything. Usually on a road trip I get at least 1 person to come back to me.
İ have bought the President Washington and President Himalaya antenna and from the factory it is set to 40 watts. That no:1spot radio TRE gives you just AM. My President Washington gives me AM / FM / USB and LSB. Get yourself a President George II or a Washington. You can even add cooling fans item: ACMD901 and you will have the most powerful rig! 73!!!
don't get a radio without Upper/Lower SIDEBAND ;) just sayin.... if you gunna use it to talk to the truckers and the peeps you have with you in pilot vehicles... then yea, the one without SSB would be fine, but if you gunna wanna sit there int he tracktor out there in the field one night plowing shootin skip... you will want one that DOES SIDEBAND....... hear me striker why would you even put out a radio that doesn't do multibands well not bands, MODES ALL THE AVAILABLE MODES... sigh... this video will problably start to get more new views cuz like SKIP IS ON ITS WAY BACK!!! SUNACTIVITY IS INCRESING that means SKIP IS GUNNA GET BETTER Even... have a wonderful EVERY THING !!! HEAR/SEE YA AROUND!
around 6:55 wazzaup with the subliminal attempt at the striker?? hummmm seriuosly it don't have USB/LSB or SIDEBAND IT AINT A VALID CHOICE :) for a '''skip talkn' rig'' ....
2k $ for a CB??? you can get an ALL BAND ALL MODE HAM RADIO FOR LESS THAN THAT AND IT WILL WORK 3x at least BETTER!! :) just syaing... but yea... sigh.... pretty sure my STALKER Was a version or 2 newer than that one, I THINK I REMEMBER STALKER22 not 20 ... hummm I should search up the image for a stalker22 and see if that is what I am remememememebering in my head, but eh... already have many tabs open lol
There's no way I'd ever pay $2000 for a CB radio . I "might" pay that for an HF radio , but not for a CB radio .
@@RaccoonsRadioRanch oh me neither, I don't even think I would do a 2k RADIO till after I needed to """find""" ways to SPEND $ lol ;) hehehe when 800 or so will pick up a nice 100 watt talk any band any mode mobile, then spend 300 on some good coax and put that other 1k into a TOWER and NICE MULTIBAND antenna ;) yea, thassa how I would do that 2k... maybe even just get one of those big HF screwdriver antennas that mount on the reciever hitch and talk in the driveway in the car lol hahaha
paused... my first cb was a COURIER REBEL23 !! my TEABERRY that was stolen from me probabally is on that list too, sigh... that was a wonderful radio...
my old TEABERRY that was stolen from me was a STALKER202 .... the dude I got it from was a radio/electronics tech... he worked on recording studio equipement and had his own studio... it had an upgraded RX CHIP and had upgraded SSB TX chips...
I’m confused. What’s the difference between the Stryker SR~955HP & the Stryker SR-955HPC? According to Stryker’s web site there is no difference, but why the different labels?
I've asked myself the same thing , and what I found when I researched it online is that according to Stryker they've only made an SR-955HPC , and over the years they made a few upgrades to that . So there's a Version 1 , and a Version 2 of the HPC . But "They're saying" (not me) that there's never been a Stryker SR-955HP version , only the SR-955HPC version .
Hello.... I am new to Amateur Radio and I would like to ask if you would recommend this model radio as my first shack Radio ? Thank You
Honestly , I really like the Yaesu FT-897d , and yes I would recommend it to anyone . They did discontinue the 897 shortly after I bought mine . So if you want one you'll have to buy a used one some place like QRZ.com , QTH.com , or on eBay. If you would like to buy one new, they are still making the mobile version of this radio , which is the Yaesu FT-857 , also a really good radio.
I have my FT-897D, which I got when it first came out, on the table now. I just got my LDG Z-11 Pro yesterday. This was before I saw your video. I have been trying some functions today and really like this combo. The more I understand this combo. the better I like this. Thank you for this video with a similar setup that I have.
You're welcome Matt . Thank you for watching the video . I've been running the FT-897d , with the LDG Z-11 Pro on a Carolina Windom antenna for over 10 years now , and it still impresses me to this day.
@@RaccoonsRadioRanch Thank you for the reply and information on the Carolina Windom antenna. Is there a setting on the 897D that I must set to operate the Z-11? I can't find anything on it. It doesn't seem to make a difference in the amp setting. I just left it to "Off". There isn't a "LAMP" setting like on other Yaesu models.
@@Matt-qq8dh you just run your antenna to your Z-11 , an then a patch cord from the Z-11into the HF coax hook-up on the back of your 897 . If your Z-11 has the battery pack in it , make sure it has batteries in it . If it doesn't have a battery pack in it , then you'll have to run it off of a power supply . I'm using an MFJ 25 amp switching power supply called the "Mighty Lite" . It has a negative and positive power posts on the front for running your radio ... and a 5 amp jack on the back which is nice because I just plug my Z-11 pro into the back . So when I turn on my power supply I'm powering my radio and my antenna tuner at the same time .
@@RaccoonsRadioRanch Thank you very much. I will do that. Thank you again for the information.
I've got a cb radio and I've got a 12 volt battery and I have the positive to positive and negative to negative. Straight wired in my bedroom in my trailer, I have an antenna I got from Amazon and ran it out my window and placed the antenna on top of the trailer. Everything seems to work except when I connect the ground to the negative on the battery I push my mic to talk but the cb will go directly back to channel 9. I've also connected the ground to a peice of rebar outside the trailer driven in the ground but it continues to do the same thing. As long as I don't hook up the ground to anything it works but I don't get a good reception and I can't get out on my cb.😢What would you suggest because I want to be able to communicate even short distance. Please help me???

