Friday November 27th,2009, over 1,2 million Norwegians watched parts of "Bergensbanen" on NRK2. The longest documentary ever? At least the longest we have made, almost 7 1/2 hours, showing every minute of the scenic train ride between Bergen on the Norwegian west coast, crossing the mountains to the capital of Oslo.
Bergensbanen is 100 years in 2009, and the documentary was a wild idea from NRK staff that came through, and was, surprisingly, a big success.
(The documentary had picture-in-picture clips with videos about Bergensbanen, a reporter interviewing people on the train, music and two cameras pointing to the sides of the train. Because of rights, we had to remove the music and many videoclips, so we decided to make a clean front camera version for this download. It's recorded on a Sony 700 camera in XDCAM HD 1080 50i. The camera has a 30 seconds buffer, making it possible to switch disks when needed. So we have a continuous recording of 7 hours.)

The plot was flawless. The characters were incredibly well developed. I was in tears only 30 minutes in. 10/10
I felt the director had a clear sense of artistic direction.
The landscape is breathtaking! But it also make you realize what a tremendous effort it must have been to construct the line.
This is perfect, not only a great picture but natural sounds as well, no music!
DANKE, für diese Video. Es ist wunderschön und es macht es mir möglich auch ohne Geld, Urlaub zu machen und wundervolle Landschaften einzufangen. Echt großartig dass du mir und anderen diese Impressionen ermöglichst!
This is perfect!!!! Thank you for doing this! I will probably never have the opportunity to visit Norway so this is at least a little taste of what I would see. :)
Norway is a very beautiful country - I enjoyed this video very much. Thanks
Norge er et veldig vakkert land - jeg likte denne videoen veldig mye. Takk
Maybe the first sentence google translate has gotten 100% correct :-)
The summertime is much more beautiful. Believe me :)
I believe you.
Nous avons fait ce trajet en 2010, nous allons le refaire d'OSLO à BERGEN, que du bonheur. A bientôt NORVÈGE !!!!!!
I'm from Canada and I'm hoping to take some courses in Oslo. I'm actually genuinely enjoying this video
it's actually even better when watched at half speed, that way you can see every detail and easteregg hidden in this oscar worthy performance
in the Netherlands we have this TV show called rail away, it is shots of trains in different locations on earth. it is also really popular. it is narrated with info over the building of the track and the surroundings. i learned a lott of history and culture from that show.
dank u,i have never hear until now from this show, now i watch all at :
www.uitzendinggemist.nl/programmas/1106-rail-away
In Germany gives the TV show called " Eisenbahn Romantik ".
groetjes Sven
Best train video in history. Please make more.
Mighty fine ride through beautiful country. Even the weather was great.
Fabelhaft !! Fanstastik !! Vielen dank auch.

