      It's ridiculous how much people charge just to do this for somebody 🤷‍♀️ I got quoted $60 per key with two to fix and providing my own shells. That's why I'm watching this video 😂

    Thank you so much for this video. This was the best ever. You made the process so understandable. I couldn't understand why others wanted to pop the pin out of the blade instead of just swapping it out. Thanks especially for the razor blade tip. Before watching your video, I was going to skip the frustration and just pay for it be done at the dealership. But because of your video I know I can "do-it-myself!"

    Thanks mate, just bought a new VF key shell online and did the change over watching your vid. Just went down and tested it on the car and it worked perfectly.

    This was the best video among several that I looked at. The only problem was that the nubs on the button that make everything line up for the key, did not line up in order to just use the old key with all of the other new parts of the new case. I used a Dremel tool to file down the inside slots on the case to finally get things working, to use the old key & button in the new case. The case was advertised to fit my model year, but it wasn't a 100% match.

    The video doesn’t SHOW THE MIST IMPORTANT PART. What is the correct position for the cam inside the key lock mechanism? How is it clocked? Can’t get mine to lock when stowed away.

    Goo video, Vauxhall dealer Arnold Clark in Hanley Stoke on Trent wanted between £300 and £350 for a new programmed key fob.
    I got 2 off Ebay for £7.30 and followed the video instructions, I now have 2 new keys for £7.30 not £600 or £700!

    I don't know what MAP is but this looks the same as my Chevy Sonic fob, with different buttons. I was wondering if using a razor would help in the other videos I watched. Apparently it does!

  • @DanielRichards644
    @DanielRichards644 Год назад +3

    Just did this to 2 remotes for a 2014-15 (not sure which year exactly) Chevy Sonic, that glue on the factory remote made this 10 times the job it needed to be, I cut along the sides like shown in this video and even cut along the bottom (down where the fake chrome key ring ting is) and I got the bottom to pry apart but it still snapped halfway up the battery cutout, I tried prying inside the hole the key head spins in like this video showed but couldn't get anything to budge there, what I ended up doing after the bottom half of the back broke off was I took some very small flat head screw drivers and I slipped them in the groves where the 2 pieces of shell are glued together and used a hammer to carefully drive them toward the top of the shell and was eventually able to break enough of the glue bonds to get the circuit board to fall out.

    This is the best camaro key fob video ever, follow it close and you’ll have a great idea on how to do it yourself. Thank you 🙏. I was able replace mine. I had to break the original one. Once you crack it open it’s easy to put it back together. Watch the video

    • @DanielRichards644
      @DanielRichards644 Год назад

      @@failedfishermanBC I ran into that too, ended up having to use a few small flat head screw drivers like shims to break away more of the glue on the sides of the shell and eventually was able to pry it open enough for the circuit board to fall out.

      @DanielRichards644 Год назад

      for real, I followed that "cut" with the razor blade and it did NOTHING to get the top half of the back to break free and prying in the key hole only bent the plastic, when I pried from the bottom the back just snapped along the battery cut out.

    Line up the cams where the push button can go all the way through the switchblade, then hold it in place as you rotate it and then pop on the other half of the case. He’s pretty much right on the button with the technique but he didn’t show that crucial step because he never moved it when he removed and replaced it.

    This is a great video. I have done everything as instructed; at least 8 times, I have tried this. But for some reason, despite my attention to detail, my key constantly sprang out! I do it as explained meticulously, I spin it twice, but my key never stays in the locked position? I must be missing something subtle here, or perhaps my shell is just flawed?

  • @IrrationalBstrd

    Be sure to cut the glue around the bottom edges too, he didn't show that in the video... I couldn't get mine apart until I cut along the bottom and pushed the corner of the blade in around the stepped plastic.

      Would you be able to better describe what you mean by bottom edges? I am having trouble opening my fob and think there is more glue holding it together.

    • @IrrationalBstrd
      @IrrationalBstrd Год назад

      @@gregguikema2613 around at the bottom, the seam goes around steps, if I remember correctly. The glue is pretty tough, but you'll get it open getting the tip of the knife blade into the seam everywhere carefully. I was able to have the fob laying flat and out the tip of the blade into the seam straight down. I don't know which replacement fob case you got, but on the one I did for my Dad, the release button was different. I used the mechanism from the new case, but I removed the key from the old mechanism by tapping out the roll pin that holds the key portion (and the blank portion on the new one) and swapped them. The fit was fine. It works perfectly.

      @@gregguikema2613 the bottom of the black shell inside of the hole created by the chrome key ring piece and even that is only enough to get the bottom half of the back off, I still had to fight the top half for a while, I wanna punch the guy who decided to glue these in the face, just use a dang screw to hold it together and no glue needed.

    Greetings from Slovenia. Did you manage to extend the range of the battery with this method? I can't find any conclusion. When I look at the graph in the movie, I see that after this experiment some cells have a slightly lower voltage than before.
    Do you still have this Ampera at the moment?

    Pay attention to the size of the button in your original and replacement keys
    If they are not the same size the botton will not sit correctly to activate tue spring.