Heck yeah dude, i just got my first car (a '78 Plymouth volare) and i got a Royce CB and im pretty stoked to install it!
I had a nice 40 channel Royce 1-682 , that I always relied on for the mobile . But somehow it vanished on me over the years . Because I don't know where it went to , and I know I didn't let it go because it was very reliable . Anyway , now I use an old RCA Co-Pilot 14T-302 in the mobile . Have fun with your Plymouth Volare, and your Royce .
this guy is a hypocrite, he tells you at 14:16 about the MARS MOD (opening up to use 11mtrs or 27mhz) he says he wouldn't do it, but if you followed his Video when he was showing all the frequencies it will work on, it shows on the Yaesu FT897D screen channel @ 27.105.00 (3:12)................ just be honest pal, your Radio has or had the MARS MOD at the time of making this Video. ----> "YES" loved watching the Video all the same & "YES" i own an FT897D (shhh, with a Mars Mod - but that's me) my advice to Raccoon, speak the truth & no-one will ever pick Bloopers in your Videos................................ please make honest videos from now on so no-one can catch you out!
All FT-897's have the capability to go to 11 meters . So it's not hypocritical to use your 897 to listen in on the other bands . I'm sure that many of us do it . Just because it can go to 11 meters , doesn't mean that it's being keyed up there . I'm also sure that you'll find out that most of the 897's you're buying used these days have probably been MARS modded since the 60 meter band was added after they were manufactured , and ham operators were modding them so that they could key up there . With that said , I have to tell people that they shouldn't be modding their radios to be used outside of their legal operating areas . If I don't , I'll get 100 people telling me in the comment section that I should be saying that in my videos ... versus the one guy who "Picks Bloopers In My Videos" . I'll take that one guys comment over 100 of them repeating the same comment over & over . Thanks for watching the video , I'm glad you liked it ... other than the "Blooper" .
You gotta turn down the background music man.
That is something I have been working on for awhile now . Every time I think I've found the right volume level , someone else tells me that I need to turn it down again . It's a long and slow process . But I brought down pretty good now I think . If you go check out my newest video I think you'll see what I'm talking about .
Nice radio to bad it doesn’t have ssb
I agree with you 100% Brian .
I've a nato 2000 works good with the astatic 575 mic some good dx enjoy good video
The Nato 2000 is a nice radio . I'm glad you liked the video , thanks for watching it.

My first transceiver was a FT101mk2, back in 1972. Great radio. Still using YAESU equipment to this day. G3XYC 73.
I still like my Yaesu radios too . I have a 757GXII , an 897d , and a couple of their ht's . I think they make good radio equipment .
I bought one back in April/May. I had no idea that it did all that! Guess I might need to bring it out, move the Kenwood aside and give it a try! Thanx for the video!
You're welcome Mike . I'm glad you liked it , and that it helped you learn something about the FT-897d . Thanks for watching the video .
Thanks for an informative video! Very helpful and I’ll likely be shopping for my own set up very soon
You're very welcome , I'm glad you liked it . Thank you for the kind words , and I hope that it was helpful enough for you to find the right equipment you'll need to get started . Good luck on your new adventure .
can't forget about the ef Johnson ranger 1.
There have been so many great radios over the years , that the actual list of great vintage radios is just way too big to fit into one "Top 10 Vintage CB Radios" video . I'll have to make another video in the near future featuring 10 different vintage radios to build the list up some more. Thank you for watching the video .
@RaccoonsRadioRanch no problem..the rangers were late 50s early 60s. You needed a receiver but it had the 11m on the band switch.
to bad browning didnt make any commericals...well they didnt i guess haha
I hadn't seen any in my search for CB radio commercials . But maybe they didn't think that they needed to , since their radios seemed to sell themselves ... along with the company's reputation .
i still have a brand new realistic cb walky talkie in the box still..thing is cool.
One of my friends picked up a vintage Realistic CB walkie talkie , and talked over 1 mile away with it .
Would your upside down coffee cup work for a 102” whip as a ground plane I don’t live in a hoa but I don’t have the ability to put up a 20 ft pole
I think you're asking if an upside coffee can would also work for a 102" Whip antenna , and I think it might . Although I've never tried it before ... I did have a friend that talked about mounting a 102" Whip antenna on a coffee can , putting it on his roof , and talking all over the world with it . If you try it out , make sure to let us know how it works out for you .
Great radio! I have two of them. One as a base & one in my truck. Just remember to buy the 1K resistor to put in it.
@ Raccoon's Radio Ranch: Hello. I'm trying to figure out what ADAPTER I need to run a Midland Portable CB Radio 75-822 Model from my car using a TRAM 3500 CB Radio Antenna. I keep ordering the wrong part, and nobody has an answer "so far" at least.
You will need a BNC to SO239 adapter ... here is a link where you can find one . amzn.to/3WGrhvl Hopefully that helps you out .
@@RaccoonsRadioRanch Thank you. I just recently purchased a few radios (let me tell you which ones): President George FCC with SSB/AM/FM, JOPIX Portable CB (like the T-X from the United Kingdom), President Randy II, QYT Portable CB, of course the Midland 75-822, and the Cobra 75 which is on the way. Excited to get into CB. Also got the Stryker External Antenna for Car and the Tram 3500.
@@KMWR1818 That's a nice selection of radios . It's definitely a great start . I'm glad to see that you've decided to get into CB , I hope you enjoy it .
Never knew Cobra made a pocket AM transistor radio. Bet they are rare to find.
I said that exact same thing when I first saw that commercial ... lol.
