- On today's program, I give my initial review of Tame Impala's fourth album, The Slow Rush. This is not like my more in-depth reviews where I play music clips but it's more of the cuff and just my first impressions of the record. #TameImpala #TheSlowRush #VinylRewind

I opted not to use music clips since it's getting harder and harder to use even a 5 sec clip on RUclips but don't worry I'll still use clips in future reviews, just maybe not for future first impression videos like this one. Also, for those curious, I picked up the blue and red variant on vinyl. Thanks again for watching!
Well, maybe 3-4 seconds? Sometimes it can be a sufficient piece.
@truth nuggets the feelings and positivity in On Track hit me straight away, and I love the background shouting 'yeah!' as well. The feelings and voices in One More Hour are beautiful and sad. I don't understand why you haven't liked these songs or mentioned them so there we go
I agree, I think people are being harsh on the album. I've listened to it a few times front to end and every listen it gets better.
I’ve listened to it many times already and you are absolutely correct. One More Hour, the final track, has probably one of Kevin’s greatest endings to a song.
just like arctic monkey last album and yeaah its not for everybody
You can listen to a Rihanna record on repeat and by the end you’ll probably love it. It’s fine to accept that this is Kevin’s first miss
its exactly the same for me bro
Brent Valleywhag lmao Anti is actually a good album and she has a tame cover
I completely agree with you saying that this album grows on you. My first listen was a bit underwhelming, but now 5 days later I appreciate it a lot more.
Yes. Especially with One More Year. It was my fourth/fifth favorite song off the album at first but now it’s my favorite
Hahaha you’re TRYING to like it
@@brentvalleywhag3477 no, i'm just saying that a lot of music doesn't hit you as hard at first glance.
thats literally the exact same thing with/for me bro
TRUTH
It's nice seeing someone nerd out to this album as much as I do.
The older you get, the more you’ll love and understand this album, trust me.
ok but can we take a moment to appreciate his presentation skills???
i thought it was pretty good, but man the album is EVERYWHERE.
gris77 give it time man. It’s just raw, emotionally and sonically, that’s the point.
The only crazy changes are just the interludes, but the album has consistent mixing, some actually say it’s too plain and all similar so idk, just give it time
I’m not critical of Kevin Parker’s music. It’s his journey, and he’s sharing it with the world. His music is pure joy and beauty. We can all relate to his topics and themes. I’m personally so grateful that Kevin Parker decided to share his musical talent with us. It’s so beautiful and my life is happier and more fun because his music is in my life. Thank you, Kevin.
I adore this album. It really touched me, and I actually think it’s one of my favorite of his. My favorite tracks are “One More Year”, “Posthumous Forgiveness”, “Breathe Deeper”, “Lost in Yesterday”, “Is it True” and “One More Hour”. I don’t know why, but I really emotionally connected with this album. Anyway, great review as always!!
I think many people actually expected another Currents, which set the bar really high back then, and were then disappointed by how much of a different direction this album took. I think it's absolutely brilliant how he challenged his own sound yet again and crafted that into such a sonically and conceptually cohesive album. And even though its color palette might not feel as diverse as I think Currents' did, it still manages to deliver and even exceed expectations like Tame Impala always does.
you really know your stuff and do your research. not that i'm surprised. great as always.i heard the 90's influence on breathe deeper as well. to me, it reminded me of PM Dawn.
"The crazy 70's siren sound" on 'it might be time' sounds like Kevin has replayed a riff from Quincey Jones Ironside Album which was also used as the original theme for the 70's detective show. Yes I'm a boomer 😊
He sampled it
The siren sounds are eerily vv similar to the core groove of The Logical Song by Supertramp.
@@curiouslyunruffled are you talking about the keyboards on both songs? I hear a similarity with that but there are no sirens in The Logical Song
@@blink182lives100 oh yeah, the keyboard sounds. I kinda mixed the two up lol.
@@curiouslyunruffled It does! Kevin has said that Supertramp is a big influence so its no coincidence
the congas just adds this special favlor and boogieness
On Track.
