Absolutely priceless history of what it took to ensure Freedom prospered in a world run largely by Totalitarians. Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction.

This business of the Japanese senior staff trying to one-up each other by offering themselves up one by one as self sacrifices to the “war gods” or whatever, is so mind numbing stupid I can hardly believe it. This misplaced sense of, what I guess they considered “honor”, is so inexcusably wasteful of the ONLY thing the Japanese won that day- hard earned experience. You can only learn from your mistakes if you do better next time. With all this knowledge sent to the bottom of the ocean they’d only be dooming themselves to repeated losses of a similar variety. Fortunately (unfortunately) they seem to have stopped themselves before it got to that point. But I have a feeling that a huge number of mistakes made during this war can be accounted for by the hubris of “destiny”, and the utter panic and incomprehension that followed when destiny failed to materialize.

The Bataan death march, The rape of Nanking, the Bonsai human wave attacks. Shall I go on? Their atrocities were beyond count. Inscrutable--for a reason.

And the massacre of the Australian nurses and wounded soldiers on Bangka Island. Never forget, never.

It's astounding to this retired developer that todays tech possesses all types of 'gee whiz' functionality but can't be coded to perform the most basic of checks.

@ferngrows6740 the best explanation I've heard is that these are dumbed down sample programs. That explains why they occasionally lapse into atrocious pronunciation.

the content is so solid, but the mispronunciations, paragraph numbers being read and other errors seriously degrade the overall quality
