    • @MadCheshireHat
      @MadCheshireHat 5 лет назад +188

      Not necessarily. I personally wouldn't say "I've never bullied anyone" because, to my memory, I haven't, but to someone else, they may think so. When I was a pre-teen, I had a lot of mental and emotional problems and wasn't always nice. If I'd hurt someone's feelings unintentionally a few times, that person might consider themselves bullied. Or if a joke goes too far. Things like that. People hurt each other unintentionally all the time, but does that make everyone a bully? No. But some may view things differently. Misunderstandings can occur. I don't remember every single incident situation, or conversation in my life, so it's entirely possible I did or said things that upset someone without knowing it. Therefore, I wouldn't outright deny it without knowing more info/details, like of a particular incident.

      I have only heard rumors about bullying (or hazing) in the Korean military, and I cannot say for certain that this happens across the board. But I think it is a contributing factor to why some individuals go to extreme lengths to opt out of mandatory service.

    I was bullied in high school, and at the time, it was not taken seriously. A lot of people didn't really understand even if majority of the 'bullying' doesn't always result to physical, it is how much of the verbal, emotional, and mental abuse can stick and follow you all through your life. I know because I deal with it everyday. However I am fortunate enough that I channel it through therapeutic means like painting, writing, and walking. There was one former bully who had apologized me to me when I met up with her once, all because now HER OWN DAUGHTER is also being bullied and wanted to know how she could deal with it and how I dealt with it when I was being bullied. I feel sorry for the daughter, but I DO NOT FEEL SORRY FOR MY FORMER BULLY.
    So do I think Hyolyn is a bully? I think so. The victim clearly recounted a lot of the incidents that she carries to this day, which Hyolyn would say she did not 'remember' because of the timeframe. But usually a former bully would deny their 'participation' or their involvement to the incident/s, because they would say the following reasons:
    1. We were just kids back then. (doesn't matter if they were kids if they did that, the fact that kids inflict physical and psychological pain to other kids is something concerning to begin with.)
    2. It was a long time ago, I don't remember doing that. (bullshit, unless one disassociated and is not aware of him/herself, they do remember. They just deny it.)
    3. I don't even know who this person is. (Then why did you pick this person? They MUST REMEMBER THE REASON why they just picked this person to inflict their abuse to. They must be SICK TO THE HEAD if they just picked this person for absolute little to NO REASON.)
    Typical excuses.
    But eventually they will own up to it, if their reputation is at line.
    So I think calling out people who were bullies back then is something I SUPPORT. Because they have to be held accountable to their actions back then and to give the victims a sense of justice or at least closure to the burden they carried from school all the way to adulthood.

      I agree. I experienced a similar bullying situation. It can affect you so much mentally that it is possible for you to carry it throughout your lifetime. It’s not always easy to forget. I support as well. I believe an apology would be enough to end a situation like this, that way the bully owns up to what they did and there would be some closure for the one who got bullied.

      Even though I agree with your statement. But what does the victim achieve by doing this??? Obviously, she wants more than just an apology. Why else would she only chase this up after 15 years??? uhmm for "an apology", she says... yeah right... Im not saying bullying should be justified or ignored, but to ruin someone's career??? An eye for an eye? Then how does that make the victim any better than the bully?
      It is this continuous cycle of hate and people being f*cking nosy that makes Korea the most dramatic country.

    • @papermoonchild
      @papermoonchild 5 лет назад +17

      @@TheRealBZ Hello. I do not have the answer what is generally right or generally wrong. But what I stated above is what I personally think/feel is right in a general circumstance. For the victim, it is to achieve justice and a sense of closure. I know it did for me when one of my former bullies reached out and apologized. We are not friends, but at least I can breathe easier, and my headspace lighter.
      And with justice, it is being called out to the actions that inflict physical or psychological pain to others that has lasting effects. It doesn't matter when it would be called out, it had to be. But you are right in how wrong the victim did it. To air it in a public platform for all to see, and to drag the other party's name/reputation/career, when it can be settled privately with no casualty. Perhaps that is where the line between being civil to being brusque blurs. That's where I believe the victim kinda stepped out of line.
      However, the difference in the case of Hyolyn is that she is on the higher tier of society, therefore she is seen more on a broader view and her actions monitored in a microscopic level. We wouldn't know exactly what happened between closed doors, or if there were any settlement that happened. But at least in their court, it was already settled. And maybe that is the end of it (I hope.). But it certainly created awareness, bullying was and will never be ok. But it certainly won't be the last time we will hear of it.