So Kind and Beautiful..
It helps me a lot
its my favorite song, the lyrics resonate with me so much
This is the most well put review of this album I've seen, didn't expect less from you.
Your reviews are always so fantastic. I really need to comment more. I love how much enthusiasm you have for the music you share with us. Someday I'll be able to afford a record player and get more records.
I enjoy a lot hearing you talk about this magnificent album.
Fantastic review!
Absolutely loved this whole video!!! Until now I hadn't seen anyone else who thought of the record in a similar way like I did!! It was so great to hear your opinions and thoughts on the album! I agreed with everything you said and I also loved what you said about giving the album some time, and letting it stand on it's own! What a wonderful video!!!!
Great explaining the sound of the album, I’ve been waiting for this album since the singles were released. I’m totally gonna pick up this vinyl this weekend. Can’t wait to own it.
It is incredible how high quality all your videos are. You deserve many more views, keep up the great work!
Great stuff as always
Wow your channel blew me away! Fantastic in depth review and explanations about tracks. More importantly I love the setting in which your reviewing! Fastest sub click ever, thank you for the review sir!
Your channel is really interesting, helpful and amazing. Thank you from Colombia!
This channel has a lot of potential. High quality production. A unique vibe. As well as intelligent takes, glad I found it.
great review. loved this new record. keep it up!
I absolutely love the album.
Love ur vids man, great review, love the album to bits
Unsubscribing to Fantano, subscribing to you instead
Oh because he disagrees with you? Because he’s not an echo chamber of every tame song is amazing?
He gave literally lil pumps album a better score thats when i was done
Nicholas Buccelli exactlyyyy dude, his grading criteria is so inconsistent. It’s like he uses a different set of grading criteria for different artists.
Dylan Scott bruh you’re just gonna unsubscribe because he had a different opinion from you?
MasonH yes
great record, breathe deeper and it might be time have been on repeat for me since first listen. still prefer currents for how out there it is, but this is definitely a close second in kev's discog. people are way too immediately harsh on records like this man, sometimes great lps are slow burners
Currents was likable immediately. Slow Rush is a grower that will open more over time. It has more to offer than Currents.
Might be Time is everything what this album represents.
For me, this is where i jumped on the Kevin Parker train.
Now i'm someone who doesn't listen to a whole lot of new music. But i had heard more and more good things about Tame Impala, and finally decided to check out his stuff. It was just when this album came out and the first song i heard was Lost In Yesterday. I fell in love instantly. It didn't take long until i bought the album, and the whole thing is just fantastic.
Since then i have gone back to listen to his earlier albums, and for me, this is the best one. Might be because i heard it first, and my opinions might change with time. But what i love exactly about The Slow Rush, is that the music is both groovy and psychedelic at the same time, it's so original. Also it sounds like a combination of 70s, 80s and 90s, along with sounding current. Just brilliant.
All your videos work like relaxing conversation after hard working day!
u never dissapoint. great research and review. i agree. loved the album.
Great video, keep it up!
Really geat review. This album is incredible.
A review that i like to see !!! 💘
excellent review. Thnx!
Remembering how underrated this channel is
What a nice review. 🌾
I love how you talk about music
I’ve been waiting for this video since the Currents video ❤️
It Might Be Time says it all. Sooooo good!!!
Just listened to it today for the first time. Really digging it so far
couldn't have said this better myself
👏👏👏 well done, sir
Yeah I was waiting for your analysis of this, your last video on Tame Impala was so good!! This album is fantastic and very pleasing to listen to. It's definitely different than his older stuff but just as magical and unique!
Álbum of the year for sure!
