Currently in the process of getting back into the sport. I just remembered this channel from back when I first subbed in 2017 and now I'm basically binging your stuff. I'm sure some people can watch this video and simply listen to what you say and move on, but I just really wanted to say I appreciate the TON of work you put into your vids. The editing, camera shots, shot setup, script (if you have one, I'm not sure), are all done super well. Very easy and enjoyable to watch + understand. Keep up the great content!
Nothing elevates your paintball experience more than having great shooting paint. It’s worth the extra if you can spare it. That Valken Redemption Pro is some serious stuff.
when i first got my Mini in 2008 i was amazed by the accuracy it had with cheap paint. but after one trip to the field, and watching my marker turn into a shotgun after the paint broke inside the barrel making the gun useless, ive since only used middle/high grade paintballs. spend a little more money and get a lot more performance!
I remember when Dye made their CG paint. That stuff was probably the best paint ever made but so freaking expensive! I guess that’s why it isn’t around anymore haha
@Fastlane5.0 yeeaaahhhh, you might be right. I started playing around 2003 and kept up with it until about 2011 when real life got in the way haha. But yeah where I live, our local shop was closely connected to Evil & PMI so most of what we shot back then was different grades of Evil stuff. And you’re right, a lot of it was pretty great.
I swapped to an mg100 with first strike. So glad I did!! I enjoy a tricked out mg with canted red dot and fiber optic 4x sight with mags. So much fun for woodsball! Great vid!
If you figure you only get so much time per day, per match, etc. it’s totally worth it to upgrade to the 50-70$ range of paint. There’s nothing more frustrating than watching balls bounce off someone you really want out; which could also cost you the game. Secondly, if you practice accuracy like you should, nailing three to four shots on your target with an ultra bright paint instead of wasting 20 rounds of cheap paint where one might break is still saving you money. You’ll spend more initially, but more will break and end up lasting longer since you’ll be shooting less. Personal choice: Valken Redemption Pro. Hasn’t failed me once and had a lovely yellow/green fill.
Your bounce test is on par for infinity. You have to throw it pretty hard at a flat hard surface to get it to break which kinda sucks since its some of the more accurate field grade paint in that $45 price range. Good for woodsball since you can shoot through thick brush but I wouldn't recommend it (or any other field grade paint) for rec or speedball. I also never saw any above .684 (usually .682 or smaller) so it fitting perfectly in a .687 is a little strange. Good video about something I have to answer almost every weekend
Where I play there is a ton of brush on some of the maps and the fragile stuff never makes it through, so the stuff with the harder shell actually pays off sometimes
Back around 2004 to 2006, walmart sold a white box of 2,000 paintballs (no brand on the box, literally just all white) and those were $25 each and those paintballs shot and had the fill of $80 boxes today.
I'm glad I'm an adult now (27). I can buy ANYTHING I want and I'm not stuck behind my parent's paycheck... When I was a kid I had to buy a relatively cheap PB gun and cheap paintballs. Now I got a $1600 gun and get the best paintballs (just bought everything about a week ago). I'm getting back into the sport... I can't wait! Now I just need to find a Paintball course to play at. If anyone lives near Jacksonville / St. Augustine and knows of a good place please let me know!
Also depends how its been stored. You store and treat cheap paint well, that will be better than porly stored and transported tourny paint. If your playing woods big games then lean more towards the cheap paint as it "may" get thru leaves etc better.
Difference comes down to three things (generally) that I've seen in my years of paintball: 1.) *Fragility of casing* There's a reason the 6' ft drop test exists, and it's to test this characteristic exactly. You could probably fire off 50 rounds of Spyder Premium and have half the batch bounce off a while. There's nothing more frustrating than watching a dozen rounds ricochet off an opponent and then get taggged yourself in the ensuing gunfight. 2.) *Fill* Off brand, white box paint usually has odd colors (blue, white, green) that are easy to wipe off and has a lower viscosity in regards to thickness. High end paint has bright, neon fill (pink, orange, yellow) that has a much thicker PEG and is hard to wipe. 3.) *Reviews* Yes, believe it or not, online or in store reviews are worth there weight in gold. It's why brands like Valken, Empire, and Evil dominate the paintball market. If a thousand people all five star a brand of paint; there's probably a reason. If a thousand people one star a brand of paint....there's PROBABLY A REASON. Can't tell you how many times someone boasted about buying two cases of cheaper paint to my single case of expensive paint, and proceeded to spend the day bouncing shots and endlessly cleaning out their barrel from breakages. All that being said, the best all around paint I use (live in San Diego, CA) is Valken Graffiti. Retails at roughly $70 a case and comes in all neon color palettes. *Caveat* being I buy them from a store, in person, and NEVER have them shipped to me. Have had (no bs) one ball break out of the last 6 cases and zero bounces. Stellar paint, if not pricey.
