I agree, I'm a huge video game enthusiast and I love playing video games all day long. I find it very important seeing men being passionate about their work and about what they are doing in that industry and there is so few of them lately. Kudos to GGG
Thank you Chris Wilson and the entire GGG team for staying true to your roots and trying your hardest to keep Path of Exile fresh AND reminiscent at the same time. Nowadays I've noticed many gaming companies taking a different route, a more money-based route, which saddens me immensely. I have nothing but respect for you because $$$ seems to NOT be the driving force behind your decisions with your masterpiece ARPG. Please never forget one thing during your endeavors... Absolute power corrupts absolutely, and we don't want that, unless it adds an extra level to my level 3 Empower!!! Don't ever let the $$$ run your company. You guys have created one of the greatest games many of us have ever had the pleasure of playing, and we trust you as a gaming company more than we've ever trusted any other... Thank you for staying true to your craft, and please keep on keeping on...
I have one major criticism about Chris's responses: I needed more details about the food. What percentage of the staff puts crushed pepper on the pizza? What percentage likes spicy sushi rolls? What drinks are in the fridge?
I want a segment of the game to reward slow play. The issue making the content simply "hard" is the best clear speed builds will also crush the hard content thats meant to be "slowing them down". There needs to be like a sort of Uber, Uber lab. Not in the trap sense but where you can think. "This my take me 15 minutes to clear but my slow block melee character can get highly rewarded for it" Right now, why do one hard map, when you can blast 5 easy open layouts.
videofletcher The map system could possibly be tweaked to do this. Adding modifiers that slowed down clear speed significantly but for high reward and a good chunk of extra XP per run. It could also possibly be made so it punishes cookie cutter builds that play on the edge with minimal defences, and give room for a more heavy style of play that takes things slow but has a significantly higher focus on defenses. But we need more tools for that then. Not just new attack skills but skills that actively counters the new meta but at the cost of speed.
videofletcher Quoting my Answer to another comment: Playing Spark+Support with insane clear speed we often skipped rares and bosses at the beginning because we simply did not take them down quickly enough. Also, skipping them didn't feel to bad because it's is more like a nice to kill but not really the rewarding kind of thing. Maybe a way to approach the clearspeed meta would be to balance rares and bosses to be a much harder and more rewarding challenge in general. This way tanky and "slower" builds can take em on more consistently whereas clearspeed builds are designed in such a way that they are great at taking down packs but not rares/bosses. I feel like spark is a good example of that (until you get to a level of too good gear etc)
Very nice series and kudos to Chris for taking the time, but its pretty obvious none of those streamers knew in advance that their questions would go to the boss himself so calling it an interview is a little off. Im done nitpicking now, take your like.
Actually, all of them knew I would be talking to Chris (and potentially other devs if the question was really specific). So why do you say it's obvious they didn't know?
At the time of recording no one adressed any particular person, only GGG in general. If they knew at the time that pretty much everything would be answered by Chris directly, at least some of them surely would have mentioned him in their greetings. Its no big deal at all :) It was cut together very well.
RobertSela you do know that its GGG's 10 years anniversary NOT CHRIS WILSON'S! And ziggy probably said this when he ask the streamers, "Hey, (Streamer Name), ggg is having their 10 years anniversary, do you have any particular question you would ask, if so make a video for it and send it to me." So that's why those streamer knew in advance but said GGG not Chris Wilson. You're Welcome 😉
Really enjoyed these videos. Chris did an awesome job answering all the questions. As for introducing the experimental stuff in a really hardcore environment, why not just do things like private test realms that are only offered to certain people, in like a lottery style or something? Then when people stream it no one is pressured into it since they won't have access to it anyways
I'm with Cooterz in hating when I'm on a different league for something or whatever reason I need to log onto a different character to sell something and I totally space on the name. It's always bugged me but never enough to bring it up. So I'm on board with her; it would definitely be a good QoL change. Also: HOLY SHIT NEW HIDEOUT TILE SETS? DO TELL!
what other company is so open to their customers and community. huge thanks to ggg and chris for doing this. i want to support this company just because these kind of things, so other companies would adopt this kind of "respect the community" policy too. keep up the good work! btw loving breach league :)
Wow ! RaizQt's question is still so on the spot !! ... about the names for trades while switching leagues , copy-paste usualy cuts it for me but dealing with more than one person at the time can mess things up (never cross league trading though). ... hm guild challenges or maybe party challenges/achievements ?!