Hold your horses, Gutierrez
nahhhhhhhhh
Pushing it
I'm waiting for the new rhcp album with JF so we'll see
Nah, 6/10
8:36 you mean the Kill Bill Siren sound? Yea I caught that too
Joel Nava THAT’S HOW I RECOGNIZED IT. Thank you.
been waiting for this comment since the song dropped. tarantino needs to use it might be time in a movie
My two favorite non singles are Breathe Deeper and Tomorrow’s Dust. One More Year and On Track also classics
Love Kevin, but Tame fans can be quite degrading. Currents holds a special place in my heart cause I heard it right as I was breaking up and it was a type of therapy. There will never be another album like it. Kevin won't make another album like it. Embrace the fact that people; even artist, change and grow. Otherwise, "It might be time to face it" 👈🏿
Yes I agree these tame fans try to one up each other claiming to know him sooner etc it's all very frustrating and toxic and I bet it has a greater impact on Kevin Parker
King stuff right here 😤🤴
Absolutely agree, Currents is a breakup album that I think you either "get" or you don't, and the rest of Kevin's discog is kinda unremarkable compared to the emotion of that record
@@TheNignag89 Calling Lonerism "unremarkable" compared to Currents is probably the shittiest take I've ever heard. Lonerism holds just as much emotion, if not more, and it also happens to be a break up album or atleast a troubled love album.
And if people were real fans of Tame Impala they'd realize the music has change on each project. No big deal, the new songs aren't my thing but it doesn't make me hate their old stuff.
Thank you for this great and in-depth review 👍 I am a huge Kevin Parker fan yet I was going into this album with an open mind and not expecting anything and I LOVED IT! Favorite track is hard to pick, but I think Is It True is my favorite. Apparently he wrote the bass in a grocery store! This album makes me all the more excited to see him live in June!!!!
Thanks again and I love your videos ♥️👍
Hey Ellen, in which interview did he share this story about the grocery store in?
@@curiouslyunruffled it was actually on the Spotify slow rush time warp!!! Some songs had intros of him talking briefly about the song! 👍
@@emskow2012 Thanks! :)
Nice review! I would say the same. Its beautifully crafted and sonically. Lonerism is still my favorite Tame Impala album(songwriting wise) and plus it was the first album I listened from them because that's when in 2012 I found out about him. I have a story on release day too. I went down to my local record store Called Fingerprints in Long Beach and waited 3 hrs in my car until they recieved it and then my car wouldn't start after I came back buying the record and then I had to call triple A, so I will forever remember that day lol
Honestly have no idea how much I’ve listened to this album now, but I absolutely love it
Alright, this album is fucking awesome
Friendship ended with Fantano, Now Vinyl Rewind is my best friend
BESt description ever of this album❤️
Finally!! thank uuu
Really liked this review! (And not just because I agreed with almost everything you said haha) This album is a warmer, more soulful experience than Currents. It's a little less daring, sure, and I do think some of the lyrics are a little bland at times, but all in all it's a pleasure to listen to, and the concept is definitely relatable. I can't wait to play it all summer, and for many summers to come.
LOVE IT SO MUCH! one more year is the best track in my opinion.
the description is so accurate
Simple and easy: I love it.
Thank you sir!
You sold me!!!
These reviews are great keep it up! I do wish you would spend a short amount of time on the quality of the actual pressing itself. It would viewers make purchasing decisions.
I love this channel. I really do. However, some constructive criticism. It’s good that you point out the positives this album offers but you also need to point out some of the negative points about the album. If not, just give every album a 10/10 already. I love this channel so much but if you’re going to make a “review” which entails both good and bad things about an album (thus the name review) then you can’t be praising every part of every song on the album. By then you should just call it an absolute masterpiece. But keep up the great work.
I'd add to this that I feel like it was a review from the perspective of Kevin Parker considering he kept talking about what Kevin was doing and his mentality while making the record. I'd like to hear more opinion about the record and less of the making of. No disrespect the videos are great
Did you watch the whole video? He says at the end (around 15:50) that it's not a full on review of the album, just first impressions.
@@cassieb.9082 To quickly say 15 mins into a video titled "Review" video that its not a review video is still sloppy. I love the rest of the content though
Dennis C. Lmaoo
YES
It's so amazing .......U love it. Couldn't agree more 🤠
thanks man
I still enjoyed more Currents, but that's like a perfect pop psicodelia album. Luv your vids man keep it up!
there's nothing substantially psychedelic about either of the last two albums
Aaron Neumann what?
