For future reference: Instead of tapping on the depth gauge to make individual deep marks, you can drag it along the work piece to engrave a longer straight line. It's not a big tip, but will save a few minutes. Good build! Cheers!
And I complain that I don't have a nice enough router table and table saw. Think I'll just crawl back in my hole now.... Seriously, your patience is beyond imagination.
Hahaa. That was the aim of the video. Hopefully people can see that you don't need heavy tools and machinery. It can all be done by hand. Like you said the only thing you will need is the patience
Prior to chiseling the spear groove, would it be beneficial to do a center Relief cut, so as to not expand/stress the outer layers? Or relief cut with a slow burn isopropyl and then groove/chisel/cove shape
That seems like a good idea. I kind of made it up as I went along so it's totally up to you on how you do it. I guess thats the beauty of making one yourself. Sorry for the very slow reply. I hope your build goes well.
Great tutorial!! i enjoyed it. A couple of questions. How do you determine the widht and thickness? Because if you do it too narrow or too thin, the pressure of the bands will somehow break / deform the speargun. On the other hand, if you do it wider and thicker than needed it'll be difficult to manage once underwater. I'll start working on a 95 cms, 2" wide and 2.5" thick, but i'm guessing on the width and thickness. Is there any formula or way to determine? reckon has to do with the kind of wood and the rubbers. Thanks!
Hello! I"m completely honest, I made the whole thing up as I went. But thats the beauty of it as there isn't another speargun in the world like the one you make yourself, so its quite special. I ensured that I used a very strong piece of wood that would bend or warp under pressure. (Iroko is the wood i used). Let me know how you got on, again i'm sorry for the slow reply.
I'll get back to you on this one. I'm not currently at home and I don't know it off the top of my head as I made it all up on the spot. Give me a couple of days 👍
Hello. The wood a sourced from a local workshop, he had some off cuts that he was willing to give me. The reel was taken from an old speargun. Rubbers, line and spear purchased from spearfishing UK. The trigger mech, trigger guard and line loop was purchased on Ali Express, you will have to hunt around for someone willing to ship only 1 item, but they do exist. I hope that helps
Thank you very much! I brought them on a website called Ali Express but you will have to bulk buy them in order to get one. I have one mech left but its different to the one i used in my video.
@@adayman4051 can u send me the link or plans of the trigger mech u made, also what shaft did u use with it, I’m having a very very hard time pls help.
Im sorry to bother you again, but i have a few questions that you may be able to answer... How long, wide and tall is your muzzle? Because i want to make a 75cm long muzzle and i dont know what width does it need to be because i have a feeling when i strecth the rubbers the gun is just gonna collapse and break in half lol, is the gun still alive today? Can you tell me how did you mix the epoxy how much did you put of what (in liters/mililiters please) and how long is the back of your gun?
great vid mate, just wondering what type of wood are you using for this gun?, this is only a idea as im not sure if it would be a bad thing if its going to be in the water, but i used to make quite alot of fireplace mantels out of solid oak and sometimes had to match the colour /grain in with the furniture in the room but i would use a blow torch and slightly burn the surface of the wood and when you oil / varnish it after, it brought all the grains of the wood out and looked really good, not sure if thats something you would like, just a idea :p, keep it up buddy
Its a good point, I dont actually state which type of wood it is until the very end of the videos. Its Iroko hardwood and it has an Epoxy coating to keep the water out. Again, its all a learning curve for me as its the first time ive done it. If i ever make something like this again, ill be sure to give it a go. Fingers crossed it holds up well in the summer. Keen to try it now.
Check out Alibaba for spearfishing parts. If not there are various other websites that supply parts. Type it in on google, it should be pretty easy to find

Thank you. The wood is Iroko but i can't remember the full length unfortunately

Great vid mate. What length, Width and depth of wood did you start with?
Can you explaine that trigger mechanism
What do you mean explain the trigger mech?
what kind of wood did you use? I'm interested in making one and i would like to know what kind of wood you used
I used Iroko. I picked up an off cut from my local workshop
I WOULD USE A ROUTER TO MAKE THE GROOVE
Yes, if i ever make one again i will do exactly this. Unfortunately i didn't have one at the time

Good stuff mate will be interesting to follow the progress. The clamp handle at 1:55 could get you on most haunted 😂
Many thanks! Haha Im glad you've said that, I didn't even realise 😂😂
Regarding buoyancy, what is the density of the wood you used...or what species of wood was used?
It was a hard wood called Iroko. I hope that helps
SpearFin, Oh yeah, perfect! Thanks, man.
Amazing results. Beautiful piece of work. Stunning
Thank you
Just came across your video, What kind of wood you used?
I used a wood called Iroko. I did forget to mention it in the video, my apologies
@@TheOutdoor_Guy it the family of the TEAK tree? We have plenty teak here.

hey bro can u tell me the length and width of the barrel lenth ,total gun length and the length of the rubber u used.... please

Instead of a chisel or router, you can use a table saw with a fence and several blades for a clean, straight, even depth cut.
Interesting, thanks for the idea. If i ever make another one ill be sure to use that.
Bonjour,
Pouvez-vous donner les dimensions du morceau de bois: longueur/largeur/hauteur?
Merci!
Where's the best place to get all the parts? Seriously keen to make a couple of guns! Cheers
