    I think you kinda miss the point with review bombing. Yes, it hurts the game, that's kinda the point? When Gaijin announces changes to completely fuck the economy and are deaf to feedback, the players can only threaten what gaijin cares about - the money, make the revenue loss from negative reviews outweigh the revenue loss from an economy that doesn't force you to pay to progress at a decent pace.

    • @DawgIVLife
      @DawgIVLife  Месяц назад +9

      I completely understand the point of review bombing. The goal is to create backlash so the game has to respond to it, but like I said in the video the problem at that time for warthunder is you had marketing people who’s job is to create schemes to make more profit in the game. Which was to adjust the economy to make more people want/need premiums and premium time etc.
      Like with all situations in the past for warthunder where they decided to do something really stupid like try to introduce paid consumables the community was like woah wtf you doing gaijin and they did not add them to the game.

      @@DawgIVLife The big thing that you missed was that the Chinese heavily participated in the boycott and reviewbomb. It's their way of showing displeasure towards something and they are way more organized than we are. They are also a very large group that is more than willing to spend money on games. Gaijin had to do something because these dudes will very much leave if they feel like the devs aren't doing their part. The boycott very much did something to the game and truth be told while I'm not 100% satisfied with the changes, they did do something to make the game a bit more rewarding which is in stark contrast to what would've happened if people just complained and did nothing.

      It’s just really hard to fit everything into a video like this. When I was coming up with the outline I was going to include more details like the guy who showed up at the gaijin offices and put some posters up. Or the death threats, but then made the judgment call those types of people do not deserve to be remembered. It’s a video game at the end of the day, but I am assuming more CCs will be making a similar type video I really hope someone does like a timeline of events where it’s more of a historical viewing of the boycott instead of a recollection like this video is.

      Agreed, point of the review bomb is to deter new people from spending money
      This is one of the only f2p games where whales don't make up 90% of the revenue. A reasonable amount is from new/avid players getting stuff like starter packs, small amounts of GE and buying those premium pop up deals

      @@DawgIVLife I'll be completely honest and say that I didn't really watch the video (or listened in full) but I believe that the review bombing worked simply because it made the marketing team/gaijin realize that we won't take shit like this (unlike WoT players). It also worked because it made the devs work hard and fast on the QoL stuff, balancing (even tho it is quite iffy and still has ways to go) and being more open about what they plan to add (roadmap). I am not even going to talk about the War thunder union - that thing was a joke with TEC being on top - always crying about stuff that could all be summarized to a simple skill/brain issue. People who still say that this has "something-bias" is stupid for the simple reason of - if the other player is stupid he will die anyway/if you are better you win.

    I am sorry to say that I completely disagree with your view of the Review Bombing. It makes no sense. Of course you are a War Thunder CC so you most likely need to remain polite about Gaijin or maybe you trully believe that they did very little wrong. But saying that review bombing is hurting the game without even adressing the reason why people would review bomb or even just leave the game in general is weird. You did not give any numbers, you did not give an ETA for grinding one part of a Techtree.
    For the average player it would cost them 9,427,300 rp (give or take) to unlock every single GROUND United States vehicle. Earning on average 2000rp (no premium) at top tier, that would take roughly 4,713 matches. If we have an average of 12 minutes per match that would equal 56,561 minutes (942 hrs) needed. So roughly 39 days of non stop , continuous play. That is not possible for the average player to ever reach the end of top tier within their first year (Unless they have a month of non stop play).
    This is ridiculous and only for ground US tree. Imagine that for all the other trees. You may think that it is all right or maybe new players should just buy top tier premiums, but that isn't fixing the problem. If losing some "potential" players is what is needed to get Gaijin to lower costs or to update research modifiers, then I'll gladly do it again.
    Also note that War Thunder won't die until a better alternative for players comes along. Since 2013, there has been none, so there is no way that the review bomb would have ever caused the game to fail and shut down. As you pointed out yourself. Even the Union was playing because Gaijin holds the monopoly and those people still needed to grind out the event.