Aaron Neumann lol if you don’t think let it happen or nangs are psychedelic, never mind the general sound of the album, then i just feel bad for you man
@@demezzerate6769 it's hardly psychedelic. psych rock would sound like king gizz or hendrix. this is pop. as for currents, it's still not very psychedelic, esp compared to the first two TI albums. if folks are gonna call it psych rock, that's a stretch.
Aaron Neumann psychedelic doesn’t imply rock. Currents obviously isn’t rock. But it’s still psychedelic by nature. Maybe you need to understand that.
great job! please do LONERISM!! CHEERS!
Currents was such a great album, I felt that with the themes coming off of this new record, I liked most of it, but definitely not what I expected.
I like your style, it’s like watching Dale Cooper break down recent music.
Philip C Coggin damn good album
It’s a great album, period!
can you make a video on what audio equipments you use to enjoy your music collection? Thank you for the great content.
I really like the name of the album. The Slow Rush, it tell you to rush in it, but slowly. And eventually it'll grow on you. It gets me after 3 times of listening to it. Now it' my best Kevin Parker album.
Will you ever review Tyler, The Creators’ IGOR?
kaelikinz i second this
Third!
Fourth!
Fifth
Siiiixth
Promise me that you are never going to stop making videos.....
I absolutely adore this album
13:12 preach
YES I LUV YOU
when it came out, I was like "i don't like this album" , I can't even enjoy it, i thought I will keep listening to innerspeaker, Lonerism, and currents..
Thanks Kevin, I really really really love it! :')
Can you review sufjan Steven's "age of adz" or "Illinois" or the remix album "the greatest gift"? Been really digging those and would love to hear your thoughts.
this album is great. I'll assure you people will look back to it as the underrated album in the discography.
You got big hand 🖐️
Thank you for the great review.
I mean after Fantano gave it a 6 I was a bit confused because it is not that bad for Christ's sake.
I didn't like it as much as Currents but you just cant really compare the two albums as they are quite different.
One shall begin to learn that opinions aren’t facts
@@umanuu I am quite aware of that.
Everyone can have an opinion but that doesn't mean that opinion is true.
@@stefangeorgiev5198 Lmao read what you wrote again. Personally I think TSR is his worst album yet, but that is my OPINION. and to me it is true.
It’s the epitome of a 6
Hopefully one day he’ll be reviewing my music
Stop.
Stop.
Stop.
Stop.
Stop.
The only thing more impressive than this album is your bone structure.
Could you do Nothing To Fear by Oingo Boingo?
Can you review beach boys endless summer?
Hey!!
Honestly this review is so much better than what Fantano did
You actually took the time to listen to it properly.
I wish this review was as long as the currents one.
I absolutely love the album

REFRIGERATORS
I liked the album, at first i was kind of dissapointed, after a few more listens from beggining to end i started liking it a little bit more, but i was kind of expecting kevin to make something completly new and throw a curve ball like he did with lonerism and currents and this felt like "Currents II" but changing from 70s-80s electronic sound to a 90s electronic sound. Maybe it will grow on me, still a solid album tho..
My list of Tame Impala fav albums:
1) Currents
2) The Slow Rush
3) Lonerism
4) Innerspeaker
nah
just seems like a polished Currents imo, yeah it sounds good but I expected it be something different than currents
David Jacob it is def different. Not the hugest departure (compared to his other releases) but this is not Currents again. Minus instant destiny. He could’ve cut that song though fr
Now The Strokes, The New Abnormal :)
Five years to get it right. Well ... I guess the Beatles could have gone from Meet the Beatles all the way to Abbey Road with nothing in-between.
Actually, I'm a big fan of Kevin ... getting the 2LP set. I hope we don't have to wait another five for the next one.
I like your old stuff better than your new stuff.
The Slow Rush is just like the prequel trilogy of Star Wars. Really liked it the first listen because it’s something you go into assuming you’ll love. Then after some time passes and you listen to it again, and the truth hits you. This album is just ok.
