I’m one of the few people in the hobby who builds the National Treasures base card sets. 100 cards, all relevant players, quality card stock, base set numbered to /99 with only a handful of parallel sets, clean design. The most recent few years have disappointing photos and designs but some of the earlier sets are amazing. Also, the base Exquisite sets from 2003-2009 are good as well.
Great calls. I can see the value and collectibility of those sets. I actually thought about collecting each base card from national treasures of LeBron James and Giannis 👍 Thanks for the comment! Good luck with your sets
Good luck on your submission! I sent some 89 topps traded baseball cards that I pulled out of sets for this special. Hoping for the best 🙏🏼 I can’t wait to see your reveal video on these cards. Thanks for sharing!
Good luck on your 89 traded order! 🤞 Let me know how you do. I’m going through my 1988 fleer bball cards right now, I’m even more excited to get them graded 😃
It was a ton of work, but fun work! And luckily I had already gone through a lot of it 10 years ago, but PSA standards have changed since then 😬 Thanks Nick! 🤙
Bro, you’re speaking my language. Great video! First of all I totally agree with you on all the inserts and different type of cards. I’m 47 and opened dozens of 86, 87, 88 fleer boxes as a kid and fell in love. I quit collecting around 96ish. I got sick of trying to figure how a player could have 8 different rookie cards and 3 special inserts. I sold a lot of my collection over the years but kept a great amount. I quit for that exact reason about too many different brands and inserts. This video reminds me of why I collect what I collect. I have a full graded 86 fleer, 87 and 88 sets all 8’s or higher. With thousands of commons lying around. Not to long ago I went through about a thousand 87 fleer to submit and you are right, it’s brutal! The printing dots, wax, centering, discoloration is no joke. I spent hours picking cards and still came up short with many cards submitted to PSA. What’s funny is that Robert Parrish you showed I got a PSA 10. I didn’t know about that PSA special going on, I have tons of 87 and 88 commons I need to look over to possibly submit. But to your original thought, I think if the companies got back to simplicity it would be great for the hobby! Love the video! I started a RUclips just to show my sets for fun. I’m constantly upgrading the cards in my sets, but if you wanna check out my videos. I did a PSA reveal video on 87 fleer not too long ago. I got 7’s on cards I thought were minimum 8’s. PSA does grade these older fleer difficult. Sorry to ramble. Anyway, new subscriber!
Love your comment 🤙 Thanks for subscribing, and the support. Great to hear from someone who also has an affinity for these fleer sets. I just subscribed to your channel, and can’t wait to watch your 87 psa reveal 👍 I really hope I get a grader familiar with this set. Have a great night! LV
You basically described Stadium Club, which is why it is my favorite set. Outside of veterans, it usually has a manageable checklist, not a ton of parallels, and amazing imagery
Awesome to hear! You made me want to check out the stadium club sets. I remember they did always have incredible images used in the 90’s 👌 Thanks for watching! LV
If you’re up for a challenge, love to see you do a breakdown on 1971 Topps baseball. Very tough grade, some say it’s the hardest set to gem. But you know I love a good chase, I’d like to see you break down some 1971s for a video
Oh those 71 black borders are so tough. I agree with ya…probably one of the most condition sensitive sets out there. Unfortunately I just don’t have enough of those cards or particular knowledge to break down the set. I would need to open fresh packs of it too which I can’t afford 🤪 Thanks for watching! LV
I love 1987 Fleer basketball such an iconic set including the 1986 Fleer basketball, id love to have the complete set prolly won't get the Jordan RC but I'll get a reprint
I did load up on those stickers too 👍 1988 seemed to be the most condition sensitive. 86 and 88 have wax stains, 87 doesn’t. 1988 has the worst front centering issues and back corner/edge wear. 1987 has the worst print defects and tilt centering issues. They’re always off center top to bottom. The 1986 are the easiest to grade of them. Normal centering issues on that year but overall easier cuz of the lighter color corners and edges. Hope that helps a bit, and thanks for watching! LV
Awesome breakdown of this set! I’ve been building all of the 4 80s fleer sets and it just doesn’t get old taking one off the checklist! Seeing those massive stacks you have almost made me fall on the floor 😂😂. I’ll be interested to see your results . How long do you think it will take for psa to grade this particular stack?
I’m thinking it will take PSA 45 days to grade my stack of 87’s :) I’m currently going through my 1988’s and I didn’t realize have 3x more than my 87’s 😳 Look for a video breakdown of that soon 🤙 I’m stoked you’re building those sets! You building them raw or graded?
@ 88-89s are nice too! I’m slowly going for Psa 8s of the 86-87 set. I was gonna go with just the HOF RC’s graded and the rest raw but saw a few dealers at the Natioal with Graded sets and fell in love with that idea. 😫😂 87-88 I’m going raw dog, but will have the MJ graded. Did you keep any MJs?
@@macwaxxstacks Unfortunately I sold all my Jordans :( I was selling psa 9's for $100 bucks in early 2010's ugh, wish I would have held some. Hit me up on instagram with your list of cards you need to complete your 1987 fleer set, and I'll try and hook ya up. Hope you had a good thanksgiving! LV
Speaking of collecting sets. What modern sets are you collecting for the future? I’ve been stashing away any and all donruss/ optic 2017 football. 😂 no mahomes in my collection yet tho 😂
Great design choice with the 2017 optic football 👌 The most modern set I think I’ll probably start up is the 2012 silver prizm basketball. But I’d love to start a football set…one just hasn’t caught my eye quite yet.
I am about to submit an order and I have a 1984 Fleer Don Mattingly RC that I was gonna submit hoping for a 9, but after seeing this video I may not because mine has the “smoky edges.” I thought that was just how the card was printed but maybe not. Does that apply to the 1984 fleet set? Great video as always!
Yep, it does apply to the 84 fleer baseball set. I too have seen the Smokey edges on that set unfortunately :( If you open a fresh pack from that set, you will see all the edges are perfect white 👍
Kind of a weird thing to comment on a RUclips video but, I have a 576 card 1977 Star Wars lot and I know at least some are gradable (NM maybe mint) including a c3po corrected card. And was wondering, being that you are literally the biggest raw card to graded card guy I’ve ever seen, would have any interest?
Thanks for thinking to ask me 🤙 Unfortunately I just don’t have a passion for that particular set, so I’ll hold off. Thanks though. I showed my son the C-3PO error card the other day and he got a good laugh 😂
That doesn’t work. If they limited the parallel and inserts they have to severely limit print run and each box would be crazy expensive. There’s legitimate reasons for the huge increase in parallels
Yeah a good example is this years Topps Gilded Chrome. The base cards are /99 so small print run and I think a box is $800-$900. But that’s not to say the idea is correct but would need to expand a bit more. But they need to get rid of all the double up on color refractors; Blue, Blue Wave, Blue Lava, Blue Speckle etc etc. I liked the 2010-13ish refractor levels back in the day.