      bgbbff I mean, there’s really not much to tell. I realized that Korean bullying was really more verbal. I find verbal abuse worse in my opinion. I think it’s more toxic, and leads to a side effect like cancer... Just eating you alive. When I first arrived, 90% were really nice to me. I was in Seoul at first, then Daegu. Daegu was a little different. There were the occasional “cool kids”, but I wasn’t impressed. They called me “교포” and “양놈”, but I really wasn’t phased by it. I grew up in LA, so I was used to kids being in group fades (fights), and shootouts. The “cool kids” seemed really cringe to me compared to US “cool kids” in highschool. They’d just spark up a cigarette thinking it’s badass, and just cuss. Not really much of a show. So I couldn’t help but laugh when they tried to target me, or clown me. That eventually pissed them off, and they kinda got physical...? Not to be rude to them, but the “bullies” I experienced can not fight. They are just toxic. I took on 4 guys alone and won. I bet their long winter coats that just dragged them down did not help. But yeah. That’s the main premise of it. Other than that, I didn’t really witness anyone trying to test me or anything. I got along with Korean kids fine. They’re hella nice.

They think it's normal to have fight within siblings. I attempted countless of run away from home cause I though no one love me and care about me. And if I go maybe they will be more happy without me. At one time I just so traumatise with "man" and I just hate them so much for disturbing my life. I even avoid to have conversation with male's classmate. My childhood was very depressive moment for me. I think as a child, It really influence them to grow up as a person. Even though I am a grown up women now, I couldn't escape from the trust issue to all man near me. I look very happy from the outside but I don't let them close to my heart cause I'm truly afraid they will hurt me in any ways. Because of my brother was an asshole in the past, I grew up to be very independent and some time I thought that maybe I don't need any man in my life to survive. Luckily I don't fucked up my life because of him cause I think it's not worthy and the only way to make him piss off to show that I'm better than him. I don't hate my own brother and I forgive him for that cause he changed a lot since my dad passed away and take care of my family more than anyone else. But still, it's impossible to forget about everything he had done to me. Bullies might be small issue within family but actually it really shapes their personality and so on as a person. If you make something wrong to someone, you should apologise for making them suffering for their whole life. That could save someone from going thru hell. If you see someone get bullies, stands for them. Cause that the only way to keep them stronger. If I don't have my supportive foster parents and my childhood friends, I might not be who I am today. So I am from the United States. And I will be honest, in High School I was a bully because I was too concieted about being the football captain. After a leg injury I recieved, I went through a time of humbleness. My head cooled down and I stopped looking down at others, and learn to help and accept them. Now I am an adult with a job and recently a friend of mine described me as a "humble person". I told him about my past and he told me, "it doesn't matter who your were but who you are at this very moment". I can't really judge Hyolyn for who she was in the past and I am sure she regrets this part of her life even if it might be true. But people change and learn. As for the victim, why now after 15 years does she bring this up in public? I dont know. The victim wants a sincere apology but on the internet through DM? A sincere apology is through person. Surely after 15 years she can give Hyolyn a chance. Still this seems too opportunist to me.

    The accuser's evidence is pretty insubstantial. Pictures of the graduation album don't prove anything. The texts only show one side of the conversation. Hyolyn wanted to talk in person, but the accuser wanted everything to be done via DMs, that seemed like a red flag to me. If you really wanted an apology, it would be much more satisfying to have it done in person, not through a screen. Sure, Hyolyn saying she doesn't remember what happened 15 years ago is a weak defense, but who remembers everything from 15 years ago? Memories can change over time and are especially changed due to our perception of things, how we thought 15 years ago is different from now. Both might remember different versions of the events. If Hyolyn did do those things I will be disappointed in her. Bullying is harmful and needs to be stopped. Schools need to take it more serious as it can cause serious damage to the student's self-esteem, confidence, and their lives.

      There had have been witnesses and likely other victims. To strengthen and validate her case, she could've found or tried to find others willing to come forward as a united front. If no one wanted to, she could have at least mentioned that and not made it all about her and her perspective, which isn't very credible alone.
      I think assuming the girl's personality doesn't make sense and, honestly, is rather pointless.
      So, if she didn't want to meet with Hyolyn and get an apology in person, what did she want then? I thought she was the one who wanted to meet, also, but maybe I'm mistaken. Either way, I think being "afraid" of meeting the person who bullied her 15 years ago is a very poor argument/defense because she went way out of her way to get Hyolyn's attention; I can't believe that she'd do so if she was so scared of confronting her. The whole purpose of her actions was to confront and "expose" Hyolyn, so it doesn't make much sense to /not/ want to meet her. I feel that if you're going to go through so much trouble of proving yourself and trying to contact a celebrity, you're probably going to want more than a written apology, but maybe not--maybe that's all she wanted. I don't know.
      However, I suppose I could understand if she chickened out last minute. Still, I don't think that's any excuse for not showing up after getting what you wanted/were looking for.
      Also, I don't think they would've met like, in the middle of a crowded area. I'm sure there are places where they could've met for privacy.

