Friday November 27th,2009, over 1,2 million Norwegians watched parts of "Bergensbanen" on NRK2. The longest documentary ever? At least the longest we have made, almost 7 1/2 hours, showing every minute of the scenic train ride between Bergen on the Norwegian west coast, crossing the mountains to the capital of Oslo.
Bergensbanen is 100 years in 2009, and the documentary was a wild idea from NRK staff that came through, and was, surprisingly, a big success.
(The documentary had picture-in-picture clips with videos about Bergensbanen, a reporter interviewing people on the train, music and two cameras pointing to the sides of the train. Because of rights, we had to remove the music and many videoclips, so we decided to make a clean front camera version for this download. It's recorded on a Sony 700 camera in XDCAM HD 1080 50i. The camera has a 30 seconds buffer, making it possible to switch disks when needed. So we have a continuous recording of 7 hours.)

Thank you for posting this extraordinary film. The Norwegian broadcasting company NRK released it in three mega-huge torrent files with the staggering sizes 246, 164 and 22 GB (various formats, same content). The content is free to download, copy and distribute as long as the link to NRK's site is given (as in this case). But those insane file sizes are just over the top for most people. So you have made us all a great service by posting it here, and in such great quality too!

Hi, i have a stupid question. Trains have no light in tunnels or is that because the camera points out too much in front to be lighten by the traiń´s lights ? Have a nice day !

Meines Wissens verkehren seit der im Jahre 1964 abgeschlossenen Elektrifizierung der Bergenbahn Oslo - Bergen auf dieser Strecke planmäßig keine Dieseltriebzüge mehr.
¡Qué belleza de país! Tienen bien cuidada su exuberante naturaleza y los edificios y casas son muy lindos.
¿Qué época del año es? Yo vi otro video con las mismas estaciones de tren, pero casi todo el camino cubierto de nieve, seguramente lo grabaron en invierno.
Lástima que al comenzar no ponen un mapa con la línea del tren para tener una idea de la dirección que va llevando. Pero de todas maneras, el viaje está precioso. Muchas gracias.

Where do you hide the microphone? The train blows by whistle boards and I do not hear any horn. Very disturbing. Should be able to hear windshield wipers, horns, and sounds of activities at the control panel. Something missing here. Please....do something to remedy this problem. I assume the microphone was tossed into the weeds. What gives. srd
The video produced the Norwegian television :) I've already wondered about the microphone. I think the microphone is somewhere in a passenger car behind the locomotive. I think we should not hear what might be said in the cab.
Please. The cab is the heart and soul of the video. The microphone rightfully needs to be in the cab. The train engineers can restrain their colorful comments for one day.
The TV people have done so on all their journeys. I can not help it.
