not to engage in a "who's smarter" ape yelling contest, but robert anton wilson is most definitely the "smartest" here...one of the most "profound" and "truthful" philosophers of the century.

RAW is always on top of every situation.... right on it. Look up some of his stuff on A. Crowley; he knew more about Crowley, probably, than anyone alive at the time. RAW was beyond the scope of modern knowledge. He sits back and lets everyone else tell their stories and then he sets the record straight. RIP RAW.

It seems as if no one on the show, including Bill Maher, realizes Robert Anton Wilson was not only friends with Leary for decades but worked with him extensively in a number of different areas, including Leary's 8 levels of consciousness and chaos magick. What a waste of a brilliant mind sitting there (Wilson), and a waste of time. Maher seems to want to ignore the fact Wilson is even there, Michelle Phillips and David Cross act as if they know what they're talking about.

brand new movie the cable guy! Robert Anton Wilson opened my eyes to the true nature of the universe. Timothy Leary actually postdated an email to Robert Anton Wilson which Robert recieved after Timothy died. "
"One of my favorite Timothy Leary stories was, a month after his death, I got an e-mail from him. It said, "Dear Robert, How are you doing? I'm doing fine over here, but it's not what I expected. Too crowded. Love, Timothy" -Robert Anton Wilson

Leary was not a Harvard 'professor'; he was a researcher and lecturer.
Leary actually got out and was kept safe by the Weather Underground, whom he later repaid by informing on to the FBI.
Leary, when he was suggesting that everyone try LSD, was asked about the people who might be damaged by it. 'That's Darwin for you,' he compassionately replied.
Leary did both good work and also exceptionally sloppy work for which 'sounds cool' seems to have been the standard of evidence.

I like how RAW calls out Bob Guccione Jr in the Pope comment... awesome.

  • @naseymthethief

Certainly plenty of bunk LSD made post 60's, but apparently they'd never heard of William Leonard Pickard. It's likely they were referring to ALD-52, commonly referred to as "Sunshine", which is experientially very similar to LSD-25, but supposedly superior in its physiological effects. It seems not to have been made "commercially available" post-60's in the same way that LSD-25 certainly has. Though it's true that lulls in production DO occur.

Bill Maher has changed his mind on psychedelics and even had his own rant about how psychedelics can cause positive behavioral changes in people. He's also wrong in saying that LSD no longer exists. It does but it can be a bit hard to find because a lot of the people selling "acid" nowadays are actually selling research chemicals.

Maher is completely wrong about the formula disappearing. The laboratory formula was printed in the Anarchist's Cookbook, and I'm sure the formula is not difficult to obtain. But, one must know a lot about chemistry to make it. Any 2nd year chemistry student could make it.

It even comes on colorful blotters.... like a ticket for a ride :D LSD is a funny joke on life as you know it, and by hearing this joke you become enlightened x)

maybe afterwards, but during them it's hell... you sure you've experienced a legit bad trip, and not just a difficult trip? i mean, i do see how you could like how it affects you afterwards, but for me, bad trips are just too awful and they usually mess me up for a few days after. it takes a while for me to appreciate them. i still find that i learn a lot on good trips too. i'm introverted to begin with, so psychedelics work well for me. i only have bad trips when i'm in a bad mental state

    • @chillingcat5033

    • @SuperSaiyanScandinavian
      @SuperSaiyanScandinavian Год назад

@@chillingcat5033 you probably would have had a different answer 9 years ago, but now with hindsight and just being in a different mindset, i dont think i really learned from the bad trips. i think if anything they just fucked me up more and made it harder to get my mental health back on track. i just felt like it opened up doors that worsened my anxiety and those doors never really closed, i just got better at dealing with anxiety. im not against psychedelics tho. everyone is different and whenever the opportunity comes up (which isn't often these days) i will usually take a trip. i haven't done lsd in a long time and am on the fence on using it since it's hard to know if you're getting legit lsd and not just a research chem that mimics it well. but anytime im offered shrooms i tend to take them still. i basically do psychedelics once or twice a year at most these days.

Well put!---the reaction to it was/is stupid, and it has no business being on Schedule 1.
But a smart drugs dealer and LSD user insisted to me that yes, in some individuals, a single dose of too high a size & a bad set could bring out latent insanity---and that to claim that this were 'not LDS's fault' is to ignore the fact that latent insanity can last an innocuous lifetime.
Leary's fatal flaw, of which Hunter Thompson wrote: he believed in religious nonsense, some cosmic purpose to it all.
