WOW THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! My flip-out key from my 2016 Impala broke. I took it to the dealership and they cut the key according to the correct code but it didn't work in the ignition switch. They cut a new one and the second one didn't work. They determined that the ignition switch may have been changed before (I bought it with 16,000 miles in 2016) and was probably the reason the laser cut didn't work. You don't need to program the key if u take the chip out of the old key and put it in the new key. The chip will be a small hard piece of plastic probably with text written on it (bit thicker than a credit card and a bit bigger than 1cm by 0 .5cm). Thanks for the great tutorial on how to replace the blade. The directions I've seen for programming the new fob require you to start the car with the old fob first. How is this done when the old fob is no longer usable?
I have them both, but after I switch the key blade on the second one, it’s original won’t work. Can I use the newly programmed first fob as the programmer key?
I've done it your way twice. It's a PITA. Also, the key I just bought "again" from Amazon (same seller, same exact everything, did a Buy Again) from the old order was DIFFERENT than the last two. They changed the gear/button that the key swings on enough so that it wouldn't work. Had I found this video before all that, it would have been a no-brainer. Just buy a new fab and swap the key blade like in the video.
How did you program it when it doesn't have the electronics core inside?
The new one does have the electronics in it. I programed it in another video.

The pin stayed in mine but the rest of the metal part broke, irreparable?
The blade itself broke? If so, yes.
Will this work on a GMC Terrain? I bought a new fob on amazon (exact same fob model as my current one) got the pin out to take out blank blade but when i got the pin out of the old fob the blade didnt come out like it did with the new fob. Suggestions?
Don't know, the blade should of came out once the pin is removed.
@@cs3performance396 thats what i thought too
Have a question...where do i start on a 5 button shell
I would think that it would be the same as this video.
Video?
@@wendybrogdon1377 your asking a question on this video? This video, I swapped the key blade from 1 key fob to another.
Thanks for the tutorial! This helped lots!
Shannon Fox - happy I could help.
Where did you have your key cut? I tried Walmart, AutoZone, Home Depot, Lowe's, BulbsPlus to no avail. Locksmiths and dealer want $195+
I didn't have the key cut. I took it from the key fob that was broken.
Thank you so much, this has been a life saver.
Your Welcome
Wow! This is amazing! Thank you 🙏!
Happy to help.
I broke the part with the pin...): lol This video helped a lot, thank you!
Your Welcome.
Where did you buy the new key fob?
From an eBay store.
Where on Amazon did you buy the fob?
I did not buy it from Amazon. I bought off eBay a few years ago. The link I had doesn't work anymore. Sorry.
THANK YOU!!! I am going to reverse the fob recall on my SS. I want a flip key, not a lame ass 2 piece key and fob.
Your Welcome. Yea, I don't like the look of the recall key fob either.
What is the name of that little pin
Your using?
Roll pin
Thanks for the great tutorial on how to replace the blade. The directions I've seen for programming the new fob require you to start the car with the old fob first. How is this done when the old fob is no longer usable?
Both key fobs are no longer usable?
I have them both, but after I switch the key blade on the second one, it’s original won’t work. Can I use the newly programmed first fob as the programmer key?
If its been programmed to your car, yes.
Why hammer the pin out when you can replace the whole key by taking it apart?
It takes seconds to pop the roll pin out. You save money by not having the key blade cut.
Far easier to pop the roll pin out (use a roll pin punch) and put the blade from the old key into the new fob and program it.
Any advice if you can't get the pin back in
I would go to your local hardware store and buy a new roll pin. Might be easier then dealing with the old one.
Any other suggestions to get the pin back in easier?
@@coreyd8421 What kind of issue are you having? Hold the roll pin with a long needle nose plier and tap it in with a small hammer.
Where on Amazon did you buy the key fob?
whered you buy the key fob from
eBay
cant we just swap the metal hardware from the old fob?
Give it a try. Just takes minutes to tap a roll pin out and swap the key blade.
I've done it that way twice. PITA. Then found this video. This way is FAR easier. Just get a roll pin punch. Whole set on Amazon for $12.
So the entire key is arm is not supposed to come out?
The key blade is held in with a roll pin.
Worked for me.thanks 👍🏾
Cool!
I have a Malibu so I’m wondering why Chevys keys are always doing this
Maybe a design issue.
Very hard to take the pin out of mine. It keeps feeling like I've expanded the metal pen against the sides and now it wont slide out.
Try from the other side. If the roll pin is bad, go to your local hardware store to buy a new one for the new fob.
@@cs3performance396 I ended up breaking the pin and it fell out in 2 pieces. But it's all good. My key ended up being a little thicker for the hole and it jammed in there real tight. I used a little metal glue and its working great. Thanks.
How do you take apart the whole key fob?
I haven't done it.
What couldi use to replace the pin
I would get another pin. Try your local hardware store, they should have all kinds of pins to replace yours.
Thanks for sharing
No problem. I hope it helped you.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
Your welcome. Glad to help you out.
Does this work for an Audi? 😭😭😭😭😭
Don't know. Haven't tried it.
I am a locksmith please don’t buy the off brand most will go out in About three or four months trust me I know I had about 10 people calling me wanting a new remote all I buy now is real Chevrolet keys !!!!! The car will not crank up and the DEF light will be flashing you will be stuck somewhere !!!
YEs Sir! GM replacement parts for the win.
🙏🏽 thank you
You are so welcome
Where did you get and how much you paid for the key fob ?? Thanks in advance
I purchased these 2 from eBay for around 70 dollars.
@@cs3performance396 awesome thank you buddy really helpful video
@@cs3performance396 one more question... what's that tool that you used to take the pin out and in ? I see the hammer and the piece of wood but I cant really tell what's that took? Thanks in advance
@@cs3performance396 oh I see now is a allen wrench the tool you used to take the pin out, do you know what size is it ?
@@jacobmartinez4109 Sorry, I don't remember. I just found something that was smaller then the pin.
Can’t you just open the key fob and remove the circuit board and swap it
This only takes minutes to do.
Thanks for ur 📹 😎👍
No problem 👍
My key is loose and I want to tighten it up I really wish you would’ve touched on that in the video
Good job
Thanks
THANK YOU!!!
Happy To Help. Thank you for watching.
Thank you!
Your Welcome.
$70?? Man I bought 2 for $10 brand new not even kidding 😂😂
What if my key broke?
Why haven't they made a better fob that this won't break, should have a recall, both of mine have broke on 2016 Equinox.
Ok, but where does the little piece of metal still laying on the table go??????????????
Trash can. If its the piece I think you asking about its a broken part of the old key fob.
@@cs3performance396 bingo...it broke