That being said, the fact that these people are being punished for what they did as immature children is absolutely ridiculous. I was bullied as a child and I learned to grow from it. I took those experiences and made sure to become a better person than those who bullied me. The fact that these people can't seem to move on from what happened to them as children seems like they have personal issues they need to work on themselves, not drag others down with them. Plus I have a question for the victims of bullying, has it never occurred to you to change schools or something. Like I see it in the kdramas a student would get relentlessly bullied, but come to school every day and not think to switch schools or tell their parents. Maybe it’s different in the states but we tell our parents everything.

    • @MadCheshireHat
      @MadCheshireHat 5 лет назад +1

      I did. My mom and I got so fed up with the BS at my school that went on for a few years that I went back to home school since the principal didn't care, and in fact suggested that picking on me was a way to "get to know me." I remember sitting there, only 13 years old, stunned at such a preposterous idea. If you want to get to know someone, you ask them questions, talk to them. Not humiliate them. Duh. Even a socially inept introvert like me knows that much. To have a grown man tell me it's all friendly was ridiculous. I wasn't bullied like it's portrayed in fiction, but all the head games and ridiculousness still took a toll on me, especially as an ADHD, Bipolar introvert struggling with her own issues.
      Anyway... Not everyone can switch schools. Some areas don't have a lot of options, especially rural areas. You'd need to have parental support to do so, and unfortunately, not all "parents" are willing to provide that.

      Are you seriously victim blaming? In Korea, parents puts their kids into the best hs that they can find and afford cause good hs = good college = good job. So if a child talk to parents about wanting to move schools because of bullying, then parents might get real angry and tell them to just take it cause they sacrificed lot to put them into this nice ass school which will apparently be good for their future.

    There are bully here in the USA for sure. Asian and blacks, and poor kids get bully by the rich kids or the more popular kids. But there are strength in numbers... stand together and crush them.. I was never bullied but I would not sit by and watch it happen ether... I am mixed race, so being mix race you can be bullied from both side. Not black enough or you are not white, so they don't want to be friends with you. But I had family. A big family. 11 kids in all. 7 boys and 4 girls. So we never got picked on. It feels way better to help those who can not protect themselves... Thank you for all the great videos you post. I will keep watching and hope to visit 1 days soon. I would love to see a video on mix kids growing up in Korea... When I visit I plan on trying to help mix Korean kids that have been left by their parents because of them being mix.. Personally, I don't believe it, but this situation sounds really sketchy. I myself can barely remember what happened to me 5 years ago, so forgetting about something that happened 15 years ago isn't shocking. As someone who has been bullied, I do remember when and how it happened, but the details become blurred as years pass and I start to forget who was responsible. Look, if Hyolyn really bullied the girl, she should just apologize and if not, the girl in question should apologize. Hell, who's to say this girl is just a jealous person who wants to get back at her for having something she never got or maybe Hyolyn used to be a friend of hers and she let her down someway. Until there's more evidence, I'm siding with Hyolyn. No one should have their careers destroyed over rumors. We have more than enough of that here in the US.

Never she teached me basic stuff like math of 244 + 236 = ? cause she wanted to care for her very iintelligent children who are fast at learning. Whenever i wanted help, she screeched at me.
    And as i regonized a ship that is NOT Titanic, she said i was wrong. If she was a male teacher, he would imediately lose his job!
    The boys in my school spread some mean words but they never touched me. Toxic femininity is real and will follow my life forever! They don't only pull your hair or scratch you, they also kick and destroy your things! And if it's not enough, they manipulate(woman are masters in manipulating and girls learn this by themselfs at a very your age) people so they can tell, i, the crying, buised girl sitting on the ground with messy hair, is the predator. And whenever they didn't touch me, thes brooke me mentally. The adults never believed me, besides my parents. They believed me from the beginning, cause our neighbors from that time in the old apartement, also bullied me. They also where girls.
    My female teacher didn't want to have my 4 year younger sister, cause she assumed she is also problematic. My sister got a very awesome male teacher with an high patience and understanding. My sister was at her time the top student and since then, my toxic female teacher tried to be nice around me, whenever she saw me.