I shot $32 Defy paint in my Mini Gs, Shocker Amp and Tippmann TMC Elite and it shot all over the place. Shot $60 G.I. Sports paint and it was accurate AF. Marker, barrel, stainless steel inserts.. didn't matter as much as the paint quality.
why does it cost more money to make a well shaped ball? They've been making these things since like the early eighties right? Is there a switch on the machine that says janky/expensive?
It's likely all made on similar machines but the expensive stuff has a higher rejection rate for bad / non uniform balls. Between the exra quality check and tossing 10% that bumps up cost. Lower uniformity balls can probably be run faster on the machine vs the expensive ones.
Excellent evaluation ! You are the man ! Can you dig into the First Strike rounds, or expand into pepper ball for home defense ? We live somewhat remote and actually coyotes, raccoon gangs, varmints, We would rather sting them with an inert ball or less lethal option. Thanks !
Played a tourney where the field only supplied the infinity, it was about 32c out and 40% humidity, that stuff bounced worse than popcorn on a hot skillet. Cleaning up afterwards we swept up unbroken balls by the box full. Wish dye cg was still around like so many others hell expensive but the accuracy and consistency was only matched by factory fresh marbelizers
Agreed. I have emailed manufacturers for adding a MM/DD/YEAR. add to bag NOT BOX! Ideally would like to see Run # and operator. HELL Eclipse does the Techs name on the Markers.
Unfortunately lots of distributors would lose their entire business over product losses. People won't buy old paint if they have a choice. Too much product sits and would be lost profit. Only way to stay in business is to let it sit until sold. I do wish that there were an option to be able to order paint fresh off the factory supply truck.
@@stevenbiedrzycki7046 Not only that, but paint being "old" is deceptive and doesn't necessarily make it bad if it's stored decently. I've had paint sit for months and months and it shot better than "fresh" paint.
@@MrMalicious5 yeah but let's look at paint we'll be seeing more of in the upcoming weeks. Glow in the dark zombie paint. That stuff is made in one batch. And sits until it sells out. That can be 6 months or 3 years. That paint sits in one spot in a climate controlled warehouse growing dimples and settling pigment to one side of the ball. That's terrible. We wanted to set up our local field for galaxy paintball. With blacklights and music. But we couldn't get fresh paint unless we ordered enough SKIDS to make it worth GI's time. Otherwise we deal with dimpled paint that has the pigment cemented to one side that hooks at 90° five feet out of the barrel.
Played at a field that had cheap and tournament grade paint. I swear I could just stand in the open and tank all the rentals shots cause everything was bouncing off me. All while I was racking up the kills.
hey! i hope you had it figured out two months later lol. if you’re asking for paint advice, we’ll honestly just start out with whatever is sold at the parks :) with the rentals. once you start moving up then when you buy your weapon you can always snoop around the paint sold and either ask for which is recommended or just find quality over price, or price over quality if your just looking to have some fun not really “tournament” level fun. as for how you should go about getting your foot in. well i actually started rental, then found myself buying everything else but my first marker lol. so i had everything but would still rent out an upgraded marker. then eventually i bought my marker. honestly the first purchases you really need is a good mask. don’t use those rental ones. look into the Dye i5s personal favorite :) but to each their own
I mostly use HK select because my shop only sells HK paint and occassionally you'll find a pallet of Graffiti. I think the select is pretty good for a lower end paint and the only reason I prefer it is because I have a 170r that can shoot anything well and 2 cases of select is the same price as 1 case of tournament paint
@@ashravenpb I think we mostly do. The shop manager works for HK so they probably get some of the better stuff then what HK sends out to shops that are farther away. At least that's how it seems to me using a couple different shops before finding this one. Edit: grammer hard lol

Great video, outlining what you should be paying for when you fork over that extra money is something I never think about... and probably don't always get my monies worth because of it.