    • @DawgIVLife
      @DawgIVLife  Месяц назад +3

      I don’t own every vehicle in the game, but I also do understand that my experience with the game is unlike majority of the players because I can request permanent vehicles or test drives to get vehicles spaded for free.
      To be completely transparent I use most of my CC budget each month and update to collect the premiums so it’s easier to do videos, but for the most part I do like to spade vehicles legitimately. Gives me some sort of goal to go after. Like in this video the gameplay of the rochev (m109) and the Su-100 for china was me finishing off those vehicles the last couple of days.
      I know this will sound weird but thinking about how I am still able to have something to do after playing the game for 10 years to me is pretty cool, but also if your goal is just to reach top tier as fast as possible I just feel like you will burn your self out quickly.

      @@DawgIVLife Updated my original comment while you were replying as it did come off a rather rude and I would like to appologise.
      However, as I have stated in my new comment, if new people are leaving it isn't because bad reviews, its all down to the grind. 39 days in total to unlock almost all the US ground tree is insane! US air would be 43 days and you can times that by 9 because there are 9 techtrees in the game (Give or take as not all trees have the same amount of vehicles).
      I understand that you as a CC is always looking for endgame, but this shouldn't come at the expense of the majority who cannot do what you do. I have been tryharding since april as I have recently become unemployed, but as soon as my employment restarts I will be unable to plow through all 9 trees to get to a completion point.
      My understanding is that Gaijin has already done wrong and there is no way for them to back up. The game is stale and only new vehicles is what brings in new players. If the review bomb was dissuasive, then at least gaijin needs to own up.

    To put it bluntly: player dissatisfaction was a real thing, "player union" was a Reddit thing.
    The point is that the boycott was more successful than not. Gaijin simply got too greedy and now they had to intruduce new things to satisfy players. I am more than happy with the current state of the game compared to prior to the boycott, which of course wasn't something that changed literally everything, but I'm glad with how it turned out overall.
    Also, there is a visible dip in the player steam charts, which I'm sure also meant something to Gaijin, so I think only Leddit failed, but the dissatisfied players did win something in the end.

  • @Kyrine
    @Kyrine Месяц назад +2

    For the most part the actual dedication to the boycott was a joke like you said. However, it did cause a lot of positive changes. The repair cost change is the biggest deal of it all since I had actually stopped playing the game prior to the boycott for that reason. 8k SL repair for the IS-2 was very nuts compared to how much a kill gave you. (Yes, it was partially a skill issue, but I was new.) Afterwards the Skill Bonus they added is a great help and has allowed me to speed though the first half of the American Tech Tree. Now I think the Economy (RP and SL) is in a great place.
    At this point I just wished they would work on improving the issues of volumetrics, general balancing, and round damage consistency. On top of that, they need to find ways to better counter spawn camping. I remember a fellow WT CC (Dollar) recommending an area where you could click anywhere in that area to spawn. Which would make pinning down spawns harder.
    For the overwhelming parts of the game, a simple introduction/tutorial should pop up when you buy a vehicle with radar or any fancy mechanics.
    Lastly, the average player wouldn't care about anything I just wrote. All they care about is that the game is still fun to play. For those of us who do care and wish for a better experience, Gaijin hosts polls on the forums and conducts surveys. The forums are a great place to suggest ideas as well.

      I have been debating on making a video about spawn killing. I really don’t think there is a solution for it. You can put every protection in the game and I will just camp the exit of the spawn. The way they have tried to counter spawn trapping is creating like 1-3 areas where enemies can leave all I have to do is wait right outside and I get total control even though I am not currently in the spawn. Some games are just lost and it better to move on to the next one.

    You’re entirely wrong about steam review bombs. It’s literally the only real way players have to voice their complaints. If they don’t review bomb, devs can easily ignore any outcry, and they would’ve enacted those insane economy changes. You spent the second half of the video saying that the union failed. I believe that shows that steam review bombs are the only real way players can get their voices actually listened to by developers.

    • @DawgIVLife
      @DawgIVLife  Месяц назад +1

      Or you can just figure out where to voice your opinion at. What I mean by that is your random 3am Reddit post most likely will not be seen by the devs. It has to be directed into a place where it can be collected and sent in as feedback like the forums community managers or depending on the feedback could be game masters etc. It’s physically impossible for gaijin to go out and scout for every bit of feedback.