Hey LV, one of the coolest vids you've made yet, cheers!
That means a lot 🙌 thanks for saying that! Happy collecting and happy holidays :) LV

You make set building look soooooo easy! nice work!
Hopefully! 🤞 Depends on the grades I get 😅
Thanks for the comment and watching! LV
Well done on the video for 1) highlighting a cool set and 2) sharing the normal flaws, super fun video!
I appreciate that! 🤙 I’m going to be doing the same thing for the 1988 fleer basketball set. Look for that video in a few weeks :)
Good luck on the grades!
Thanks! I appreciate that…I’m gonna need luck with 80’s stuff 😬🤞
Can’t wait to see the results
Me too! I’m shipping them off to PSA today 🤞
I’m nervous…I hope I get a grader that understands this set
Dang man, that must have been a lot of work to go through all of those... but super fun! Looking forward to seeing the results 🙌
It was a ton of work, but fun work! And luckily I had already gone through a lot of it 10 years ago, but PSA standards have changed since then 😬 Thanks Nick! 🤙
Cool stuff. The prices on some of those 9s are crazy. Good luck!
So crazy…and it was nice searching/prepping for just 9’s instead of finding perfect 10’s. For once I hope I get the 9 happy grader 🤞

Grwat video. I just sent in my 80-90's on the special also. We will see. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.
Good luck on your 80’s and 90’s order 🤞 Let me know how you do. And thank you! Happy Thanksgiving to you too

You may get the Jordan someday…don’t count that out :) 🙌 Such cool sets. Thanks for watching my vid!
Fun video. I remember hearing a nylon stocking can get the wax off the backs of cards.
They do 🙌 But unfortunately not on the back of these 87 fleers :( Nylons do work on the backs of the sticker cards though of the 86-88 fleer sets 👍
Any thoughts on the '86/'87/'88 stickers? Did you load up on those raw as well? I'd love your pre grade tips on those as well.

I sent an order off last week and kept reminding myself mint 9s were probably the ceiling.
Sadly you’re probably right 😅 I’m worried what grader I’m going to get….i really hope they understand 80’s basketball 🤞
Couldnt agree more! The number of parallels and SP are out of control…de-valuing the products
Definitely…way too outta control. I just want one basic, well thought out set 🤞
I am about to submit an order and I have a 1984 Fleer Don Mattingly RC that I was gonna submit hoping for a 9, but after seeing this video I may not because mine has the “smoky edges.” I thought that was just how the card was printed but maybe not. A base set only would kill that product before it even hit the shelves which is unfortunate

@ haha thanks for responding though man. Love the videos, they really are informational and fun to watch
That doesn’t work. If they limited the parallel and inserts they have to severely limit print run and each box would be crazy expensive. There’s legitimate reasons for the huge increase in parallels
The boxes are already crazy expensive 🤣
But I understand what you’re saying 🤙
@ yes! Now imagine they decrease the print run of each product by 75% or whatever to accommodate the lack of parallels, it would be madness
Yeah a good example is this years Topps Gilded Chrome. The base cards are /99 so small print run and I think a box is $800-$900.