Hey Brad, just getting back into the sport, I'm sure you've talked about this sort of stuff before but: Do you have any tips on movement for taller/heftier players? Also tips in avoiding tunnel vision (not the medical kind)? Your videos showing up in my feed is about half of what got me back into paintball, keep up the good work!
Hey Tech, I'm 6'1 so I can speak on the tall side. If I'm running forward I keep my torso bent forward like Olympic sprinters do off of their start gate, this keeps my momentum forward incase I need to dive, I am now not as tall as I am if I were running straight up, and it allows me to scan everything ahead of me as I get to my bunker. If I'm playing in the back and need to fill either way to the side, I make sure I put in whatever can stop me and run and gun to the next bunker with full conviction and without hesitation. Once I get close to the bunker, I do what I would call a baseball slide, but more of where the guy on first is leading off the box and then the pitcher throws the ball to first so the runner does this fast sideways slide, if you understand what I'm saying. I noticed that most of the times when I hesitate when moving is when I get shot. During your practice, or if you just play for fun. Try practicing getting bunker to bunker as fast as you can and as low as you can (without sacrificing speed or balance) and see how that works for you. Hope this helped
Yes, there is a questioned missed. Why do those mentioned criteria make the pro nearly double as expensive? Is the fill so much more costly? Is a thicker shell more costly than a thiner one? Etc...
It's kind of sad that many fields use the cheap stuff for rental guns (granted, those guns chop the real brittle stuff). With newer players who don't know what to expect, getting bounced over and over by hard paint is a good way to make them not want to come back.
hi I am a new player gone a few times with rentals and want to go a step up can you do a review on the Spyder Fenix please saw it at my local store and wanted some more info
Before purchasing a paintball marker I highly suggest to get a mask firstif you haven't done so. Any mask on $60 to $100 for beginner or budget is a great start. I would suggest to check out Tippman Cronus. I hope this help.
This is ancient by today's standards. Spyders aren't relevant anymore, get an older used planet eclipse geo or ego, or an axe, or a gmek And do not get a Tippmann Cronus lol
I have a Freak Barrel question. I have a spyder freak barrel kit but a Mini GS which is obviously Autococker threaded. I bought the barrel converter (spyder to ac) instead of a new ac back but I feel like the gap from the converter is hurting my accuarcy since the insert does not sit flush. Can you confirm the converters do hurt accuracy and let me know if I should break down and just buy the AC back. TY.
it shouldn't have much of an affect accuracy wise but I try to avoid barrel adapters because the ball has to go through the adapter, which has a large bore, into the smaller bore of the barrel. If the barrel isn't chamfered then theres a higher chance of breaking paint. AC backs can be found on ebay for $35-$40 so it wouldn't be a bad idea to get one
@@ashravenpb Exactly if the adapter has a larger bore than the barrel you're shooting into, there can be issues. Less so if the barrel has a larger bore than the adapter. Not to mention if the threads of the adapter are less than perfectly square and centered properly to keep the freak insert flush there can be serious issues. Sounds silly but I've seen it happen with a few adapters over the years. In your case I would see if you actually have any issues first. If not then run with it. If so then buy a proper back.
My .02 No. I don't think more expensive paint is worth it. In the grand scheme of things when your slinging hundreds of rounds out on the field, I doubt most would even notice how a $30 case shoots versus an $80 case. That being said, I don't play serious tournaments, only rec so I don't care lol but if I did play tourny ball, I'd spend a little more
@paintballruinedmylife what are you gaining with purchasing a high end marker? Like the Virtue Ace or Luxe X? I currently shoot a Mini GS and am looking to upgrade... but what am I really gaining by spending $1000 and upwards? Am I just better off upgrading different components of my marker over purchasing a “high end” marker?
Except the fact that paint ball your paying $40 for like 250 rounds and airsoft you can get like 1500 for like $5-$10 just saying the only expensive part is sometimes the fields if they're really high maintenance and quality and your gun thats it plus its more realistic and can have the potential to teach you how to handle a firearm or learn to clear a room for like police or military training endless possibilities. But thats just my opinion you have yours and whatever sport or hobby you like stick with it and have fun.
