Great stuff Ty I remember the early days of eBay very fondly. I would swoop auctions in the middle of the night and flip all the cards at local shows where most of the sellers didn't have anything like I was showing up with. I was doubling my money selling to dealers at shows out of my trunk. If I set up a table and spent a few more hours it was even better. They just had no idea what Ebay was. It was the ultimate secret weapon for a while there.

Great points!! When I first started selling I'd get a buyer right way and I'd deny the sale over 5 or 10$. I know now that I need to just keep it moving and I've had repeat customers now..

Thanks for your help (as well as others)over the last 18 months. I started with my son as a side hustle to sell our not PC Cards and in May of 2024 I sold my financial services company to my employers at 47 YO and now do this full time with 30-35k a month (currently) in monthly revenue, still got a ton to learn (and grow) but I’ve never been happier with my career.

Wow...love your comment! I was a Financial Advisor for 30-years...sold my block of business in October of 2024. My passion has always been reselling (Antiques/Vintage). Family thinks I'm insane...income is slowly becoming more steady...scared to death....but, I love it. I was soooooo burned-out being an Advisor...compliance, meetings, endless emails, chasing clients, etc., etc., was destroying me as a human. Do you sell just cards?

Great video! I can relate to some of this as a working artist as well, especially the narrowing down and focusing on repeat customers.
I would be interested to see you do a video about how you got comfortable talking in front of a camera? Were you a natural when you started? Did you have to force yourself to do it? How did you practice and was there a reason you decided to start using a camera to film yourself, etc.
I’d love to make more videos, but I find my struggle being that i feel overwhelmed by the time of it, unsure of the return, and awkward in front of the camera.
    Thanks for great content Ty!

First time I come across your channel. You have great advice on this video. Not to mention, you explain things in a way that's easy to understand and it shows that you deeply care about your youtube audience sharing your tips. I have a ton of old baseball cards (1987-1991ish) that I've been looking on ebay how much they have sold for, and I gotta say they aren't worth more than a couple of bucks each at most for the majority of them. They are mainly in the Junk Wax era. Good players, rookie hall of famers, but over produced. I just might list them all as a buy it now for dirt cheap or just put them up for auction with out a reserve. I need to make room in my house and I'm getting rid of a lot of things. Subscribed!

Ty, you perfectly explained ultra modern cards and how it became a huge gamble. Once they devalued the base card and made buying packs all about getting that huge hit, it changed the hobby. It also changed the collector into a gambler.
My nephew and all his friends (they are in their 20’s) jumped into the hobby during Covid. They were ripping packs like going to the Casino in hopes of that big hit that they could sell for thousands of dollars (maybe more). Once it didn’t happen, they all exited the hobby. This mentality created ZERO new collectors and that’s why ultra modern cards stink. When base cards still mattered in a pack, you would collect them. When packs became all about the huge hit or snake eyes, it created a hobby of worthless cards to them. Great video!

I'm very focused on your principle of "Sell What's Selling" which includes finding your niche. I've been selling casually for maybe 18 months on eBay and at card shows. I am primarily a baseball guy, football secondarily and a little basketball. In reality, I know baseball really well, I am the co-owner of a baseball website and co-host of a podcast. I am starting to think I have been too worried about providing variety and should be zoning in on my baseball knowledge for the purposes of cards. I already track prospects, follow all the rookies and cover some of the top teams and stars in the game. My son is a huge Atlanta Braves fan and collector. We've been gravitating towards grading, as well as focusing on Bowman Chrome and Topps Chrome since they seem to have the best upside. Based on your advice, I think we'll continue down this path.

Pay those taxes..............just a reminder if your selling transactions in 2024 total 5k or more via venmo PayPal cashapp etc... they by law will be sending to you and the IRS 1099.s so you can pay income tax, in 2025 the amount goes to $2,500 and 2026 and beyond its just $600 in transactions that will cause 1099.s to be sent, it's imperative you save receipts for a card you buy and then sell, no receipt? Then full sale price is considered income, this will tank the card shows sellers won't want to deal with receipts and non cash transactions,

Millenials have to feel "special," therefor, 55 different one of ones for each player every year, which means 275 red cards to /5, 550 to /10... and here's where it starts getting crazy, 1,375 cards to "25", 2,750 to "50", 5,445 to /99 ;)