Thank god Raiz for that question that i asked multiple times on the official forums and in other ways and got nothing so far. I can understand the problem with the player split and that some players might be thinking that they have to play the hardest league, but on the other hand that would be a league i and many others would be interested in (and i don't play PoE for half a year now, for similar reasons to Yojis) and i could see people playing in multiple leagues. Also i could see a lot of people going back to their leagues in the BLAMT races types while i was enjoying myself (obviously BLAMT is not the way to go for this league, but the feeling should go in that direction) and coming back for the race later when they had a break or some good night sleep and felt fresh enough to tackle it again. Also Cooterz question was a good one, especially when you have to switch leagues to trade and the person has either to wisper you again, or you have to remember the name after relogging into the league s/he wants to trade in.
zomfgroflmao1337 Personally I understand GGG's standpoint here. Split player bases have killed games before and they are still a small company that can't afford to take high stakes risks like this. It might be better to try to work it into the core game in some ways instead. The map system kind of allows for this already in a way, but could be expanded upon I feel. Giving players that option for high risk, high reward kind if thing. And yea, scaling XP with difficulty would be a god sent.
Serah Wint That is bullshit, the way it is now nobody is really happy. They fear that changing the game too much would cost them players but also don't want to 'split the playerbase' because it would cost them players. I think doing nothing is costing them way more than doing something.
I agree with chris on the movement skill and speed thing. I love being able to move really fast and wipe maps, its incredibly fun. I see no problem in having insane clear speed if you have insane gear. That's how it should be.
Well... u dont need insane gear to achieve insane clearspeed. and since many people run at that clearspeed GGG needs to balance the game around that clearspeed meta. the first option i have is to play my slow build, which doesnt make enough money to compete with the other people going faster, which means i wont be able to get as good gear/take down end game content since my income is too low (unless i play A LOT. but then again... what about people who play a lot AND fast...?). the other option is i follow the meta and play one of those builds. the thing is maybe i dont enjoy that playstyle. maybe i dont like just running through maps and content and randomly dying to 1-shots or reflect mobs cause i didnt see them in time to react. maybe i want to play more tactical, more patient where i can spot dangers for my character in time. randomly dying to reflect isnt a fun death for me. dying to a boss in a map with rippy map mods i knew i shoulnt run is totally fine for me, but getting one shotted by something i couldnt even see coming? feels like i got cheated tbh. i dont enjoy playing those clearspeed builds, but the game kinda pushes me to it.
The answer to every question in this video: "Its pretty hard, and we want to do it, but its gonna take way too long and theres more important things we want to do."
Final Fantasy 11 online had a great chat and reply system, and auto-translate options for international players, I have never found a similar chat system since, GGG you should take a look! ☺️
As much as I appreciate this video series(its really good and helps humanize GGG, which should help diffuse some of the hostility from the community. Should do this more) I'm kind of bummed out by no one pressuring GGG on how melee works in the game currently. Or as many of us feel. Not working. There are a whole host of melee skills that virtually see no play atm. That can't sit right with them, can it?
Serah Wint They already said that the 2.5 changes were just a glimpse of the fixes for melee. The huge balance change is gonna come with 3.0 (next league) because they have much more freedom with the new act.
I think for the trade system, just being able to trade between instances and even during maps would save a ton of time between teleporting to different areas a bunch of times before returning to your map and also loosing a portal on occasion; the challenge of being available for people to trade and the availability for trading in general would help a ton; if the specific items for trade gets taken out of your stash automatically would help out even more; not the easiest thing to do, but i think it could work well and still have the same bargaining options like before. Been playing poe for a while as well, and always been struggling with end game content, previously Atziri all the way to the shaper now, I reckon most poe player still thinks poe is a pretty hard game in general, still trying though :P
In response to Chris Wilson in regards to RaizQT: GGG, please don't restrict super hard modes to hardcore only. Why not introduce new features in the middle of the league to spice things up, where the enemies all get stronger, or give people the option to "change modes", where they can engage in much harder modes with larger rewards or new uniques and items, without restricting players to a set league?
The last question changed my life :O maybe it will be good idea to try to get a job in GGG... they are providing free food and some hunger games stuff :O

"It took a very long time for us to train users out of the feeling that they're 'bad at the game' if they aren't playing in Hardcore vs. Standard." Too bad that they failed. That mentality still exists in EVERY ARPG in existence and will NEVER disappear.
On trading: Why do both parties have to be online to trade? Why can't I have a "sell" tab where I put things along with a prize, e.g. 1ex and you come online, select the item, put one exalt in your "buy" tab and receive the item in return? Now the buyer has to wait until the seller is online, has to set up annoying watches on poe.trade etc. Why!?!? Trading on poe feels like the 90s.
Peoples names should show by their account names, so its always the same so if you message a trade and they msg you from a different character it doesn't matter, same with adding people you meet showing on another character and you forget who they are.
