Piñatas are not from China, they are pre-hispanic. The piñata of today has Spanish influence (7 original sins) but the real piñata has been around for many centuries before the Spanish invasion. Las piñatas no son de China son de México lindo y querido, si muero lejos de tí que digan que estoy dormido y que me traigan a tí.

Buen reportaje. Las originales eran con olla de barro, no? aun hay lugares donde las hacen con ollas de barro. Son mas caras, pero cuando se rompen hacen gran espectaculo al salir disparados todos los dulces. Y originalmente (o al menos en las fiestas de posadas en diciembre), las llenaban con frutas como cañas de azucar, tejocotes, cacahuates, etc. En las de periodico no es viable porque queda todo molido su interior, en las de barro no pasaba eso porque se quebraba y la fruta no recibia mucho daño.
Good story. The originals were made with clay pot. There are still places where made with clay pots. They are more expensive, but when they break make great show to shoot out all sweets. And originally (or at least at parties inns in December), they filled them with fruit and sugar cane, hawthorn, peanuts, etc. In those newspaper it is not viable because it is all ground inside, in the clay pots that did not happen because it cracked and fruit did not receive much damage.

It started in china then it spread to Spain and then to its empire so its more Chinese or spanish than mexican
Pilñatas...
Everybody think that is Mexican thing, but to be honest, is a Chinese party item, brought it by Italians to Europe, and brought to Mexico by the Spanish.
However, in Mexico we put the spice in the piñatas and became a totally new thing :P
Esa solo es una versión, entre los mayas ya existia la tradición de romper una olla colgada, llena de granos de cacao, se rompía con los ojos tapados, así que se cree que los curas españoles de ahí tomaron la idea para evangelizar.