Has to do with turbulent flow vs laminar flow and boundary layer around the ball. Easiest explanation is that’s why golf balls are dimpled and not smooth spheres. Google why golf balls have dimples. Pretty interesting!
Quick question. I noticed a lot of online paintball stores are sold out of a lot of inventory. Do you think this is covid related or a resurgence of interest in the sport or both?
I saw your vid in my recommended and now I’m here but why did paintball ruin your life? I’m 13 and love paintball so much I can’t wait to get on the feild

Any of them. Ninja makes the best. First strike are probably second best. All the rest are exactly the same cheap chinese bottles and regulators that are rebranded for each brand.
I got a question for anyone who can help. I’m a fairly new player I’m playing out on Long Island New York. The problem is I’m not rich.. every field is FOP and paint is almost always 80-90$ a case so for 2000 balls. Plus admission which is around 40$ even if I try to conserve paint after about 7-8 hours of playing and getting a lot of games in I go through about a case. So if I play 1 day a week it’s about 130$ which seems like a awful lot compared to other places ?
that seems to be about average in the US. Lots of fields offer discounts on paint or no entry fee to their refs so if you don't currently work on weekends that would help cover the cost of playing.
I’m 36yrs old and got introduce to paintball about 1 year ago. Any advice ?? Idk if maybe I’m too old to play also is it weird if i show up by my self to play? The coworker who introduce me to the sport cant come out and play often cause of the his wife lol.
No one is ever too old to play paintball. I've seen grandfathers going against grandsons. Just have fun playing paintball. I think that's the most important part of playing.

2:45 the infinity won
I love your vlog name. I can completely relate.
dang bro i feel lucky now i get HK Supreme for 33 dollars a case
Yeah, once you’re in the tourney scene getting good paint cheap isn’t hard. I usually shoot HK Supreme or Valken Redemption for 30 a case.
I have to pay 60 for valken field paint
Yes, there is a questioned missed. Why do those mentioned criteria make the pro nearly double as expensive? Is the fill so much more costly? Is a thicker shell more costly than a thiner one? Etc...
I’ve been wondering what’s the difference between cheap an expensive thks very much
Which one would be better mini gs or dye rize czr? Please help I am undecided on which one to buy?!!
Getting back into the sport after a 15 year hiatus. I'd shoot 1-2 cases of hellfire every practice. Expensive, yes. But makes a night/day difference.
It's kind of sad that many fields use the cheap stuff for rental guns (granted, those guns chop the real brittle stuff). With newer players who don't know what to expect, getting bounced over and over by hard paint is a good way to make them not want to come back.
I will like to see the difference between CS2 vs cheap paintballs?
That shirt 🔥 🔥
Could you do similar tests against other brands like Empire, HK army, etc. who have both cheap & expensive paints?
It could but the results wouldn't be much different from this video.
@@PaintballRuinedMyLife I am more curious to see which brands have good quality cheap paint compared to their expensive.
Valken and HK probably.
hi I am a new player gone a few times with rentals and want to go a step up can you do a review on the Spyder Fenix please saw it at my local store and wanted some more info
Before purchasing a paintball marker I highly suggest to get a mask firstif you haven't done so. Any mask on $60 to $100 for beginner or budget is a great start. I would suggest to check out Tippman Cronus. I hope this help.
Get a Tippman cronus
This is ancient by today's standards. Spyders aren't relevant anymore, get an older used planet eclipse geo or ego, or an axe, or a gmek
And do not get a Tippmann Cronus lol
I use Meteor, and Elixir from Think Big Paintball
Does anyone know what happened to All-Star paintballs? It was my favorite paint 10-15 years ago.
Nothing made today compares to the paint made 10-15 years ago. The industry doesn’t care about making good paint anymore.
Yup rebranded and reformulated and smaller
Do you have a 'go-to' or preferred brand when you're playing?
My .02
No.
Upgraded from a shocker xls to a cs2, best purchase I have made the gun is incredible!
Quick fact, and I've done this before. Cool your paint a little bit before using it. This makes the paintball a little bit more brittle.
Bro you broke a chunk off that rock with the infinity.