I'm find the argument against the iron man mode a bit curious. Although I don't think I would even play it, I find it strange that people actually might get put off by it. Now they have the numbers, so it might actually be the case. I don''t know how big this effect would be. I'm in general a fan of optional difficulties. But maybe in an online scenario the pressure to go more difficult is higher for alot of people.
The problem with guild challenges seems silly. Surely, this is EXACTLY how challenges are supposed to work? Skilled players who spend a lot of time in the game get to reap the rewards of the challenges, wheras casual players can't really hope for 40/40.
Cruzz999 Yea you can't cater to everyone. And not all content can be for everyone realistically. That said, he did have a point that they have to prioritize what most players experience if a new feature is under consideration and only 2-3% would use it. POE is a very single player driven experience traditionally. But *that* said I think the game could grow if they added more social features that rewarded playing together. That appeals to a lot of people and is an untapped demographic right now for GGG.
I also think the problem is a bit different. He said the problem is that other players don't engage at all if they don't have a chance to win. I think there would be a way around it, as they did in a few legues where everyone has a chance to win something. So I'm not sure why he still thinks it's a problem.
Considering movement skills were ment to be used as dodge mechanics or to jump across chasms and rivers and not to be spammed like we do today, (chris said this in an earlier interview) you can consider them broken, as they are fullfilling a role wildly besides their purpose.
lendial I agree. I think there just needs to be more tools for defence in the game. And by that I don't mean straight up mitigation but ways to actively avoid and counter certain boss strategies instead of just straight up about numbers that end up one shotting you for not putting a stupid amount of passive points into health. Which makes everyone go shield instead since that's more point efficient.

lendial Playing Spark+Support with insane clear speed we often skipped rares and bosses at the beginning because we simply did not take them down quickly enough. Also, skipping them didn't feel to bad because it's is more like a nice to kill but not really the rewarding kind of thing. "Removal of desync" ? wow, Raiz, you never seize to amaze me. desync was not removed, some people are just lucky enough to be able to use lockstep. thanks for ignoring the rest of us.
Next time you are over there Ziggy, ask Neon where my green Seraph Armor set that he owes me for the Voltoxic in the Demigods Race. Deals were made, promises were had. #Neverforget
i guess they pushed out the new tabs so chris can afford more speed^^ this guy doesnt slow down, i guess thats one of the reasons why GGG made such an awesome game!
nope. it would be amazing. Maybe Movement skills should get the Flicker Strike treatment.. wanna keep it up? find a way to create charges. the Clear Speed meta is cancer and anti fun for many people (roughly 50% is my estimate).
Guilds... oh where do I begin? Half the reason people don't join guilds is cause the ONLY reason is social interaction. There's no other cool things about being in a guild to make joining/creating one worth it. I'd have joined a guild MUCH sooner if there had been challenges or Guild Hideouts. So there's the problem. "No one joins guilds, so why bother to work on them?" but upgrading guilds with cool things would likely cause more people to join/create them. Eventually one side is going to break, no one will bother creating/joining guilds cause GGG doesn't fix them, or GGG will eventually bend and fix them and then they'll become popular.
The things that are keeping me away from this game are lack of good in-game trade ui (and I don't accept that POE trade is a suitable substitute, its too much work for an entertainment), and the need to repeat the $^#%# campaign yet again THREE times for every single character and league. Even That Other Game managed to solve that problem. No one ever asks about those things any more for some reason.
This guy makes me feel like buying stash tabs.
A PR guy and salesman who doesn't feel like a salesman. Neato.
abschussrampe Yep!
Just did! only to support this game and the idea of free to play not P2W, and yes i agree this guys is super cool ^^ !

Chris answering Hegy's question was brilliant.
I have one major criticism about Chris's responses: I needed more details about the food. What percentage of the staff puts crushed pepper on the pizza? What percentage likes spicy sushi rolls? What drinks are in the fridge?
that little "fishing trip" slip in there lol
I like chris. He seems honest.
ravosblackrose Yea he has that kind of bumbling earnest character that makes you just inherently trust him.
I can see why he's in charge of things :)
what if "the table is made of wood" is code, some kind of teaser for act 5

Chris you rock. 1 percent of your lifeforce, could take me to the moon.

What is the build of the start of the video?
"It took a very long time for us to train users out of the feeling that they're 'bad at the game' if they aren't playing in Hardcore vs. Standard."
Too bad that they failed. That mentality still exists in EVERY ARPG in existence and will NEVER disappear.
Anyone realize that Chris looks a bit like Kripp when he talks? The head bopping....
Launch speed meta at the office
Peoples names should show by their account names, so its always the same so if you message a trade and they msg you from a different character it doesn't matter, same with adding people you meet showing on another character and you forget who they are.
I'm find the argument against the iron man mode a bit curious. Although I don't think I would even play it, I find it strange that people actually might get put off by it.