    • @robracer97

      @@DawgIVLife They can easily ignore forms just as easily as reddit. Steam reviews are directly on their storepage, making them much harder to ignore as it has the chance to effect their bottom line. New players also deserve to know if a dev is changing things to screw them over.

      Homie if you really want your feedback ignored leaving a random negative steam review is going to make that happen. If you throw a really good suggestion in the right place most of the time it is seen by people like Smin1080p or Tom(oxy) or others that can pass it forward.
      As always feedback is feedback it can be helpful and also be pretty much worthless from a player.

    The point with the steam review where like real workers strikes: enforce demands, enforce the other side to hear on. All this situation started because Gaijin did not give enough attention to what the player base could sugest for changes, and then whent rampant changing everything about economy having only her own concern as company guiding the changes. The game being hurt is just... a consequence of the tension; it wellbeing depends on both interest of the players and company.
    War Thunder changed for the better. Back in the day i would not even have a positive balance of sl playing the t-44-100 because very good matches are rare. Today i progress smothly through the ussr techtree, even if i am not having good results. The game is not perfect, tho. The map selection on high tier is a torture and other things.

  • @Frost_x_NB

    Tbh the economy still needs a rework. Yeah it was better than what it was, but it still needs help. Like even if you play the game completely free and with no money spending at all it’s almost impossible to progress. Like people who don’t live on this game and play maybe 3hrs a day are suffering. People shouldn’t have to be forced to rely on paid progression for a free to play game. I personally am not a completely free to play player I spend money every so often on sales, battle passes, etc. but I can only imagine how they must feel.
    RP and SL still needs improvements for someone who spends money on the game it should feel like your getting your moneys worth. As a premium player it’s ridiculous when a really good game comes around and drop 7-8kills in a game and only getting 13k rp in return is sad. I think if they implemented 2x RP and SL events like weekends or maybe even nation specific events to get more players to try other tech trees, plus I think this would be very good for the player base. Having more opportunities for the economy to be health will greatly boost the games performance and will make people want to play more other and feel like they are getting something in return.

    Mate, I agree with you. Unfortunately, your advice and opinions have fallen on deaf ears. Have you ever seen the level of incompetence displayed by the average war thunder player? Have you seen how much the war thunder reddit is full of complaints? Most players are not good. Most players go 1/3, 1/4, 0/3 in games. Most players don't even use the map or apply any sort of strategy while playing- I've literally today seen a guy rush a cap point and j out right after capping it to spawn a FIGHTER. A BOMBLESS FIGHTER, in the first minute of the game. He flew aimlessly for 7 minutes before actually doing anything useful. You have people spawning 3-4 planes while having no cap points and being pushed into their spawn.
    They will never learn. It's barely a skill issue, it's an IQ issue. They certainly have never played a game that posess a truly horrid matchmaking/progression system such as League of Legends for example. War thunder is amazing by comparison, you get points even when losing, and you are compensated for your efforts and you are not held back by your team as much as other PvP, team-based F2P games.
    The changes are amazing, I unlock vehicles easily, silver lions are abundant. I was doing great even before buying premium, I am now doing amazing. For those of us that work, we buy premium to compensate having less time, while most of these kids should have lots of time to grind stuff. You people are playing for free, please understand your time is your currency, if you can't spend dollars.
    Anyways, good video.

    The players did gaijin a favor with the review bombing
    Tarkov and Enlisted are excellent examples of games being undermined by greed
    The bombing stopped gaijin from going that all out self destructive path for the moment and more "damage" like that will be necessary for the health of the game I'm the future
    In a world where greed didn't control Gaijin, "damage" like that wouldn't be necessary but that world doesn't exist so we'll ill have to tell the snail to shove it every now and then

      The reason I see the tarkov problem is that EOD edition of the game clearly stated you will get all DLCs. Nikita decided to call PVE a feature to get around the DLC argument. In general greed is bad but in warthunder case it was just being stupid. Tarkov was actually breaking consumer laws.
      But on a side note it’s really sad what enlisted became.

      Even though gaijin hasn't implemented changes that I want ( ex: making premium time an even better value), it's still a net win bc WT can easily go down the Enlisted path and, for example, they did make premium time a slightly better value and I've been surprised by how they at least value our feedback especially through voting
