  • (hunt and hunting) Randy Newberg's Elk Talk "SYSTEM" for finding highly pressured public land elk is explained in overview here. Randy covers the four basic needs; food, water, security, and breeding. Randy explains how the calendar period in which you are hunting determines what needs the elk have and where they will go to satisfy those needs. Where elk go to satisfy those needs is where you will find them in that calendar period.

Thanks Randy, myself I've never hunted much at all. Time is catching up to me and I have things I'd like to do. A Elk hunt has always been on my mine.
I've saved enough to go this season and will be studying all I can. But living so far away has its challenges, I have no idea where to go, not even which State for that matter. But you give me confidence that I need to get the knowledge anyway I can. Any direct advise would always be appreciated, at least to narrow down the scope of it all.
Keep posting and I'll search back into your videos.
Thanks for showing a newbee that it can be more than a dream.

So looking forward to this series and that book (or ebook) you got coming. Thanks Randy, for you to share this stuff it makes a huge difference for those of us that get one trip a year to go West and try to figure it out in a few short days.

Does the scale shift depending on weather? In Colorado sometimes 1st season is really warm or it can be total dump of snow. Look forward to this series, it will be a lot of help for the upcoming season. Thank you

Not really. It takes a ton of weather to move bull elk, so usually those early storms are not going to put them into a late season mode. Thanks for watching.

our early season in BC is bow. If I have an area that has large herds of elk moving daily from bedding down to an abundance of water in a substantial river should I go elsewhere to good food for the big bulls? or might they be in the general vacinity just off a bit by themselves?

Depends on what "early season" dates are. If it is in early September, odds are that they are close to the cows and younger bulls. If it is August, they might be further away from the cows.