I would pay all the license fees in the world for a public broadcaster like NRK. They know how to keep their viewers calm and happy!
One of the most amazing track worldwide
Tolle Mitfahrt. Daumen hoch und danke für's Raufladen! :)
I can't believe how quiet and smooth this train is, thank you for very nice video! Next time you should cut or edit out the long tunnels. :)
Thanks for posting. Beautiful scenery
Veramente un bel viaggio, che spettacolo!
It would be cool if the mini tvs inside the trains showed the front view, like this. They could record it on a sunny day like this, and show it all the time. Although you see a lot from the train, it's never the same as having the opportunity to see all of it.
Breathtaking landscapes.
Epic journey, what a wonderful construction, a credit to Norway.
What an astounding train ride! Very beautiful, thanks for uploading.
Lovely Cab ride with beautiful scenery. Thank you for sharing
Great great great! i love the snow and everything around 2 and half hour is so beatufiul
This video is of that I like, is the second time I see it ... thanks for uploading. regards
Just watched it again for my 2nd time! Gotta at this to my bucket list! :D
Fantastic video
Beautiful landscape,original video!
Just love the Art Tunnels. Well done, thanks!
Great video! I watched the whole thing and and enjoyed it .Well done! :D
This video makes me meditate in peace.
2:38:32 fantastic! I do not know what it is so beautiful! Thank you so much!
Indeed you are right. In situations that you described (age, health, and money constraints) as well as time issues this is awesome way to experience something like the train ride in this video.
Sehr schönes Video - danke für's mitnehmen :-)
The part with the train was really exciting!
Very nice, but the camera should be off power during the tunnels. Then you see only a dark screen during long times!
très belle vidéo ! paysages magnifiques
merci !
Type 'Bergen Oslo Stations Wiki' into search box and click on stations to get a list.
I used Google maps to follow this fantastic ride !!! NB: There are some 5-10 mile long tunnels so be prepared to take a coffee break while the train goes through them. The poster has brilliantly tagged each tunnel onscreen so you'll know which ones are really long ! Also...if you are following the track on Google it is sometimes hard to locate it so jump to the next station and backtrack (literally).
cool video. love the scenery
I have taken the trip by car. And the view while coming from Oslo to Bergen takes almost a day, but every moment while I am driving was like a exotic view experience to me. Not boredom at all. And perhaps I need to consider to take same route with train next time, if opportunity allow.
Why aren't there lights in the tunnel? Does the cab not have a headlight and if not how would it see an animal if it were in the tunnel? Probably a dumb question but it's a need to know kind of thing.
It is not dumb. I wish to know the same.
Then it comes to be that the soothing light at the end of your tunnel is just the freight train coming your way
I'm 70 with medical issues as well as being poor so this is an awesome way to travel and not have to pay for it !!
This is great!!! I love it!
Egyptian who would love not only visiting norway but to live in, JEG ELSKER NORGE
Very nice (except for the chime). I would like to see what the train looks like?
trantrum watch this: ruclips.net/video/0i9EUo_FmR0/видео.html
(this cabride, but as he was seen on norwegian tv)
the train : ruclips.net/video/0i9EUo_FmR0/видео.htmlh37m12s
Why can't they stick a google-earth camera to the front of one of these trains and use it to create the ultimate train simulator... how hard would it be to transfer the actual images of the actual tracks in to a game?
possible, however your point of view would be stuck to the front of the train, and if you look behind you, all you will see is the front of the train
TuckingFypoo use more than 1 camera
TuckingFypoo Revolutionary idea: 360 degree camera.
pretteh awesome that somebody would film the entire thing O_O imo
this is hypnotic, wonderful
This is truly awesome.
Mesmerizing, I wish TVP1(Poland's national broadcaster) would also experiment a bit like the NRK, this was a huge success in Norway right? I read that over a QUARTER of the Norwegian population watched at least a solid portion of this clip. .
This is the first time I see or hear about this one, so I can't talk about it, but I do know that over a quarter watched some show about firewood...
Popieram :D
I liked the part with the train ride. Made me so fucking excited.
I've been on this train, from Oslo to Bergen tough. I don';t remember there being so many tunnels!
It's wonderful.
Best video ever
I've made this train journey myself. This video is kinda surreal.
If the full 7 hours was on blue ray then I would consider buying it if the price was right
beautiful place
fantastic video !!!!
i love the scenery
As far as I know in the Europe is limit to 160 for tracks with level crossings.
Stunning!
Why does the CAT(tractor not animal) at 3:10:28 have tinted windows?
3:10:28 GEILO: Meine Lieblingslandschaft! #GEIL
Schon dass mitfahren , ich liebe es!
ich auch!
Coś niesamowitego!!!!!!!
In general it scared me to consider what would happen if a tree fell or a large wild animal was on the tracks. The speeds are phenomenal, and exciting too.
こうした環境ビデオはあって然るべきだけれども、これがテレビで放送されていたことにはたまげる。7時間って! しかも、序盤しか観てないけどトンネル内の真っ暗な映像多め!(笑)
Is that japanese?
Daniel Eikefjord Yes!
A few people are complaining about the ding with the labels, if you dont like it, turn the volume down. The soundtrack does not add to the experience. all you can hear is rattling in the back ground and muffled voices. Not even a clickety clack train noise.
Pretty addictive watching though. I love train travel.
quite you all, I don't want to miss a single second.
Great job!
Well, the speeds are pretty common around Europe I think, if you talk about 140 being the top speed.
In my country there are many railroad crossings, and there is always a danger of a cyclist or a car or even a truck on the tracks.
2:07 Piękny widok na Ulriken - najwyższy szczyt w Bergen :)
favoloso!!! grazie
I wish there was a version without reflections in the windshield :P
there is a video with these pictures and music of pink floyd, i saw it once and never could find it again!! someone please help me to find the video??
Like your video but how come you don't use your headlights in the tunnels?
helmitpeak i'm not a train driver,i'm a signalman and i am not from norway :) . I don't know why now headlights in the tunnels.
In this older video from the Bergenbahn have the trains in the tunnels also no headlíghts :

Thanks, I was just wondering.
helmitpeak me too.
Klasse-Video
wow, it was so interesting movie... where i can i find part number 2? i can't wait already
Bergen - Oslo 2/2 (Bergenbahn) : Führerstandsmitfahrt
There should be night-vision so we could see inside tunnels.
Well if the lights came on automatically when the surrounding light dims it would help...like the cars do thsese days.
Nice video, beautiful scenery and a smooth, extensive train route through remote areas. Must've cost a fortune to carve out all the tunnels, for some were extremely long. However, with reference to poster, T. Weed, what is the point of going through tunnels with the headlights off? Nevertheless, thanks for the video.
I showed the video to my little brother one day. Ended up on watching only machines, good bye, ponies - welcome, little man. :)
Would love to see someone put the whole 134 hours of the cruise on here
that are 54 GB for me to upload, maybe later. These are some weeks to continuous upload, if i make it.
I do not understand why i can see the individual nrk- videos only in Norway from the cruise on the nrk-site,but the complete video i can watch.
1:59:52 Haha :) Also if you forward from 1:58:20 to 2:00:00 you can actually see the sun and the shade move :) Pretty cool!
I felt the same way, loving it
At the beginning of the video, the train passes through a long tunnel, but does not turn on its headlights. Is this normal, not to use headlights in tunnels? I would think it to be a risk to the train for the driver not to be able to see what is ahead.
Fantastic Idea. :)
The tunnel is advertising!
So interesting
Великолепно! Поезд едет в облаках (0:50:00)! Excellent! Train rides in the clouds (0:50:00)!
love those wood utility poles!
wonderful.
Amazing road, perfect...
Merci beaucoup pour ce voyage
A Very Great Thanx For Sharing These Moments with us, Just 1 question, at what time did you leave Bergen ?? at the beginning of the video ?
Thankx again
Very costly to construct this track.
What is the percentage of tunnel?
Are the any bells along the track to warn pedestrians that an unseen train is approaching?
Thank you.
RWG Denver, Colorado USA
I take this train every month. Didn't now Germans watched this show
Anzus Yes,i have watched live this show with the Elin Helgheim in 2009.Normal it is impossible the program from NRK in Germany to watch live, but at that time it was possible for me :)
I wish i can say someday that i take this train frequently ...
When was this video made? What time (month) of the year?
Thank you very much for the video, it is breathtaking :)
Beautiful!
