I honestly would love to see more than just speedball tournaments, like look at castle jam in new jersey, a 3 team style attack and defend with flag pulls and certain areas to cover, I feel like that would be interesting to watch for a tournament style
Why don’t they just live stream these things on RUclips if they don’t already? The core viewers will watch and then once it trends it will gain traction. Tv is so expensive to produce these days I feel like.
I'm 33 and have been playing since I was 13. Once I got hooked, my dad would pull up ESPN and show off the old Smart Parts cup and it was the coolest thing I ever saw. My optimism is high for the future of the sport. - Sam
They’re gonna have to evolve how it’s broadcasted in order to make it more accessible and understandable. Arial shots of a lane locked match is a snooze fest even for seasoned players that are watching. POV shots, more views inside and below the net line, maybe some IR devices tracking player head direction or marker direction similar to the tech from when the nhl did the puck tracker, maaybe make the it change color while firing, some mic’d up players and ambient mics inside the netting. Change how games rotate and follow some teams into the pit, get more pit chatter and tie viewers into the strategy and drama portion. Relatable and understandable stat tracking would be a great way to start putting individuals and their names in the limelight, which is a great way for non players to relate with the game. Sports fans love knowing who the superstars are and why they’re superstars. They’re fans of players just as much as the teams they follow.
yeah. I agree. The split deck needs to go for pro matches too. And phootage of watching a player is boring. Lets see what they're shooting. Pink shell paint is a great start. And bring the nxl Europe 4 pod cap
With the varieties of durable and portable cams these days, all of this is definitely what they should be focused on. Applications of 360° cams would especially be cool.
The NXLE paint cap makes the games more interesting as it will force players to eventually make moves. Sure, holding lanes and zones is crucial, but the sport is exciting when exciting things happen (who knew?).
I’m so confused. I haven’t played in over 10 years. I still have all my old guns and gear. I’ve always enjoyed Paintball content on RUclips but never really get it suggested. Suddenly my Reddit is slammed with paintball, my RUclips slammed with paintball and what do you know paintball BACK ON TV. I guess it’s time to get back out on the field and play some paintball.
I think the first thing to resurrect paintball is to make the NXL have the major events at real paintball fields, not at random open spaces in various parts of the country. Pour all the money back into the BIG local fields and stop the bleeding. Obviously the field would need about 3/4 of the infrastructure already, but the NXL could fund the rest of it. Fortify these fields and keep them alive. That’s how you keep the sport alive.
NXL doing something for the casual player and local fields would be a big pivot. I don't think that jives with getting some Pro players paid. I hope they don't start pulling ads from UFC and other sources. That won't be healthy, more predatory.
@@somebrains5431 what does the NXL do? Serious question. Just looked and I have 60k more subs than them, and they’re the PB industry’s league. Did they just aggrandize themselves as the league?
Yeah they need to do a more of a wide view 3rd person pov style camera!!with like that other guy said some type of light on the paintballs so players know what there shooting at, and trackers on players head. paintball will have to evolve in how we broadcast it some how!!!!! ❤
Lol (paintballs back on tv) 'Gotta make a video' Video: "Yeah, paintballs back on tv... huge news, let me check my notes...." (Checks notes) "Yeah paintballs back on tv" 😂 Lets goooo
My thoughts as a retired player. Camera placement and use, player give away. And hopefully no payments to teams. And are the commercials paintball related or other national brands!
I'm just getting back into checking out paintball and I've been digging through a lot of the pro scene content, and yeah it's kind of shocking just how poorly the sport is shot on video. So much of the video content is a close angle of a player humping a bunker, shot from the side, shouting and reloading. You get no sense of the head to head action, no concept of the geography going on each round, no sense of what is happening leading up to a play. These dudes are badass athletes who are basically playing CoD IRL down to insane movement and if the different leagues and channels can't figure out how to make clips of players sliding, diving and shooting go viral, that's user error on the leagues part. They need to sit down and watch how esports such as Counter-Strike and VALORANT are broadcast, and I know that video games have the luxury of free cam, but you can see they have the overhead camera rigs at pro events, I just never see angles of them being used in a way to communicate the play on the field. More angles from the corners, zooming in over the player's shoulders would go a long way too. They just need to stop shooting it in a tight zoom on a single player from the side angles. It's not going to grow this sport.
More money is just overall a good thing for the league. Better equipment, prize structure, etc. As someone that loves watching competitive CS2, I have to admit that their major events are an absolute blast to watch, and I really do hope that paintball can get close to that quality.
@@BFPGear I think the bones are there and have been for a long time, the competition at the top levels, the action and gameplay, it's a blast to watch, I think that next step comes with an evolution in the coverage.
FIrst week of August 2024 we see tv crumbling. Layoffs, write offs, and restructuring of broadcasters. I don't know how the NXL stumbled into what they did, but I imagine the backroom laughter was loud. I don't know if they're so stupid they'll go beg hat in hand for more time slots for future episodes. Oh well, maybe they'll get those future time slots if they're really unlucky.
Imagine the hot takes like this for a sport like tire wrestling. We remain optimistic and hopeful. The ESPN broadcast was a solid representation overall, and made it really easy to understand what was happening for those that aren't familiar with the sport.
Good move again, and as someone who remember and watched the NPPL/NCPA to get exposure. I love it but the concern is with the impulsive nature of the sport with profanity and some other hijinks. Paintball is fast and raw and with the flow of the game they need to be media friendly in an effort to have the reach beyond the regulars that play and enjoy the sport.
Unfortunately pb industry timing is fkd again as our economy takes a shit paintball will fall again just like it did in 08. Shame and as for Nike they ruined surfing as they will do with pb. You honestly don’t know what you’re talking about buddy. Appreciate your podcast and effort but ya look at past history and study more.
Tom Coke was getting sunshine blown up his ass against thinking it's one person saying what is in this post. In reality it's a lot of people saying it. Paintball needs an enema. The old crew needs to go away and new direction needs to happen. Not for just the benefit of a few, but for all.

@BaxterretxaB currently gosports does stream nxl tournaments live and they do release matches here and there
This is just great news all around for the sport!
This is awesome I hope your predictions are on point because this is making dreams… I’m 25 and have played since 7. So stoked broskis.

Great channel, intelligent takes if you ask me!
Great to here!

Look at all of this positive and forward thinking feedback. None of it was evident in the broadcast.

All NXL finals participants should be fitted with a gopro style camera for POV highlights/broadcasts.

Maybe we can get some capital injections for improved camera angles and live broadcasting going forward if this is a success

You left out the most important thing which is that chicks are going to go crazy for paintballers.

paintball been dead in main stream media for years tv rating won’t sky rocket
Again, it's all hopeful/wishful thinking. I am highly optimistic for the future if things go well.

Nike destroyed skateboarding, could easily destroy paintball
And there’s x games
It'd be awesome to see Paintball on the X-Games honestly.