I use graffiti in my markers.but my field uses GI 5 star and redemption pro with the 98s
I only use cheap stuff, but I also shoot a lot as a supportive role
My home field in Washington doesn't allow Valken infinity paint because there “too hard” and hurt.
One has to be a fluid mechanics expert to e plain why 3year old dimpled paint flew on target as multiple fresh practice paint was inconsistent.
Has to do with turbulent flow vs laminar flow and boundary layer around the ball. Easiest explanation is that’s why golf balls are dimpled and not smooth spheres. Google why golf balls have dimples. Pretty interesting!
When all your local pb store sells is gi one star :( feelsbad
Here in new Zealand I use elixer or meteor
Quick question. I noticed a lot of online paintball stores are sold out of a lot of inventory. Do you think this is covid related or a resurgence of interest in the sport or both?
It's the stimulus check, additional unemployment and lack of manufacturing. Sales have already started to level off.
@@PaintballRuinedMyLife that is interesting. It's unfortunate that sales started to level off already though. Thanks for the quick reply
I saw your vid in my recommended and now I’m here but why did paintball ruin your life? I’m 13 and love paintball so much I can’t wait to get on the feild
Anyone remember all star paint? Empire really knew what they were doing. Not anymore with their evil paint shells
How to buy the paint ball gun
The difference is the cheap ones are cheaper. They should both be of the same quality if the manufacturer knows what they are doing. They all come off pharma grade soft gel encapsulation machines.
Now every field makes you use "field paint only". white box special at $60 a case
5:28 that voice crack tho lol
That's not a voice crack and you like 7 seconds off
I hope this is not a crazy questions still waiting on the geo 4 review
Thats not a question at all
Draxxus hellfire was the best paint I ever shot.
Never knew j was buying professional paintballs
Is that at capital edge?
What’s your opinion on Airsoft
How many supreme hats do you have 🤣
APX balls are amazing
I miss chronic OG stuff
Interesting good vid👍🏼
I use the hk army lvl 3 68 one
Paint in general is expensive
Not compare in the early 2000's. Practice paint could be $80 per case while tournament could be at $150.
The Supplier this is accurate we used to shoot orange evil which was 120 a case from a friend. Not the same as empire evil today I think it was draxxus or diablo. Maybe empire bought them not sure
.10 per shot in the 80"s
Renember all you new players, if you use tipmans or other mechanics, you cant use that hi end paint, it would brake in marker. Nice vid like usual
Emek MG100 says hi =) it will most likely to break in the mag tho vs the marker.
@@ShinkiZer0 so i herd :)
My former EMEK could handle GI 5 Stars without any issues.
Guess it‘s the only marker in the
New player here looking into this topic. Thanks for the heads up.. What would you recommend?
@@benjaminsolis4647 You didnt say what marker You are using. Not realy sure how paintballs market is there in US, here in Poland on our field for mechanics players we sell tomahawk Eco, but they are to hard lately, tomahawk classic are great. Not breaking in guns, but breaks on target. You can basicly use any of those low end paint. Its great if you have ocasion, to try few and find whats best for You. Welcome to PB comunity and have fun
What is a good air tank for the mini gs
Any of them. Ninja makes the best. First strike are probably second best. All the rest are exactly the same cheap chinese bottles and regulators that are rebranded for each brand.
Is d3fy level 1 good for the mini gs
Yes
Try to see if they have memberships in your area. Luckily at my home field I purchase membership yearly or monthly. Hope this help.
Paintballing is easily always a $100 day give or take
Expensive tournament balls fly straight, the others don’t. Pretty fucking simple.
I’m 36yrs old and got introduce to paintball about 1 year ago. Any advice ?? Idk if maybe I’m too old to play also is it weird if i show up by my self to play? The coworker who introduce me to the sport cant come out and play often cause of the his wife lol.
If you're to old so am I 😀. I know it's werid, I started playing by myself and just started seeing the same people and started hanging out with them.
No one is ever too old to play paintball. I've seen grandfathers going against grandsons. Just have fun playing paintball. I think that's the most important part of playing.
Not too old, send it
All paint r decent until I hit give 2 to 3 star
Can you try playing airsoft at some point? I just wanna see how well paintball translates