Now they have the numbers, so it might actually be the case. I don''t know how big this effect would be. I'm in general a fan of optional difficulties. But maybe in an online scenario the pressure to go more difficult is higher for alot of people.
Chris is like a standup comedian XD
Guild Hideout sounds like a great idea XD
To trade between leagues: ctrl + c the persons name. Relog. ctrl + v the name. Done!
Hello GGG boys and girl.
Movement skills are not broken. Monster damage is too high and monster life is too low.

Playing Spark+Support with insane clear speed we often skipped rares and bosses at the beginning because we simply did not take them down quickly enough.
HA. Chris confirming that HC is not greater than SC, BECAUSE of Raiz's question. Oh the irony, serving the greatest HC Elitist Streamer by accident
New hideout tilesets in the future....NICE!
ziggy'd just got to be ggg's new little pet , and man he suuuure loves it :)
the log file??? Mine was just about 3 gb... i couldn't even open it with normal programs.
Wolfgang Klein well then delete it. Then you can open the new one later if you forgot some guy's name
The problem was that i was looking for a name and couldn't open the file.
9:43 Stampede - new minion skill coming!
tl;dr - nothing will be addressed, but thanks for the questions
"Removal of desync" ? wow, Raiz, you never seize to amaze me. desync was not removed, some people are just lucky enough to be able to use lockstep. thanks for ignoring the rest of us.
Hardmode 2016! :O
Chris Wilson, "King of Trolls"
Next time you are over there Ziggy, ask Neon where my green Seraph Armor set that he owes me for the Voltoxic in the Demigods Race. Deals were made, promises were had. #Neverforget
i guess they pushed out the new tabs so chris can afford more speed^^
this guy doesnt slow down, i guess thats one of the reasons why GGG made such an awesome game!
its wood table. 10/10
Shape shift??
"The table's made of wood"
Made of Mike Woods?
It's my soul.
my Client.txt file is 1.8 gigs which is too big for notepad or notepad++ :|
like he is dancing while he is speaking
you sure speak fast sir! kk'
Gilney Slicer movespeed meta is alive
talkspeed meta
Fishing trips are tradition at GGG.
So fishing is real
I like it keep it up
Please. No increased cool down on movement skills. That'd be really annoying.
nope. it would be amazing. Maybe Movement skills should get the Flicker Strike treatment.. wanna keep it up? find a way to create charges. the Clear Speed meta is cancer and anti fun for many people (roughly 50% is my estimate).
Y0G0FU Stuffing charges into everything is much more antifun.
Actually thought raiz had some good ideas
she said me-me.....
Yeah! It's totally pronounced "Leh-May-meeeee"
Yeah, everyone knows it's pronounced "mem".
she didn't pronounce meme, me-me. she said the word memey. (having the qualities of a meme)
ah :p
I think that was supposed to be memey, as in their name shares properties with memes
What if I am not having fun, how are you going to fix that.
tell you to fuck off and go play minecraft?
Mathijs S.
You sound upset.
I love how that guy doesn't understand the fun of this comment
In the future, you will be able to purchase "fun" as a mtx. Just like Win Fireworks, this one will be Fun Fireworks.
Guilds... oh where do I begin? Half the reason people don't join guilds is cause the ONLY reason is social interaction. There's no other cool things about being in a guild to make joining/creating one worth it. I'd have joined a guild MUCH sooner if there had been challenges or Guild Hideouts.
So there's the problem. "No one joins guilds, so why bother to work on them?" but upgrading guilds with cool things would likely cause more people to join/create them. Eventually one side is going to break, no one will bother creating/joining guilds cause GGG doesn't fix them, or GGG will eventually bend and fix them and then they'll become popular.
9:03 what a troll
time to stock up on movement speed items because they'll probly go legacy ;]
lmao i died at raiz part
its even worse than he described on stream LUL
lmao @ chris/hege
The things that are keeping me away from this game are lack of good in-game trade ui (and I don't accept that POE trade is a suitable substitute, its too much work for an entertainment), and the need to repeat the $^#%# campaign yet again THREE times for every single character and league. Even That Other Game managed to solve that problem. No one ever asks about those things any more for some reason.
fishing trip. Just slip it in there... nice
How is it fun to press 1 button and everything dies no challenge nothing
But... but I am bad at the game, that why I play softcore !
BLAMT league? HELL YEAH!
3:30 girl or boy? O_O
transgender
***** oh ok.. her voice was just weird :D sounded more like a boy
Boy
Hahahahahaha
What about a fucking soft/hard cap on cast/attack/movement speed? ...
Was kind of explained in the first questions.
Cooters? Using that name, really? WutFace
9:45 this is why boots without movement speed is trash :P
Dear GGG update the game engine ffs.
